In Rise of Azshara, we’re introducing a new system for the Heart of Azeroth that will provide additional power customization options: Essences. You’ll collect these Essences by taking part in a variety of content, and infuse them into the Heart of Azeroth using the new Heart Forge in Silithus, giving you access to new abilities and bonuses.

The Speaker’s Quest Continues
Once you’ve established a new hub in Nazjatar, one of the new areas in Rise of Azshara, you’ll receive a summons from Magni to join him at the Chamber of Heart. There, you’ll learn that MOTHER has completed her calculations related to what's plaguing Azeroth, and determined a way to heal her well ahead of her original 77-cycle estimate. New forms of power have begun to coalesce and manifest around Azeroth’s wounds, and MOTHER has discovered that these “Essences” are compatible with the Heart of Azeroth. To make use of them, she has created a new device in the Chamber of Heart that can harness that incredible power: the Heart Forge.

The Essence of the Heart Forge
The Heart Forge lets players infuse their Heart of Azeroth with Essences to grant new combat-related powers. Once you’ve collected a new Essence—obtained by participating in a wide variety of content—you’ll head to the Heart Forge to infuse your Heart of Azeroth with it, “learning” the Essence and permanently adding it to your collection. Much like Talents, once you’ve learned an Essence, you’ll be able to apply it or swap it out through a new Heart of Azeroth interface within rest areas, cities, or when using items such as the Tome of Quiet Mind.

Each Essence has both Major (generally active) and Minor (passive) abilities. Upon completing the initial quest from Magni, you’ll open a single Major slot in the Heart of Azeroth. Placing an Essence in the Major slot grants you that Essence’s Major active ability, which is added to your Spellbook. You’ll also gain the benefit of any Minor passive abilities from the Essence.

There are also two additional Minor slots in the Heart of Azeroth that will activate the Minor (passive) abilities of any Essences added to them. The first Minor slot will become available at Heart of Azeroth level 55, and the second Minor slot will become available at Heart of Azeroth level 65.

In Essence
Essences are acquired from a variety of content in Battle for Azeroth. You’ll earn your first one by completing the quest line with Magni, but you’ll be able to earn others through completing specific activities, such as PvP, raids, or World Quests.

Each Essence has four ranks that provide new effects. Rank 1 provides a unique ability based on your role (damage dealer, tank, or healer), while rank 2 and rank 3 provide enhancements to both the Essence’s Major and Minor effects. Rank 4 adds a flashier cosmetic effect to the spell, providing a unique visual that will make you stand out from the crowd. Once an Essence is learned, you’ll be able to hover your mouse over the Essence in the user interface to see what you get with the next rank. And because of how Essences are collected, it’s possible to receive and infuse a rank 3 Essence without having learned rank 1 or 2.

It’s important to note that while many Essences are role-agnostic, some of these are only usable by a specific role (tank, healer, or damage dealer). Characters who can spec into multiple roles can collect any Essences that are appropriate for those roles, but the system will restrict characters from collecting Essences meant for roles their class can’t fill—for example, a Warrior couldn’t collect a healer Essence.

More Azerite Gear Ahead?
Essences add a whole new layer to the Heart of Azeroth system, in addition to the Azerite Armor that you already have. With all the content coming in Rise of Azshara, there’s are sure to be some new Traits to discover and gear to collect along the way.

Classic as a game will not succeed in this day and age of video gaming. Even if it did, what do you think the plan is with classic once all the "classic" content has been consumed?

I bet a lot of people are expecting Blizzard to essentially create a second development team "recreating" WoW, which is absurd.
Is this what you tell to people who played Vanilla for over tens years, too?

To me the RPG aspects were important to the game. Without them I don't care for WoW. And retail has nothing to offer in that aspect. Now, Vanilla on the other hand... clunky, sure, but fills in both the MMO and RPG aspects - and got a much more satisfying reward system.

i wont lie. when forums thought that its just gonna be legion artifact talent tree system it sounded good to me.

this is just garbage filled with unnesesary farm .

seems horrible and it will end badly once idiots in game start demanding fully unlocked necks for mythic 0 .

the only this that could salvage it in my eyes if they made it account wide system -_- when unlocking it on main automatickly unlocks it on alts.

all those juicy $$$$$ from tokens yum yum yum
Mythic crybabies? You and tge other ignorant moron are the only ones cryinh. Wahh I cant get the best things from my afk warfront wah i have to put in effort to be rewarded wah.

Imagine actually thinking people want to sell mythic runs when the reality is they do it to support raiding. Dumbass.

they need to make some traits like the old set pieces and that would be fine. im sure everyone would agree they were at least fun and cool and you wanted to get a full set.

I didn't expect a complete overhaul halfway into the expansion. This doesn't look that fun or exciting, but I'd take anything over the current Azerite system we have now.

It is just getting more and more idiotic.

This awful shit azerite/essence system is 10 times worse than the glyph system we had 10 years ago, with 10 times more farming and grinding.

Who'd hell in Blizzard thinks this shit is exciting???

Most guilds sell mythic runs just to pay for subscriptions or buy themselves expensive in game shit. I've never encountered a guild that used it purely to support raiding.

This does not look good... I hope I am wrong.

Are they going to bump everyone's HoA up to the minimum level of 55 at the start of 8.2 via a short quest? If not then I will probably never see 55, as I only raid heroic and do an occasional M+. Once I reached exalted with everyone (except tortallan) I couldn't be bothered doing world quests anymore. I couldn't justify the time needed to reward gained for the crappy inner rings. Fingers crossed.

Cry more about people enjoying other aspects of the game that are not mythic raiding.

Hell yeah man, an essence that was "Fireball deals 10% more damage" would be a hell of a lot more interesting.

Also, you should look at wowhead. They have dozens of other essences listed, Including class specific ones. But this is MMO champion. Keep on complaining just because.

Feel free to link the class specific traits? Presumably you mean the offensive cd proc/cd reduction trait, which does exactly the same thing for every single class that uses it, so not really class specific at all?

the dps one looks pretty dull. oh, wow, an on use trinket basically (which everyone hates) that does nothing to change up gameplay like legendaries, af weapons or tier sets did. sure, glad those are gone...

So are there new ways to get AP coming with the system as well? I'll probably hit 50 tomorrow, but seeing traits unlock at 55 and 65? Thats gonna take another 3-4 months

Hmmm I wonder how old an average WoW developer is... have any of them been alive when good games existed? I wonder why they think this would appeal to anyone?

    Here's one for Prot Pally:
    "Memory of Lucid Dreams
Clear your mind and attune yourself with Heart of Azeroth, increasing your Mana generation rate by 100%, and your Leech by 874, for 10 sec.
Shield of the Righteous recharge time reduced by 50%"

I'll assume on a Prot Warrior this becomes something to do with Rage generation (highly dobutful it'd be 100% increase though) and reduces recharge on Shield Block.

So it's not the "exact same", hence it's class specific.

Got excited for legion style legendary affixes. Got fairly disappinted since this is BFA.

So this is supposed to fix all the broken classes, eh? I guess BFA wont be saved by 8.2 after all. What a surprise.

Looks like a cool update. Way better than 8.1.

Can't wait to unlock flying for that mount.

This was suppose to be an overhaul, but its not. Its another layer. So instead of them dumping Azerite Armor concept in favor of Heart of Azerite style Artifact / Path of Titan they're just adding another layer of restrictive grinding with restrictive choice. More layers of makeup to disguise the ugliness beneath.
Just like when they said rings/amulets/trinkets would have more variety instead of just generic statsticks they lied and made it near-impossible to target single-secondary stat pieces while making "interesting" choices none-choice because they removed player abilities scaling item effects outside PPM.
Nobody wants Azerite Armor. It was a flop. Get rid of it. Take a knee.

These devs hate player contingency. They don't want players having meaningful choice. They also feign ignorance to avoid consequence for their own choices. "Do as I say, not as I do."

Tired of this fucking doublespeak. Who are they appealing to? Sure as hell isn't the playerbase. Who are these fictional stockholder entities that do and provide nothing but accumulate intellectual property yet paying customers have zero input? All this crap does is fuel the clown-world meme.
