Battle of Dazar'alor Boss Guides » Opulence Guide

Opulence is a boss encounter in the Battle of Dazar'alor raid in World of Warcraft. Our strategy guide will help you to defeat the Opulence encounter and the loot listing below contains all of the loot he drops on each difficulty.

Overview

Opulence is an Alliance story encounter. Horde will experience this encounter via a flashback, and will be transformed to Alliance races for the duration of the encounter. All mechanics and abilities are the same for both factions.

Fight Basics

  • This is a two phase encounter requiring two tanks, and your raid to be split up into two even teams.
  • After phase one is complete you will pick up various jewels which give you powerful buffs.
  • Your raid will need to pre-plan who will pick up what jewels in order to optimally defeat this encounter.

Phase 1 - Defeating the Guardians
  • One team will go left and face The Hand of In'zashi while one will go right and face Yalat's Bulwark.
  • Each of the two construct guardians will use the ability Crush.
  • The construct will raise one of its arm, and two seconds later slam it down on that side in front of them.
  • If the construct raises both arms, it will hit directly in front of them. Simply step out of the way of Crush.
  • Players facing The Hand of In'zashi will have to deal with Volatile Charge. This debuff lasts 8 seconds before expiring and performing a point-blank AoE to all players within ~5 yards. It also leaves an orb behind that pulses damage.
  • Yalat's Bulwark will cast Flames of Punishment. This is a 7 second channeled cast that does fire AoE in a cone. The construct will also spin while doing this.
  • Every 10% HP, the mini-bosses will move to the next room. The rooms themselves have traps in them which must be avoided.
    • 100 to 90 - No Traps
    • 90 to 80 - Flame Jets - several jets will prepare to fire flame that fills the room in a straight line. Players must move out of this.
    • 80 to 70 - Ruby Beam - a laser will fixate on a random player leaving magma on the ground. This must be kited.
    • 70 to 60 - Pulse-Quickening Toxin - this is a soft enrage of constant ticking nature damage that must be healed.
    • 60 to 50 - Hex of Lethargy - a debuff that deals damage when you move. It can be dispelled. Beams also happen again.
    • 50 to 40 - Flame Jet & Ruby Beam at the same time.
    • 40 to 30 - Jewels - each player must select and pick up a Jewel in this room, granting them a buff for the rest of the fight. On Heroic, picking up a jewel gives you a debuff called Thief's Bane which deals deadly shadow damage after 30 seconds.
    • 30 to dead - No traps in this final chamber, but on Heroic difficulty the constructs overload empowering their abilities.

Phase 2 - Opulence
  • Opulence will use several abilities in this final phase.
  • Liquid Gold will debuff random players for 12 seconds and deal damage. Upon expiring it will leave a pool of gold that does damage.
  • The boss will summon eight Spirit of Gold adds on a timer that will attempt to walk to the edge of the room. If they reach the edge they will begin dealing heavy damage to the raid.
  • Opulence will also channel Wail of Greed on a timer. This does shadow damage to the raid and grants him one stack of Greed. This increases his damage done by 25%, and is the soft enrage of the encounter.
  • You must kill the boss before he gets too many stacks of Greed, and one shots the raid.
  • On Heroic difficulty, the tanks will be hit with Coin Sweep which removes the shield from their Jewel instantly.
  • Also on Heroic, random players will be debuffed with Coin Shower which does deadly damage if not split with other players.

Strategies by Role

All Roles

  • Know ahead of time what jewel you plan to pickup.
  • More mobile players should be placed in the team that will go right to face Yalat's Bulwark.
  • In Phase 2, the raid should stack directly behind the boss unless moving for a mechanic.
  • On Heroic, in the final room of Phase 1, Volatile Charge orbs will be much larger, and must be dropped wisely. Additionally the Flames of Punishements will take up all but a small portion of the room right behind the boss, requiring percise, rapid movement.

DPS

  • The jewels DPS have to choose from are:
    • Ruby - this increases the damage your target takes from all sources by 1%, stacking, for 6 seconds. At least two ranged should pick up this jewel.
    • Emerald - when standing still, you gain 1% increased damage, stacking, every second. Stacks are removed the more you move.
    • Opal - whenever you hit a new enemy, you gain 2% increased damage permanently.
    • Topaz - roughly every second you stand alone, gain a stack of Incadescence. At 100 stacks gain Grossly Incadescent which is an aura graning nearby players 100% critical strike.

Healers

  • The jewels Healers can choose are:
    • Amethyst - increases haste by 50% and causes all your healing to apply Shadow-Touched, which reduces the targets shadow damage taken by 90% for 1 minute. This is essential that a couple raid healers have this jewel.
    • Sapphire - all your healing spells give the target Tailwinds, which increases their damage done by 5% for 30 seconds. At five stacks, the player gains a 100% damage and healing boost for 12 seconds.
  • On Heroic, once a player picks up a jewel and gets debuffed with Theif's Bane, a healer using the Amethyst jewel must heal them before the debuff expires, or they will die.

Tanks

  • Tanks can only select the Diamond from the jewel room, which absorbs 50% of all damage, up to 300% of the player's max HP.
  • When this shield breaks, it will re-apply 30 seconds later.
  • Tanks should taunt off one another when the shield depletes, ensuring the active tank always has the shield up.
  • On heroic, a tank with a fresh shield will need to taunt when Coin Sweep is cast, along with popping a major defensive.

Mythic Opulence Strategy Guide

  • On Mythic difficulty, during Phase 1, the boss will cast Chatoic Displacement. This causes one player in each team to be swapped to the other side after 6 seconds.
  • In Phase 2, the puddles of Molten Gold dropped on the ground from Liquid Gold will buff adds that enter them, increasing their movement speed and healing them.
  • Enhancing the Liquid Gold mechanic further, Opulence will cast Surging Gold which increases the size of all Molten Gold pools by 100% for roughly 30 seconds.
  • A more detailed Mythic strategy will be available once Mythic raids open.
