The Pink Mercy campaign raised $12.7 million USD for Breast Cancer Research!

This is the largest donation by a corporate partner within one year in BCRF’s 25-year history, and it’s all because of you.

In addition to picking up the charity skin, players showed their support for the cause by purchasing thousands of limited-edition Pink Mercy T-shirts, available for men and women, designed by community artist VICKISIGH.

Charity stream viewers, rejoice! In addition to the $12.7 million raised through sales of the skin and T-shirt, you separately raised over $130,000 USD in donations watching 14 different Overwatch stars stream on Twitch.

Community Creations
Over the course of the two-week fundraising campaign, the community came together to create fan art, cosplay, and more.

Blizzard Welcomes BCRF
BCRF leadership joined game director Jeff Kaplan and the Overwatch team to celebrate the success and accept the donation at a special check presentation.

We Salute You
Once again, you’ve dared to see what the world could be and have help take a significant step forward in the mission to cure breast cancer.

Thank you, heroes!

100% of the money goes to charity.

Which is fantastic but the field is unfortunately receiving much more money, proportional to diagnosis prevalence or burden to society, than any other type, including prostate and lung cancer. I'd like to see major corporations do a fundraisers for a cancer that isn't breast.

I'm a cancer researcher and the money is falling from the sky for breast, but if I take a stroll down to the hospital, anyone who ends up with something like pancreatic adenocarcinoma is hosed.

Breasts are nice to look at. You can't win.
I find the extreme campaigning for breast cancer pretty lame.

That skin was worth the money. Happy that it raised that much.

I am ignorant on this area of research, but doesn't research into breast cancer also end up finding breakthroughs for other types of cancer?
I would think some of the research would be cross compatible.

Some of it does, like how to more efficiently kill cancer without killing healthy cells, but there are differences between the different kinds of cancer, especially in how those cancers form and how to detect them effectively.

blizzard is a multi-billion dollar company they could "raise" a whole hell of a lot more money themselves using their own money if they actually gave a shit but they don't it's just performative charity to make themselves look better and they're using YOUR money to do it. not theirs

so.. No one should donate to charity unless they have a billion dollars? Blizzard is a company that answers to shareholders. It is not a non-profit organization.

charities and the like should stop relying on people with (comparatively) hardly any money (basically everyone on these forums) and we as a society should expect/demand these billionaires and multi billion dollar corporations to stop arbitrarily hoarding money and start actually contributing what they're more than capable of contributing themselves

At the risk of infraction, you are retarded.

Blizzard makes a microtransaction item, sells it to the player.

Option A) It is a chairty item, all the money for the item goes directly to that cause.
Option B) It is a regular item, they make profit on the microtransaction, and then donate a portion of their total profits to charity.

It is the same fucking money guy. Where do you think those billions of dollars are coming from? Blizzard doesn't have money trees at their HQ. That is customer money they get from selling products. They would be """relying""" on regular people either way. The only difference is that instead of making say, a few hundred thousand dollars on a skin, they set it up to go directly to the charity instead of into their profits and a direct donation--encouraging people to spend money for a good cause.

And then they literally credited the community five fucking times for the money.
