Update (3:00 PM EDT): Legendary finally uploaded the VR movie teaser to Youtube.

Warcraft Movie Trailer - November 2015
We finally have a release date for the trailer!

Warcraft Movie Footage
Attendees saw several minutes of footage and no recording was allowed.

  • Nerdist had a recap of the panel, but there wasn't any huge news there.
  • Recap of the footage from io9. Read the full description on their site for more!
    • Durotan says “Our planet is dying, we need food and water.” A group of orcs sit around the fire and talk about how they believe in the orc warlock Gul’dan (Daniel Wu), and will follow his lead.
    • Next Durotan and his wife, Draka, are laying on the ground of their hut. The wife has chosen a name for their child, but the father says “I’ll choose a name when I meet him.” She then reveals it’s a son and he’s very excited.
    • We see the aforementioned Gul’dan on a massive cliff with the Dark Portal from the games behind him. “Dead, alive, dead, alive,” he slowly chants. He reveals that a thousand soldiers need a thousand slaves - prisoners, not corpses - as fuel for the Fel
    • Montage of shots of the Alliance characters walking in on and around Stormwind, before we go back to the orcs, “We are not powerful enough to defeat them” one says to the other. “We could be,” the other responds.
    • King Llane Wrynn says “They’re beasts, they should be destroyed. If we do not unite to fight this enemy, we shall perish.”
    • There’s a shot reminiscent of Braveheart where the Alliance is running from the left side of the frame, it pans right and the orcs are running, and the smash into each other in the middle. That’s followed by a shot of a guy jumping off a cliff and jumping onto a Gryphon.
    • Warcraft definitely looks like it’s CG and green screen. These are not real sets.
    • Think a dirtier, dustier, more muted Avatar.
    • I think many fans are going to complain that it looks to fake but, come on, how else could this get pulled off?
  • Recap of the footage from geektyrant
    • The footage basically starts off with clips of the orcs and their lives in a desolate wasteland that is dying. They need to find a new place to live so they can survive.
    • This leads to them making their way through the dark portal into the world of Azeroth thanks to the help of warlock Gul'dan with his death magic.
    • Of course The Alliance discovers them, think the Orc are dangerous, and they go to war!
    • The audience was then treated to a ton of visually stunning battles sequences between these two factions.
    • Seriously, the footage that we saw is unlike anything I have ever seen before. It is the true definition of "epic."
    • I haven't been moved by film footage like this since I saw The Lord of the Rings for the first time.
    • Warcraft takes all of that CGI filmmaking to a whole new level.
  • Recap of the footage from ComingSoon
    • Basically it starts with a focus on the Horde as it shows a bunch of them walking across the wilderness until they come to an area with a bunch of green orcs
    • We spend some time with the orcs as they realize they need to find food and water to save their world
    • It shows a lot of Durotan and his wife who is pregnant and that seems to be a big part of the story
    • But we see a wizard creating a portal from the souls of prisoners
    • Anyway, the wizard creates the portal and the orcs rush through it and for that whole section we haven't seen a single human
    • When they get through the portal, they first see the humans on horseback and we get to see King Llane and some of the other characters who say that the Horde are monsters that need to be destroyed
    • There was a lot of footage of all the characters but it kept coming back to Durotan and his wife who has the baby in the human world where he's in danger
    • Yes, filming has been finished a long time. From the footage it's obviously very CG heavy especially in the Horde scenes because that's all CG
    • What's interesting is that it seems to be focusing more on the Horde characters in terms of the emotional base of the film
    • But maybe it was more impressive to show those characters than the humans
    • We did see a few scenes where the clash as well as characters riding on Gryphons
    • They didn't show a trailer but full footage, probably; 5-6 minutes and they were using the large side screens so the footage was being extended to either side
    • It looks good but it's very CG heavy
    • This wasn't a trailer but they obviously have enough footage to do one. I think this was more to introduce the story being told, the basic characters and the visuals
    • The individual characters looked great but there were huge scenes with thousands of orcs and the scene where Medivh opens the portal was pretty impressive
    • Yeah, the music was great and it definitely seems to be actual score from Ramin Djawadi (Iron Man, Pacific Rim)
    • No, they did not say when they will release the trailer online or anywhere.
    • We did get a brief glimpse of the elves, very short
    • "what about Paula Patton?" - We only see her very briefly in chains being taken somewhere
    • It seems the characters are really being given a lot of life and dimension

Why are people so anti-CGI these days...Avatar for example will probably hold just as strong 10 years from now as it did when released. Just as Jurassic Park still holds strong with the CGI even though it's old as dirt compared to other movies. Or maybe kids today see Jurassic Park and go "That looks so fake!" about the CGI stuff...that'd be sad.

Superman V Batman has had 2 trailers out and its a year away too, no reason we can't have a trailer out for this yet. This is the third ComiCon where they have been promoting it, and nothing but an awful VR trailer with so many lore inconsistencies we can only hope thats not actually in the movie.

We really need a trailer for this.

Its often very noticeable and plasticy looking.

I fear for more Orc heavy shit. As an Ally and as a movie goer, general audiences, i think, will be thrown off by "the bad guys" (orcs) being a central focus.

Warcraft lore doesnt matter to people, only existing stereotypes, and those have orcs and those kind of beasties on the "bad" side of things.

Also the CGI scares me as well..The Hobbit proved how awful CGI can be and how it fades drastically in comparison to prosthetic and make up. But they do have live actors portraying them so hopefully it's CGI enhanced and not full CGI...Full CGI is always a mistake.
The problem with the hobbit wasn't cgi.

Well, they do use motion capture like in Avatar and the rebooted planet of the apes franchise. It can look great if they do it the right way or just aweful like in the hobbit trilogy compared to the LOTR trilogy.

The movie is also almost 1 year away. They got plenty of time to render the footage they got now to make it look better and better. I wasn't ther at comic con so I dont really know how well made the foorage looked now, but I bet there is room for improvment.

Is this like the 3rd time they block the general audience from seeing anything? What's the point? They really want their movie to bomb?

I personally think it will be hard to get general audiences to car about orcs, I think there could end up being a lot of "why was the focus not more on the humans?" comments after the movie.
I mean, I dont care too much, I will go see it and proly enjoy it. I just wonder if they will succeed in getting people new to Warcraft to care about orcs.

Teasing massively about a big trailer reveal and yet holding it to attendees only, wow what a good way to kill any hype the movie has
How? You're on MMO-Champion whining about it I don't think it can get more hype

That is a HEAVY exception to the rule, especially at SDCC. For example, Suicide Squad's footage was exclusive to the Con, and that's been the case with almost every film showcased there in recent memory. Seriously, why does anyone find this surprising. This is common practice, especially when a film is nearly a year away. Yes, the practice sucks, I agree, but it is what it is.

The eyes are a bit too human for an orc, that orc looks like a human-gorilla hybrid with a bad weave. Brushier eyebrows, protrude the brow a little more, and darken and sink the eyes. Further, the body type is human, needs to be beefed up more. Someone send Legendary the cinematics from Vanilla and TBC, or send the cinematics department over to show them how it's done.

Also, I thought The Hobbit suffered from story-related problems and not CGI? Because it sure wasn't the CGI making me think "Man, couldn't they have let this be in Desolation of Smaug" about the first minutes of the battle against him or all the other issues I had with the movies.

I think that if done right, people can realize pretty soon that these Orcs are not the same as say the Orcs of LOTR. It wouldn't be the first time people are able to side with the less mainstream characters, so to speak. >.>

Jurassic Park used a lot of animatronics and it is still an amazing movie. Take a look a Star Wars Episode 1-3... Heavy CGI, JJ Abrams learned from this and kept a lot of things out of CGI with the Force Awakens.. I don't mind CGI but if you CGI a great deal of it you might as well make an animated movie. Or maybe kids today are so attached to CGI and thats all they care about.. How sad..

Don't think so, well-made CGI with a good story will probably trump everything to most people. Just as movies with a good story and no CGI at all can win audiences. Kids below a certain age will probably not be critical either way.

these idiots really think we love orcs that much

Yet another "no general audience" allowed. The movie is out in less than one year.

That definitely doesn't seem like Legendary. The idiots behind Blizzard are probably trying to prevent most people from seeing it until Blizzcon. Gotta get those sales up because I doubt they'll have much to talk about this year.

Legendary needs to take over the production of this movie and the promotion or it won't stand a chance.

They need to release a trailer. I don't think this film has enough mind share. I honestly keep forgetting it's a thing.

Not a true statement.....There is a list the length of my body of things that were wrong with The Hobbit...But the CGI on everything was definitely one of the problems. Everything looked like hell.

What exactly was wrong with the hobbit's CGI? Smaug is literally one of the best characters in all of cinema in terms of his presentation. Not Tolkien's fault that peter jackson decided to kill him off 5 minutes into part 3 instead of using that scene to end part 2. And if the hobbit was so god awful why did it do so well at the box office? I literally do not understand why people piss and moan about so much stuff when in this world money is law and the hobbit sure made a lot of it.

Do I think it deviated too much from the books just like the LOTR trilogy did? Yes, but they were still some damn good movies outside of a few minor complaints.

Exactly CGI is important to kids these days, since they don't know anything else. Just some things you shouldn't CGI, Blizzard will learn the hard way that Lucas did.

Based on Warcraft I think is what you meant to say. Granted I'm sure half the people on this forum were even alive when those of us were playing Orcs and Humans.
