New Feature Incoming - Undelete Character

In the upcoming pre-Warlords of Draenor content patch, we’re adding a new feature that allows players to undelete characters. But before you delete that character, there are a few limitations we want you to let you to know about first.

  • Characters under level 10 and Death Knights at level 55 are not eligible to be undeleted.
  • Characters between level 10 and level 29 will no longer recoverable after 90 days.
  • Characters between level 30 and 49 will no longer recoverable after 120 days.
  • All other characters level 50 and above are eligible to be undeleted at any time.
  • Please keep in mind you will only be able to use the undelete option once every 30 days.

Undeleting a character restores all of its enchantments, gems, and items fully intact. You’ll be able to get back into action right away, and your character won’t remember being deleted—we won’t tell, either.

Shhhh. . . .

Reclaiming Your Name: What About Flugur?
We’ll be holding deleted character names for a limited time, and the original creator can reclaim it for use on a new character during that time. If you create a new character with the same name as one of your deleted characters (let’s say Flugur), the new character must be renamed, transferred, or deleted to complete the restoration of the original Flugur.

But that name is reserved to your account for I think 30 days or something like that. So you would have to delete your char, wait one month or so, let your friend make a toon with the old name and then undelete your character. That would probably work but you'd have to wait a long time to play your char again.

Blizzard needs to invest it's time in areas of the game that needs attention.
This feature will free up a lot of GM tickets. Thus the game masters can take care of really serious matters.

Anyway, it's a cool feature to have. It will make things a lot easier for some people I suppose.
All the time they wasted on a feature that will be seldom used, and almost certainly nerfed when it gets abused, cost a raid tier.

Nice! I had a goblin with the spectral wyvern that I deleted back when mount weren't account bound... Maybe I can recover her =) Wouldn't trouble a GM for something like this, but if this stuff is "auto" I'll do it

Yes like, 'Soandso hit need in a random dungeon! They ninja'd a piece of gear from me please take the item away from them.'

It works currently without this new feature. Trust me i have done it a few times now and i know i am not the only one here who has. They will always restore a deleted toon if you make a ticket right away.

Loads of people do it without even noticing it. Like transferring the name of a main to an alt. Instead of paying for 2 name changes you pay for only 1. The GM's actually tell you delete your main then pay for a name change on alt. Then they restore main and because your alt now has the name you change it for free.. 1 name change for price of 2 recommended technique from a GM.

Nothing big as I see it. This feature will simply replace the need to send in a ticket asking to restore characters.
Which is good, as GM's will now, hopefully, have more time to deal with other things.

Sadly, WoW lost some profit this year and that kind of feature could mean they are "letting some GMs go"... But that is just me being a pessimist :P

I don't think so. I think they are trying to devote GMs to more important tasks.

Look at what you quoted then look at what you explained. Notice how they are not the same thing?

To all those asking "Hey I deleted a character back in Wrath or a prior expansion. Will I be able to get it back?" The answer is yes. Blizz keeps that data around forever. Towards the end of Cataclysm I had a character I leveled to 60 in Vanilla, but got it restored purely for the fact that it had a bunch of the old TCG loot tabards and stuff on them when they got deleted. Superficial, yes I know XD. But, still after all that time was able to retrieve.

Given what the article states that is no longer the case and deleted characters below level 50 will start being wiped 90 days following the implementation of this feature.

An out right name change works also done both. Just saying GM's actually recommend the way i explained to swap name from main to alts.

So how long? If the characters names aren't held indefinitely, then other people could potentially take that name. Which means the "free name change" could work, it would just require you to wait out until the name is freed up and then have your friend take it for you.

One would assume that it is held for the length of time that the character is on the server. So 90 days, 120 days, or indefinitely depending on the level at time of deletion.
