Uldir Boss Guides » Zek'voz, Herald of N'zoth Guide

Zek'voz, Herald of N'zoth is a boss in the Uldir raid in World of Warcraft. Our strategy guide will help you to defeat the Zek'voz, Herald of N'zoth encounter and the loot listing below contains all of the loot he drops on each difficulty.

Overview

Zek’voz is a three phase fight, with the last phase being a soft enrage where players will start being mind controlled. This is an add cleave fight with two types of adds spawning periodically.

Heroic Changes

Strategy and Positioning

  • Positioning of the boss will depend on the current Phase the encounter is in. Below is a detailed list of strategy and movement.

Phase 1 (100 - 70%):
  • The raid should be loosely spread to prevent Eye Beam from bouncing to too many players.
  • When Silithid Warrior spawn, they should be kited through the boss, where they can be controlled and killed before they reach their targets.

Phase 2 (70 - 40%:
  • Roiling Deceit should be placed in the corners and edges of the room, as far from the raid as possible.
  • The raid should be loosely spread around the center of the room to allow a quick reaction to the three adds that spawn.

Phase 3 (40 - 0%):
  • This is the burn phase, where orbs will fall from the sky which can be soaked for a 100% health, damage, and healing increase for the duration of the debuff.
  • After the orb debuff expires, players will be mind controlled, and should be quickly killed.

Strategies by Role

All Roles

  • When the boss reaches 100 energy, it casts Surging Darkness. There are three patterns which happen at random, but one of the rings within the circle will always be safe.
  • Avoid stepping on clouds placed by Roiling Deceit, because they spawn a deadly add.

DPS

  • Quickly kill the Silithid Warriors in Phase 1 to prevent them from reaching their targets.
  • Anub’ar Voidreavers will cast Voidbolt which should be interrupted on a rotation.
  • Damage dealers with the highest burst damage should soak Orbs of Corruption to maximize the overall damage.
  • Mind controlled players will cast Psionic BLast, which should be kicked to prevent players from being feared.

Healers

  • Titan Spark will deal damage to random players.
  • The tank will take a large amount of damage during the Might of the Void combo.
  • The tank with two stacks of Void Lash will be unhealable for the duration of the debuff.
  • Damage in the last phase will significantly increase, making this the best place to use cooldows as needed.

Tanks

  • The boss will periodically unleash Might of the Void. One tank can hold the boss for all three strikes with a defensive cooldown, after which the second tank should quickly grab aggro.
  • The boss should always be faced away from the raid to prevent players being hit by Void Lash.
  • In Phase 1, the boss should be tanked around the center of the room to allow kiting all the Silithid Warriors through it.
  • In Phase 2, tank the boss either directly between the three Anub’ar Voidreavers to make it easier for the melee DPS to swap targets quickly.

Mechanics Overview
  • 3 Phase Fight
  • Might of the Void
    • This is a 3 attack combo on the tank.
    • Void Lash - This hits everything in a frontal cone of the boss for 92k damage and a 50% healing taken reduction is applied to anyone hit.
    • Shatter - This hits the current tank for 290k physical damage and increases their physical damage taken by 50%.
    • Void Lash - This does another 92k damage plus and applies another stack of the healing reduction, reducing healing taken by 100% for 8 seconds.
    • One tank is able to handle all three attacks with proper cooldowns and externals.
    • This combo ability happens about every 30 seconds.
  • Surging Darkness
    • This is a series of 3 circular eruptions with alternating safe spots. It is cast when the boss reaches 100 energy.
      • There are 3 possible circular safe spots, think of them as "close", "middle" and "far".
    • The whole raid must move to the safe spot during each eruption of Surging Darkness.
    • The whole raid will take damage with each eruption.
    • Failure to move to the safe zone will result in death unless you have a major defensive / immunity active.
  • Titan Spark
    • The two titan discs on the sides of the room will random deal damage to players throughout the encounter.
    • The ability happens about every 20 seconds.

Phase 1 - 90% HP
  • New Abilities
    • Eye Beam
      • Over the course of 10 seconds, three players will be debuffed with Eye Beam.
      • This ability will jump to nearby players and increase in damage each time it jumps.
      • Targeted players must ensure they are >5 yards from other players during Eye Beam.
    • Silithid Warriors
      • These are small scarab adds that spawn in a group.
      • They fixate random players and can not be tanked. If they reach a player, their melee attack applies a hefty DoT and slows them.

Phase 1 Strategy
  • Keep an eye on the timer for Surging Darkness and move to safe spots.
  • Stay spread during all three casts of Eye Beam.
    • Eye Beam will occur during a Surging Darkness, so the raid must be careful during this overlap as positioning is tight. It is better to have an Eye Beam target die to Surging Darkness than have the Eye Beam chain through the raid, causing an instant wipe.
  • The entire raid should stack behind the boss as Silithid Warriors spawn, funneling them to the same spot for stuns, knockbacks and AoE cleave.
  • There is an overlap where Silithid Warriors will spawn right before / during Surging Darkness, requiring increased raid coordination.

Above is an example of initial phase 1 positioning. You will need to actively move around and readjust due to the Surging Darkness, but you can always reset to a position like the one pictured.

Phase 2 - 60% HP
  • New Abilities
    • Roiling Deceit
      • This is a strong DoT that deals 27k damage every 3 seconds.
      • Upon expiring, Rolling Deceit creates a cloud / puddle at your feet.
      • If any player comes in contact with one of these clouds / puddles aGuardian of Yogg Saron spawns.
        • These adds cast Shadow Nova when they die dealing 67k damage to everyone in the raid.
      • Ideally no adds should ever spawn, and players should take care to avoid touching these spawn triggers.
    • Nerubian Voidweaver
      • These are 3 adds that spawn in a triangle formation. They spawn in roughly the same locations each time.
      • They are rooted in place and can not be moved.
      • They cast Void Bolt
        • Void Bolt is interruptable, and should be kicked constantly. They can also be crowd controlled by any humanoid based CC.
        • If not interrupted, Void Bolt deals 76k damage to a random target.

Phase 2 Strategy
  • Roiling Deceit targets must move far out of the raid when their debuff is about to expire, dropping their clouds / puddles in corners and away from the main encounter area.
  • Tank the boss within cleave range of one of the Nerubian Voidweavers when they spawn, and move him to another when that it dies. Repeat until all three Nerubian Voidweavers are killed.
    • Maximizing cleave damage is important to ensure you can meet the DPS requirement in terms of boss damage.
    • It is recommended to focus target one add down at a time and Crowd Control the other two with things like hunter trap, polymorph, hex and so on.
  • ALWAYS interrupt near the end of the Void Bolt cast timer when possible, there is no lockout on these adds and they chain cast after each interrupt.
  • Positioning is roughly the same as phase 1 outside of adjustments to tank the boss near the Voidweavers.

Phase 3 - 30%
  • New Abilities
    • Orb of Corruption
      • An shadow orb falls from the ceiling. If it hits ground, it deals 61k damage per second for 5 seconds to everyone, doubling in damage after each tick.
      • Failure to soak on orb will result in a wipe.
      • One person must stand in the purple circle that appears, indicating where the orb will land.
      • Orbs spawn every 15 seconds in phase 3.
      • Soaking an orb gives you a buff called Corruptor’s Pact
        • This buff increases your HP, Damage, and Healing done by 100% for 30 seconds.
        • After 30 seconds you are mind controlled by Will of the Corruptor and your raid must kill you.
          • As the Corruptor's Pact buff is nearing the end of it's duration, the player that is about to get mind controlled will have a swirly purple visual 8 yards around them. When the mind control occurs, they will deal 36k damage to anyone within 8 yards of them and cause them to be feared.
          • Once mind controlled players will cast Psionic Blast, which does 18k damage and fears a random target if it gets off.
          • The raid must prioritize stunning, interrupting and killing mind control targets.
    • Overload
      • Makes Titan Spark deal damage twice as often, increasing raid damage in the final phase.

Phase 3 Strategy
  • All orbs must be soaked. Setting a rotation ahead of time will minimize confusion.
  • Have the highest non-execute DPS take the first orb.
  • Rotate through the best execute phase dps to soak the following orbs.
  • This maximizes your phase 3 damage, resulting in the boss being killed quicker.
  • Bloodlust once the first orb is soaked.
  • Phase 3 is a race against the cloak to see if you can kill the boss before you run out of players to soak orbs.
  • Positioning is the same as phase 1.

Mythic Zek'voz, Herald of N'zoth Abilities and Strategy Guide
  • On Mythic, there are two phases. 90% to 40% and 40% to dead.
  • All heroic phase 1 and phase 2 abilities start at the same time at the beginning of the encounter.
    • The only change to these abilities is the Nerubian Voidweaver
    • Every 6 seconds, their damage increases by 5%.
    • After 10 stacks of this buff, which takes 1 minute from the time they spawn, the adds become immune to crowd control.
    • Nerubian Voidweavers are the priority target on Mythic.
    • Keep the 2 Voidweavers in the back crowd controlled while you kill the one in the front.
    • As soon as the front one dies, move boss to one of the 2 in the back and kill that one, all while keeping the 3rd add crowd controlled.
    • Finally, kill the last add.
    • Interrupt as many of their casts as possible.
  • Mythic Phase 2 has the same mechanics as Heroic phase 3.
  • Surging Darkness is now 4 casts and the safe spot is somewhat randomized. It will always start with middle being safe, then it will be random, then middle safe, finally ending on a random safe spot.
  • Silithid Warriors and Nerubian Voidweavers will overlap and spawn simultaneously. This happens 1 minute into the fight then every 2 minutes thereafter.
    • Silithid Warriors must die from AoE cleave damage while the Voidweavers are focused down by strong single target players, as well as those in the interrupt rotation for Void Bolt.
    • The DoT from Silithid Warriors hits extremely hard on Mythic. Utilizing stuns, knockbacks and grips to keep them grouped up yet out of melee range of the raid is ideal. Ring of Peace from Monks is particularly strong for this.
    • The goal is to have the pack of Silithid Warriors dead, or mostly dead by the time the first Nerubian Voidweaver is killed.
  • Roiling Deceits and Eye Beam work just like heroic, and must be handled properly. Any chaining from an Eye Beam will cause at least one player to die. Adds spawned from a player touching a Roiling Deceit cloud will stress your healers, and require a major cooldown when they die or the raid will wipe.
  • Note that if you do accidently spawn a Guardian of Yogg Saron, Monks can cast Ring of Peace under them right before they die, and it will prevent the Shadow Nova from going off.
  • When the boss reaches 40% HP, adds will stop spawning, but Roiling Deceit and Eye Beam will continue until the boss dies.
  • On Mythic, mind controls from soaking the orb become much more important to properly manage. You may need to have a healer soak every 4th or 5th orb to ensure you have enough DPS to kill the boss.
    • Death Grip is a great way to pull a mind controlled player into melee range, to have them quickly stunned and cleaved down.
  • Tips
    • Bring five healers. If you can get to the final phase with everyone alive, you can kill the boss.
    • Battle Rez your initial players that get mind controlled and killed in the final phase to keep DPS high.
    • The most deadly points on this encounter are when Eye Beam + Surging Darkness are happening at the same time, as well as when Rolling Deceit + Surging Darkness are happening. See the section below for overlap timings.
    • Remember that Nerubian Voidweavers can be stunned as well as interrupted. Save stuns for when you are moving during Surging Darkness and Voidweavers are still alive. On Mythic the Void Bolt will nearly one shot any non-tank player.

Mythic Surging Darkness Overlaps
  • Below are the timings for some of the more dangerous overlaps.
    • 0:25 - Surging Darkness #1 & Roiling Deceit.
    • 1:48 - Surging Darkness #2 & Eye Beam.
      • For this Surging Darkness, you need to pre-spread around the boss. Use as much of the room as possible. Eye Beam will be casting still during the first 2 safe areas all while the last Nerubian Voidweaver is still alive.
    • 3:11 - Surging Darkness #3 & Adds.
    • 4:35 - Surging Darkness #4 & Roiling Deceit.
    • 6:08 - Surging Darkness #5 with no overlaps.
    • ~7:00 - Eye Beams immediately followed by Deceit.
    • ~7:40 - Surging Darkness #6 no overlaps.
