It has been out since Firelands, I imagine sales dropped so low they think that selling some in the next two weeks this way would increase sales more than just leaving it up. The pet is $10 but sells for ~5k ingame, so many people just buy it ingame anyway.

We buy the game, we buy many expansions, we paid subscribtion for years, they even dared to push an ingame shop down our throats, and now they do this shit? I regret pre-ordering WoD...

Cash grab announcements gracing the front page ftw, good thing they're still concentrating on the important things

"The pet will soon no longer be for sale, denying years of potential customers and new players joining the game from ever buying it. Obviously this is a cashgrab! Boo, greedy Blizzard!"

Blizzard can do only evil in the minds of some. It was an experiment into real life money pets, sellable by players ingame for gold. They are discontinuing it. They probably have their reasons.

However there is certainly not going to be as much money made on this pet in the next two weeks, as there would be on it, if they kept it in the store for 3 more years.

Are people going to rush to buy it in these two weeks? Certainly some will.
Is it advertised that it's going to become unavailable, to get people purchasing it. Yes it is.
Is it being taken down to get more profit from it that would be gained, keeping it in the store? I see no way that that could be true.

This pet was an experiment that proved that people would buy things for real money and sell them for gold. The problem was it is not nearly as effective as the people that buy game cards and the battle.net bucks and sell them for gold. The major issue with that market is the fear that they are using someones stolen credit card at Walmart.

Because we all know they're just sitting on a fully ready-to-go beta client, and are withholding it out of spite for the playerbase. /sigh /sarcasm
Probably taking it off the store because sales have slowed to a trickle, so get one final burst then keep it out of the store for a year or two. Not an uncommon sales practice at all.

I love how some people attack Blizzard for selling items for money AND for ceasing to sell items for money in the same post.

This attitude is pretty funny. Buy what you want and ignore the rest. Some people actually like the pets and in the past they have been sold to support charity. So cool your jets.

Then cancel your pre-order and leave the rest of us alone?

but why archive it instead of making it bop like the other pets, if not just to cause a sales rush?

First of all: marketing and development - Two seperate teams.

Second: Do you honestly think -not- writing this message would have rushed the beta activation?

    Wow..

Why not do a 100% charity promotion? Freaking greed.

League of Legends does this with legacy skins and then randomly make them available again for a few days at different times of the year. It is smart and creates demand.

Bought mine from the AH back in the day. He's still one of my favorite pets as he reminds me of a dear friend I lost several years ago.

This is very dumb. Just another moneygrab.

    False scarcity says what?

I can't wait for the excuses: "We're running out of them" "The store was full" "The numbers were too big so we have to squish the store".

I wonder why nobody mentioned that this pet is a requirement for "Crazy for Cats" achievement? Is it becoming Feat of Strength or something?
