Update (5:30 PM EST): A Tiger Strikes hotfix and other changes are incoming.

Patch 6.1 Live This Week
Patch 6.1 goes live this week, bringing us some systems changes and content. We will be updating this post as we wait for the patch to go live, so keep checking back!

Official PTR Patch Notes
The final notes aren't live just yet, but you can look at the PTR notes and all of the class changes right now.

Patch 6.1 Notes - TL;DR
If you can't manage to read all of the notes below, we also have a very short recap of the major patch features.

New Blood Elf Models
New Blood Elf models are finally here!

Character Model Tweaks
Patch 6.1 applies many small tweaks to character models, as well as a change to the Night Elf male running animation. Some of the changes are pictured below.

Heirloom Tab
Patch 6.1 adds the long awaited Heirlooms Tab!

  • The heirloom collection is sorted by slot and can be filtered by class and spec.
  • Existing heirlooms are added to the collection as soon as you log in to the character with them.
  • Most of your existing heirlooms will be added with a 1/2 upgrade level that scales them to Level 90. You will keep the existing heirloom item, so don't worry about losing existing enchants.
  • Garrosh heirlooms don't show in the collection unless you already own them. If you own one, the most powerful version of it will show up in your collection, scaling to Level 100.
  • Clicking on a heirloom in your collection will create a new copy of the heirloom. This copy can be enchanted like any other item, but it will only affect that item. If you want to use the enchanted item on another character, you will need to mail it to the other character.
  • Bind on Account items from Archaeology are not added to this collection.
  • Heirlooms with PvP Power or Resilience have had those stats converted into other, non-PvP secondary stats.
  • Stats have been removed, added, or adjusted on many heirloom items.

Heirloom Item Changes and Upgrades
Patch 6.1 makes a few changes to how heirlooms work and how they are obtained.

Twitter Integration
Patch 6.1 allows you to link a Twitter account to your World of Warcraft account and tweet screenshots, achievements, items, or whatever is on your mind directly from inside the game.

The game and addons cannot send tweets for you automatically and if you don't link a Twitter account, nothing will change for you. There are no achievements or rewards linked to this feature. You can't see your Twitter timeline in game, as this feature just allows for sending tweets.

S.E.L.F.I.E
Patch 6.1 adds S.E.L.F.I.E. Camera as a reward from the Field Photography garrison mission. It allows you to take selfies of your character. If you are lucky enough to get the Lens Some Hands mission, you can use the S.E.L.F.I.E. Lens Upgrade Kit to upgrade your camera to the S.E.L.F.I.E. Camera MkII. This camera has Black and White Filter, Death Filter, and Sketch Filter.

Legendary Quest and Follower
Patch 6.1 advances the legendary quest and will give you a new legendary follower, Garona Halforcen!

  • You will be able to free Garona from Gul'dan
  • Khadgar uses Orb of Dominion to break Gul'dan's mind control of Garona
  • Cordana comes along for the event

Follower Changes
Patch 6.1 adds some new followers, traits, and items.

Mission Changes
Patch 6.1 adds new new missions, new mission types, and new rewards.

  • Two new Profession missions for each profession have been added. They reward 2 or 3 Rush Orders each, depending on duration. These missions require having a Level 3 version of the profession's building.
  • New exploration missions are available to players with a skill of at least 1 in Archaeology. Successfully completing these missions can award Archaeology fragments (Arakkoa, Draenor Clans, Ogre), keystones, or treasure maps for a Draenor zone. Treasure maps obtained in this manner does not require quest achievement completion for the Draenor zone.
  • Archaeology Vendors in Stormshield and Warspear now sell an item that'll spawn a follower exploration mission for 5 Restored Artifacts.
  • New Level-100 Scouting missions to a Battlefield now awards an item that grants access to missions that award Apexis Crystals.
  • New Raid missions to Blackrock Foundry are now available for a cache that awards level 665, 680, or 695 items. These missions have already been added to the Master Plan addon.
  • New follower missions have been added that can award gold, Apexis Crystals, Savage Blood, or Augmentation runes.
  • New Relic Hunter missions have been added, including one that rewards a Seal of Tempered Fate.

Garrison Resource Changes
Scavenger was nerfed, new items added to the garrison resources vendor, and a new source of garrison resources were added.

Work Order / Building Changes
Faster work order completion, more useful buildings, and other quality of life changes.

  • Rush Orders
    • Patch 6.1 adds Rush Orders to your garrison, allowing you to instantly complete 5 active work orders.
    • All of the profession rush orders are rewards of profession missions. Missions that reward 2 take 4 hours and require 2 followers, while missions that reward 3 take 6 hours and require 3 followers.
    • Other rush orders are purchased from the Garrison Resources vendor.
  • Followers now earn experience for completing Work Orders.
  • Work orders now check if a follower is assigned to the building every 4 hours when factoring in production bonuses.
  • Alchemy Lab - Level 2: Followers working at the Alchemy Lab now offers a choice on the free potions you want to receive, but those potions are now soulbound.
  • Dwarven Bunker - Level 3: A daily quest has been added to allow players to exchange 25 x Iron Horde Scraps for an armor or weapon enhancement token.
  • Barn - Savage Blood now drops more frequently when a follower is assigned to the building (it didn’t affect the chance previously).
  • The Lumber Mill and Trading Post no longer cost Garrison Resources to build or upgrade.
  • Lumber Mill work orders now award 30 Garrison Resources (up from 20).
  • Trading Post Parts that drop in Ashran now have a chance to drop from all creatures and NPCs that drop Artifact Fragments, with an increased drop chance based on the quality of the creature or NPCs.
  • Mage Tower / Spirit Lodge now accepts Ogre Waystones as work orders awarding Apexis Crystals and a chance to receive Mission Completion Orders.
  • Miner's Coffee and Preserved Mining Pick no longer have item stack limits. Up to 5 stacks of the Miner's Coffee can be applied by using multiple cups of coffee.
  • Menagerie - Reduced the difficulty of quests to unlock the Menagerie, elite pet challenges, and pet battle daily quests
  • Salvage Yard
    • Tier-3 salvage recovered from Follower missions no longer has an independent chance to drop an uncommon (green), rare (blue), or epic (purple) item and will instead always drop one of them. This change is intended to reduce overall item spam without affecting their value. Existing chance for Tier-3 salvage to potentially also contain an uncommon Tier-2 salvage item remains unchanged.
    • Follower Weaponry and Armor Set tokens (War Ravaged, Blackrock, Goredrenched) no longer drops from salvage. Weapon and Armor enhancement tokens that can upgrade a Follower's weapon or armor item levels will continue to have a chance to drop from Salvage Crates.

Garrison UI Changes
Some functionality from popular addons was added to the default UI, along with some quality of life changes.

  • NPCs that accept Work Orders are now titled as such along with a new interaction cursor to make them easier to locate.
  • Players now have an option to queue up all remaining work order slots through the building's work order UI.
  • List of missions available now displays the amount of bonus XP, gold, and resources awarded without having to mouse-over the mission tooltip.
    • Improved tooltips displaying which followers that can counter threats on a mission.
    • Followers that can counter a threat and available show up with a green checkmark.
    • Followers that can counter a threat but are out on a mission displays the time remaining until the follower is available.
    • Followers that can counter a threat but assigned to a building will display a working icon.
  • A new icon will notify the player when assigning a follower that'll receive less XP reward because they're below level or item level requirements.
  • Garrisons with 10 or more followers now have access to a sortable list with a quick overview of how many followers can counter a particular threat or how long a follower will be out on a mission.

Garrison Jukebox
Patch 6.1 will allow you to change the music in your garrison, but it won't easy to collect all of the music! The fine folks at Wowpedia have been hunting down the music scrolls on the PTR.

You build the jukebox starting with the Bringing the Bass quest from an NPC near your garrison Town Hall. This rewards the jukebox and Stash of Dusty Music Rolls, which contains the default songs listed below.

Default Scrolls
These scrolls are given to you after building your jukebox. All of the scrolls are listed below, but you only earn the songs that belong to your faction.

Profession Changes
The full list of profession changes can be found in the official patch notes.

Graphical Updates
Patch 6.1 adds some nice graphical upgrades to the game:

  • A new version of SSAO for higher end cards: HBAO+
  • New Anti-Aliasing options: MSAA 2x/4x/8x, SSAA 2x, SSAA 2x + CMAA
  • Per-pixel deferred point lights means more realistic lighting from things that emit light, like campfires and lamps.
  • Render scale control, allowing you to choose what scale the world is rendered at. The image is then resized to fit your screen, with higher render scales showing more detail at the cost of performance.

Lighting Quality - Low / Medium / High

Render Scale - 50% / 100% / 200%

New Loading Screens
The garrisons will finally have their own loading screens in Patch 6.1.

Veteran Accounts

We’ve always had this kind of weird limitation where if you’ve never played WoW we let you play as much as you want, albeit in a very restricted Starter Edition account. However, if you have ever had a subscription--but don’t currently have one--we don’t even let you log in. In 6.1 we’ll effectively revert lapsed accounts into a Starter Edition “mode”, with all of the same restrictions. The one difference being that your sub-level 20 characters will be able to join a guild if any of your other characters are still in that guild.

The label for this mode internally is “Veteran”, and those are the strings that were datamined, but it’s unlikely to be a term we use to any great degree externally. It will simply be the default state for accounts that don’t currently have an active subscription.

Would I be able to log into my characters that are level 21 and above?
No.

New Toys
Along with the new toys, several items were flagged as toys so that they can be added to the Toy Box in this patch.

Mystic Runesaber Mount
The Mystic Runesaber mount will be purchased from the in-game shop. Currently the mount is classified as a ground only mount, which would make it the only purchased mount to be ground only. However, the mount has flying animations and wings, so keep in mind that the content on the PTR can always change!

Death Recap UI
Patch 6.1 will give players a little bit more information about how they died in the default UI.

Misc Changes
New Apexis Crystal gear, flight path improvements, shapeshift and cosmetic effect improvements, and more!

  • Ashran will have a regional queue, similar to battlegrounds.
  • Apexis Crystals
    • Characters can now accrue up to a maximum of 60,000 Apexis Crystals (up from 20,000).
    • Dawn-Seeker Rilak (Alliance) and Dawn-Seeker Kirrik (Horde) have set up shop in Stormshield and Warspear offering powerful new items (item level 670) in exchange for Apexis Crystals.
  • Flight Paths
    • Players are now able to fly through flight points that they have not discovered yet if it'll result in a more direct flight path to a destination point.
    • A button has been added for characters in the middle of a flight to get off at the next known flight point.
  • Shapeshift and Cosmetic Effects
    • Many Druid and Shaman shapeshift forms now have attachment points on the head and back for cosmetic toy effects such as Blazing Wings or Pepe.
    • Cosmetic transformations that alter the character's appearance now have a higher priority than Druid combat forms. This means Druids can keep a transformation while shapeshifted.
    • Previously, using another transformation would overwrite or cancel an existing effect. Now, characters can retain multiple cosmetic transformations and the one with the highest priority will be visible. If a higher priority transformation is canceled or expires, the next highest priority transformation will then be visible.
    • Cosmetic transformation effects that do not have a mount riding animation are now temporarily suppressed when using a mount (previously, the effect is either canceled or prevented the use of mounts while active). Characters will regain the transformation once they dismount.
  • Increased the item level of gear awarded from completing daily Challenge Mode quests to 660 (up from 640).
  • Completing the first random Heroic Draenor Dungeon of the day no longer awards a reputation bonus with Pandarian factions.
  • Tertiary Stats for Avoidance, Speed, and Leech now provide about four times as much benefit per stat point.
  • Characters now receive a treasure maps in the mail for completing storyline achievements for a Draenor region.
  • Griftah now sells a variety of transmogrification items for Dingy Iron Coins.
  • Popup notifications such as those for completing an achievement or receiving a reward after a Battleground match can now be dismissed by right-clicking on it.

Colorblind Support
Patch 6.1 adds some official colorblind support to the game.

Originally Posted by Blizzard (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
In World of Warcraft patch 6.1, you’ll find a new user interface system that we’ve designed to assist players who have common visual issues related to colorblindness.

In the new ‘Accessibility’ interface configuration section, you’ll be able to enable both text and color enhancements that may improve your visual experience while playing WoW. ‘Enable UI Colorblind Mode’ (which was previously in the Help section) is now here. These text enhancements add certain words and phrases to the tooltips throughout the game—tooltips that, by default, use different colors to indicate useful information about objects, NPCs, and other players.

For example, when you move your mouse cursor over a piece of rare gear and then a piece of epic gear, the game colors the names of the items blue and then purple, respectively. With ‘UI Colorblind Mode’ enabled, the game will add the words “Rare” and “Epic” to the tooltips for those items. For players who find it difficult to discern between friendly, neutral, or hostile targets, additional indication text in the tooltip will now appear when you move your mouse cursor over other characters.

The game will now have three sets of colorblind filters to choose from: protanopia, deuteranopia, and tritanopia.

These are designed to assist players who have one of the three types of dichromacy, and should be useful to those who have one of the three kinds of anomalous trichromacy: protanomaly, deuteranomaly, and tritanomaly. Each set of color adjustments is available via a handy dropdown selector, and each comes with a ‘strength’ slider. The farther to the right you set the slider, the more the game removes potentially problematic wavelengths of color for each type.

To learn more about color vision deficiencies, check out the Wikipedia article on “Color blindness”. You can find a number of resources and free online color vision tests at colorvisiontesting.com.

WoWDB Addon Data Collection
Quickly populating the database with 6.1 additions is done with the help of many players. The more people that contribute data, the more accurate and quickly we can update the database.

To help out, just click here if you have Curse Client already installed.

When you are playing the addon will gather data and save it. When you are done playing, Curse Client will see the game close and upload the collected data from the addon. You can see the last time data was uploaded by looking in the Plugins tab of the options, as well as making sure the addon is enabled there. Be sure you have Curse Client open before you close WoW so that the data will upload!

The addon now supports Live, Beta, and the PTR, so be sure to add all of your WoW installs to the client.

Lumber Mill work orders now award 30 Garrison Resources (up from 20).
What happens when Phylarch the Evergreen is assigned to the Lumber Mill?

Yea, they said it will come with 6.1 patch. Maybe they realised that on 1 server 30k gold for a month would be way too expensive when on another 60k would still be fine

They could've at least thrown in a rehashed dungeon or two à la 4.1.

I loved the original WOD NIght Elf male run animation and this change is depressing as FUCK as far as my first world problems go. I find the cartoony whimsy addictive as hell and it's had me swimming in endorphins for several months still.

This is fucking bullshit and I'm sad.

You get 45, so it still retains a niche as the best GR generation building

That was apart of the 2015 blog and won't be in until 6.2 at the earliest, and isn't for sure going to be in game, just being discussed internally.

    Can anyone explain me this?

Tertiary Stats for Avoidance, Speed, and Leech now provide about four times as much benefit per stat point.
What does it exactly mean in your opinion...

Can't wait to hear the same goddamn killjoy whining every single time they add something that isn't a raid or dungeon.

Because 10 years of that shit just wasn't enough.

WOW is an MMO RPG, not a fucking raid game. All content is CONTENT.

It gives 4x the percentage, making them quite potent. One high ilvl item with speed buffed 4x can provide 5% movement speed on its own in 6.1.

Yeah is sad really, in that it seems to a lot of people if the content patch does not include a new raid or new dungeon or whatever, then it is not a content patch..
