Role Rework Teaser
A new Heroes shirt went up on the Blizzard Store recently, named the Role Icon Long Sleeve Shirt. It has a total of six role icons on it, suggesting that the development team has settled on the six roles teased (tank, bruiser, healer, support, melee, and ranged) in interviews and AMAs over the past few months. We will likely see an official reveal of the reworked role system coming in the near future.

As mentioned in our recent blog post, we’re going to host a Balance & Design AMA right here on /r/heroesofthestorm on Wednesday, September 19! The Heroes devs will join the thread and answer your questions starting around 10:00 a.m. PDT (7:00 p.m. CEST) until 12:00 p.m. PDT (9:00 p.m. CEST).

NOTE: We've moved this AMA back from the original date stated in the linked blog post in order to give players more time to experience the current live content before preparing developer questions.

Developers from the live design, hero design, and productions teams will be on hand to answer your questions.

When posting multiple AMA questions: Please make an effort to post one question per comment. This will make it easier for others to read through the thread, and will help the devs focus on one question at a time. However, please feel free comment as many times as you'd like in order to get your questions posted.

You might also see Blizzard Community Managers posting questions on behalf of players in our non-English speaking communities during the AMA. Feel free to upvote those questions if you’d like to see answers to them.

We will be starting a new thread on the morning of the AMA, so please hold your questions until then.

Yeah, if you look at the descriptions for the specialists in game, a lot of them already tell you where they will go. Nazeebo is referred to as a "mage", Medivh is specifically called a "Support", Sylvanas is an "Assassin who can disable towers", Hammer is a "high physical damage dealer"...

The only one that I'm not sure where they will fall is Lost Vikings.

It's so time for the role rework... People still live in 2015, demanding mage or specialist in every game. It's horrible. And you can't argue with them - tell them "specialists don't exist anymore" and they go ham. Then they pick their beloved Sylvanas and try split pushing all game, failing horribly. And this only got worse in unranked/QM. I really hope they put some work into the UI, making some tutorial/know your roles tab that explains heroes, their roles and the "meta" they design their game around (Hard-Tank, Healer, [ranged]-Assassine). They did a very poor job in the past in that regard.

They failed attempts at creating Hybrid-Tanks like blaze/Yrel contributed to only more confusion.

... Blaze and Yrel are absolutely fine, what the fuck?

My only concern is how this will affect quests. It's already annoying enough that the majority of the game is assassins, now the other roles are getting split up even further.

You completely misunderstood me. I didn't say they are not fine, I said their role is not what blizzard designed them for which creates confusion. They kinda hoped they are full-tanks yet everyone plays them as bruiser because on that role they are much better or even the best in current HGC meta.

I don't think it will affect quests. I suspect warriors will be divided into tanks and bruisers, but but both will still be considered "warriors" for quests. Healers and supports will likely both count for the "support" quest", etc.
