Didn't they try this about 5 years ago? Or am I imagining this?

Edit: Heh, I didn't necro this post... it showed up on the front page. Not sure how that happened. This post seems like it was 2007?
*sigh* Edit 2: Saw users name that posted and thought I was looking at the post date.

Weird. Wonder if this will be implemented into their main games?

Not looking forward to the days when random dungeon groups expect you to join voip if that's the case.

It's not. This post is from today, March 17th 2016. The battle.net client in reference didn't exist in 2007. Way way back in the day they added ingame voice chat to WoW specifically and it bombed. This seems more like a universal client that can be accessed through the battle.net app between all blizzard games.

Interesting, wonder how this will actually work out. This is a pretty good feature, I wouldn't mind talking to randoms in dungeons, sounds kinda fun. Obviously there will be a mute function so we can mute trolls but other than the trolls it could be pretty cool.

Yup sure did, I remember being in a Kara when it came out. The fact that no one remembers it shows just how successful it was

Yes, they tried this before, but not 5 years ago. Has been a little while longer since they tried the whole WoW Voice Chat thing and it turned out horrible, hence why it isn't in the Game anymore. Let's hope this thing will be better, if they actually think about putting those ingame.

I hope they've learned from their previous attempts with a voice chat.

Let's hope this works better than the voice chat patch crap did.

IIRC they're working with a third party voip company for this kind of thing now, though. They put the voice chat in Overwatch, and that actually works surprisingly well.

Doubt that they'll have it active in LFG/LFR acessed content. It'll only end up creating more toxic behavior than there already is (or help enhance the toxic behavior that is already given, really..) and they should know that.

That said, it'd still be a nice addition, if it's about 5 times better than their first attempt at Voice Communication.

Hopefully they learn from the WoW in game voice chat, mummble, and vent. To make a better one that players would use, the original one was so bad.

Shit, I feel old. If you would have asked me I would have told you that it came out sometime during WotLK. I don't at all remember this during TBC.

This is great news. If this works out, the game will reach new hights. Just because those players that does not raid and have big guilds can be socially active in other ways and maybe make friends and love the game more. Just my take on it! I would love some night just going in to random dungeons and destroy stuff while talking to like minded people. Sounds great to me.

Most likely they will base it off of the same tech used for Overwatch. The voice chat works perfectly fine technology wise. They prove they can make it work now just to see how they implement it

Well it can't be worse than their last attempt way back when. :P

They should have a public voice chat like H1Z1 where you can talk to the people near you. Just imagine the discussions in capital cities.

Hopefully it will do better then in-game VC did, it'd be nice not to need to keep 3 seperate programs updated and fine tuned just for raids.

All these comments seem to forget the chat's already testable in Overwatch. The quality is actually really good and only hindered by the occasional crappy mic.
