Loot Trading in Classic Update

We saw some confusion about a specific part of this post so we want to be clear that Customer Service will NOT be transferring items in WoW Classic and the system that we outlined will be in the players’ hands. If we were to go down the road of developing a policy on item trading, we believe it would end up allowing the exact same kind of abuse that we are trying to minimize with the 2-hour trade window system which we outlined in the original post.

Ninja looting does have consequences in the community and those who do it will have trouble getting invited to group. In other words: your reputation will matter. Remember to play nice, play fair folks!

They’re expecting too much of players to care about their “reputation” or that people will actually play nice 100% of the time.

this beats some guy keeping the item then paging a GM to hand it to their friend. Ninjaing will happen far less than handing items under the table to a friend. Most people will reserve items and create the group around that.

That's odd. It's almost like they are encouraging on naming and shaming if a ninja looter is encountered. And on trade chat most of all and multiple times over a longer time, if reputation is supposed to matter. But then again, most would not take such people seriously who accuse others without proof.

Did you not play vanilla wow?

Ninja looters and assholes in general will be completely shunned by their entire realm. No groups, no friends, nothing. This is Vanilla, EVERYONE on your realm will know. There are no xfers, name changes, RDF or LFR.

Play nice or be shunned, make your choice. *starts 60 second timer*

Uh god, 2h -giff an item to your friend- will be abused SO HARD in the early weeks. People thinking it won't be happening or actually groups of ~3 will be caring about 2 randoms who need the item are straight up dellusional. Thinking that those ninjas won't get into raids later on is ever more dellusional with raids requiring 40PPL to be present(actually they do not but w/e).

Only raid loot will be able to be traded in Classic WoW.

Ninja looting in raids is only possible if your raid leader is a complete idiot so it's a non-issue.

Well assuming it's like vanilla and there isn't cross realm content, I think most people will realize very quickly that people remember assholes. I can't recall how often some jerk was blacklisted back in the day. I kept a spreadsheet back in the day of all the assholes I came across and would make comments next to them reminding me what they did. Every time I was in a raid and saw one of them, I'd let the raid leader know and they'd give them a swift kick.

It's almost like people forget that vanilla was realm only, so if someone wants to be an asshole, they can afford the realm transfer when people start ignoring them.

Anyone who played vanilla remembers, regardless of the size of you server, you'll get a bad reputation in no time for being a piece of shit. Follow the rules set up at the start of the run

Anyone that played Vanilla also remembers that regardless of being a piece of shit, it really never amounted to anything bad.

I'd really like for them to share their current plans for servers next. How many servers, player cap, server names. It'll be fun to start making actual plans wrangling different groups of friends to one server. h y p e

What's wrong with that? Might not be ideal, but at least it's upfront. Would you rather it be reserved without your knowledge?

If you're going for those two specific items, then don't join. All sides win.

Vanilla had the same "community" that would listen to hearsay all the time in blacklisting people. Did you question the raid leader giving preferential treatment to officers and/or significant other? They'd get their entire posse of friends to start shit against you and get you blacklisted on a server because people are sheep. For every positive community story about Vanilla there's just as many if not more toxic stories.

Indicates small server sizes as reputation doesn't matter on large servers

It depended on realms I reckon for I can recall a pretty list of aholes on my server that NEVER got invites to anything, real fast after beign especially a ninja looter. That thing spreaded like wildfire back in the day. My guild in itself shared names of these amongst it members.

That is one perspective to look at it, however there's a also that perspective that the blue posted about. That's community will matter, who you are, what you do with other players will have consequences. It's not supposed to be progressive because 14 years ago the internet behaved very differently and without it, that aspect of the community, if it does not exist it will not be vanilla. Rather a very poor imitation, I think a lot of people who reminisces will remember that feeling and welcome it.

On Stormrage and stormreaver after it split off from stormrage It mattered. We had a few known ninja's that got blacklisted by the whole server and had to transfer off. A lot of us came from FFXI where it was even harsher with no server transfer or name change possible there to avoid the fallout.
