Table of Contents
Overview
Argus the Unmaker is the last boss of the expansion. In this encounter you will be fighting the titan Argus through four unique phases.Heroic Changes
- During Phase 3, adds gain Inevitability after being interrupted, preventing any interrupts for 20 seconds.
- In Phase 4, Sweeping Scythe is replaced with Deadly Scythe.
- Heroic specific mechanics and abilities will be marked with throughout the guide.
Strategy and Positioning
- Positioning and strategy will vary each Phase due to their unique nature.
Phase 1 (100-70%):
- The boss should be tanked in the middle of the room.
- The raid should stack right behind the boss, and move clockwise while he casts of Cone of Death.
- Players affected by Soulblight should run out directly behind the stack of players and allow their debuff to time out.
- Only one tank should stand in front of the boss at any given time.
- Golganneth’s Aid will mark two players with Gift of the Sky and Gift of the Sea.
- We recommend placing the lightning orb in melee range behind the boss, while the water orb can be placed slightly further back.
- Coming into contact with one of the orbs will provide a stacking buff that lasts 30 seconds.
- Water: Versatility and Haste bonus.
- Lightning: Critical Strike and Mastery Bonus.
- These buffs are mutually exclusive, and picking up the opposite buff will clear any stacks you had, so we suggest stacking one of the buffs as high as possible throughout the phase.
- We recommend placing the lightning orb in melee range behind the boss, while the water orb can be placed slightly further back.
Phase 2 (70-40%):
- During the start of the transition Golganneth’s Wrath will clear all the Death Fog in the area.
- The boss should be tanked close to the edge of the encounter area.
- The raid can loosely spread behind the boss to make dodging Edge of Obliteration easier.
- When the boss reaches 100 Energy two players will be marked with Soulburst, and one player with Soulbomb.
- Players affected by Soulburst should move as far from the raid as possible. We recommend having set markers, making it easier for the two players to stay farm from each other and the raid.
- The player affected by Soulbomb should run to the direct opposite side of the platform, and should be accompanied by the tank with the Aggramar’s Boom buff.
- At 50 Energy, the boss will apply two Soulburst debuffs. These should be handled in the same way.
Phase 3 (40%):
- Temporal Blast will split the boss into seven adds.
- The raid should be loosely spread around the middle of the room.
- Cosmic Ray will mark random players, sending a ray towards them which hits anyone in its path.
- Cosmic Beacon should be the only ability that is interrupted during this phase. We suggest assigning at least one player to interrupt this cast on each of the adds.
- A random add will gain Sword of the Cosmos. This add should be picked up by the tank and moved at least 20 yards away from other adds.
- A random add will gain Blades of the Eternal. This add should be picked up by the other tank and moved to one of the adds around the edges of the room to make cleaving easier.
- Each of the adds will gain Discs of Norgannon, increasing their damage taken by a specific school of magic. Keep an eye on which add has the weakness for the school of magic that your class is strong at dealing.
Phase 4 (Below 40%):
- Right before the transition into this Phase, the raid should stack in the center of the platform.
- After the whole raid is killed by Reap Soul, Eonar will spawn a single Gift of the Lifebinder (tree) in the area, allowing everyone to Release Spirit.
- The Death Mechanic:
- Coming into contact with the Gift of the Lifebinder will revive the dead player.
- Avoid running into Hungering Souls, because they will slow you, and knock you away from the tree.
- Each time a player is revived the energy of the tree diminishes. After it is completely gone, the tree will gain a dot that causes it to take more damage whenever a player is revived. Healers can direct heal the tree to keep it alive at this point.
- After the raid is revived the boss should be interrupted before he finishes casting End of All Things, and moved to the same position he was tanked in during Phase 2.
- The raid should loosely stack beind the boss, while avoiding the Ember of Rage, which will consistently fall during this Phase.
- At 100 Energy, the boss will apply Soulburst to two players, and Soulbomb to one player. These should be handled the same way as Phase 2.
- Periodically Reorigination Modules will appear around the room, and start creating and increasing Reorigination Pulse Zone. We suggest killing these adds as soon as possible to minimize the area of the pulse.
- When Reorigination Modules die, Motes of Titanic Power will appear in the Spirit World, which can be picked up by any dead players to grant power to Khaz’goroth.
- While Khaz’goroth remain above 20 Power he will buff the entire raid with the Titanforged Buff. His energy is drained every 1.5 second, making it important to maintain it by consuming Motes of Titanic Power in the Spirit World.
- Deadly Scythe does not have a duration, so we suggest a single tank taking hits until he dies, then the other tank taunting the boss. This downtime gives opportunity for the dead tank to collect as many Motes of Titanic Power as possible before reviving.
Strategies by Role
Hopefully these strategies and tips in our Argus the Unmaker guide will help you to defeat this encounter! All Roles
- The transition to Phase 4 resets all potion timers, so we suggest using two during the first 3 Phases.
- Avoid standing in Death Fog during Phase 1.
- Never stand in front of the boss if you are a non-tank class.
- Avoid standing in the Reorigination Pulse zone when the Modules die.
DPS
- Focus on maintaining and stacking the buff that is more beneficial for your class during Phase 1.
- Prioritize killing the add that has weakness to your school of magic during Phase 3.
- Cosmic Beacon should be the only ability interrupted during Phase 3.
Healers
- Prioritize keeping the tanks alive after Soulbomb and Soulburst explosions.
- After the tree becomes withered in Phase 4, some healing should be directed towards it.
- Tortured Rage, along with another aoe ability can easily kill the raid if not quickly healed up.
Tanks
- Tanks should taunt after 3 stacks of Sweeping Scythe. Make sure to use stronger defensive cooldowns for later stacks.
- Deadly Scythe applies a permanent debuff, making death the only way to clear it. One tank should take as many stacks as possible before dying.
- During Phase 3, make sure to quickly taunt the adds who gain weapons. The weapons can randomly switch to caster adds throughout the phase, so we suggest keeping an eye on them.
