Patch 8.2 PTR - Benthic Gear Preview
Patch 8.2 introduces Benthic gear, which is catch up gear similar to the unsullied and relinquished gear from Argus. However, there is a little more to it than that.

  • Nazjatar introduces a new currency called Prismatic Manapearl, which is obtained through many different methods while questing and exploring the zone.
  • Benthic gear can be purchased from a vendor in your faction's Nazjatar hub for 5 Prismatic Manapearl each.
    • Alliance - Artisan Itanu
    • Horde - Finder Palta

  • Benthic gear starts at item level 385.
  • Benthic gear can also be obtained from world quests and the Nazjatar emissary.

  • List of Benthic Gear:
  • There are no weapons, rings, or trinkets via Benthic gear. However, these items can be obtained through Mechagon content.
  • Benthic gear can be upgraded all the way to item level 425 via Voidbinder Zorlan (H) or Voidbinder Sturzah (A):

    • These NPCS operate much like the gear upgrade Ethereal from Pandaria. Instead of Justice points, however, you use Prismatic Manapearl.
    • The first time you upgrade a piece of Benthic gear it costs 20 Prismatic Manapearl and upgrades the item by 15 item levels, changing it to a Pearled Benthic piece of gear.
    • All further upgrades to Pearled Benthic gear cost the following:
      • Non Azerite Armor Pearled Benthic gear upgrades by 5 item levels up to 425, and costs 10 Prismatic Manapearl each upgrade.
      • Azerite Armor Pearled Benthic gear upgrades by 15 and costs 15 Prismatic Manapearl per upgrade.
  • Benthic gear have predetermined stats, meaning there is no RNG to which stats you will get on each slot.
  • Benthic gear also have useful special abilities on certain slots:
    • Cloaks
      • Trader's Stock - You have access to Murloc traders' special stocks.
      • Fishy Fiends - You have a chance to loot a random fish from creatures in Nazjatar and The Eternal Palace.
      • Frost Resistance - Frost damage taken is reduced by 2% while in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace.
      • Resurrect Health - Increases health gained when resurrected by 30% while in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace.
    • Feet
    • Gloves
      • Shadow Resistance - Shadow damage taken is reduced by 2% while in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace.
      • Elemental Instincts - You are more likely to find strange resources related to Mardivas.
      • Carnivore of the Deep - While in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace, your critical strikes have a chance to heal you for 0 over 10 sec.
    • Legs
      • Seabed Runner - Your Speed is increased by 95 while in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace.
      • Swimmer's Legs - You are 5% larger while in Nazjatar and The Eternal Palace.
      • Hatred of Her Court - Heal for 0 after killing a Naga in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace.
    • Waist
    • Wrists
      • Intra-Ocean Navigation - Your swim speed is increased in Nazjatar and The Eternal Palace.
      • Frost Resistance - Frost damage taken is reduced by 2% while in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace.
      • Eel-ectrified Defenses - When taking damage in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace, you have a chance to deal 0 damage to the attacker and slow them for 15% for 5 sec.
      • Exploding Pufferfish - While in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace, your spells and abilities have a chance to summon a pufferfish that explodes 3 sec later, dealing 0 damage to targets within 8 yards.

Raid Testing Schedule - May 9th - 10th

Thursday, May 9th
Abyssal Commander Sivara - Heroic Eternal Palace
13:00 PDT (16:00 EDT, 22:00 CEST)

Lady Ashvane - Heroic Eternal Palace
14:00 PDT (17:00 EDT, 23:00 CEST)

Friday, May 10th
Orgozoa - Heroic Eternal Palace
13:00 PDT (16:00 EDT, 22:00 CEST)

Radiance of Azshara - Heroic Eternal Palace
14:00 PDT (17:00 EDT, 23:00 CEST)

As always, this testing schedule is very fluid and subject to the realities of a test environment. We might have to change the time of a testing session, change the bosses being tested, or cancel a test entirely, due to bugs, server hardware issues, etc. Keep an eye on this forum for the latest information, and thank you in advance for testing and providing feedback.

Q: How do I get into the raid zone?
A: In Zuldazar, Boralus, Dalaran, Orgrimmar, or Stormwind, you may speak to Nexus-Lord Donjon Rade III in order to teleport into the raid zone while it is open for testing. (The option to teleport into a zone will not be available when the zone is not open for testing.)

Q: What character should I use to test the raid?
A: Whichever you prefer. We will be scaling players’ effective level to 120 for raid testing, and their item level to an appropriate threshold for the encounter(s) being tested.

Q: How long does testing last?
A: The primary purpose of testing is to give us the information we need to balance the encounters, evaluate how mechanics are playing out in practice, and identify bugs. Once we’re satisfied that we’ve received that information for a given boss, we’ll be shutting down testing. Usually this takes anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, but there are no guarantees.

I bet you have 430 ilvl before you get each piece from the vendor
Probably a bit who knows, the one thing I have heard is that they are not littering the new zones with world quests, rather you get three quests each day to do and that is it.. Though I think the other way to get the new currency is by killing the rares..

Just like we eventually could beat MC without mindcontroling those guys and fire res buffing the raid or without Onyxia's / Nefarian's head up in Orgrimmar etc etc...but at the beginning it sure helped.

Then again, there were examples where the guilds with lower average ilv won etc....

No matter what, the guilds that seriously think they have a chance of competing will likely do ANYTHING that they consider as a benefit in the competition.
Yeah, ofc I meant in order to achieve the world first ( don't really care about those who will achieve it after nerfs or better equipment ).
It seems like the old good AQ, when instead of trying the bosses the players were forced to obtain NR gear.

Seems like a way to timegate, but maybe I am just overthinking.

Why can't they just add gear as visible items to the vendor when there is still the option to filter items for your spec only? They did it in TBC already. Is it some kind of database thing, which saves someone 1 hour of development time from copy-pasting items to the vendors spreadsheet?
The stats are fixed. I assume they did tokens so that they did not have to put cloth mail leather plate on the vendor, it will be the armor type of the toon that uses it. I am curious, if the head shoulders chest are azerite items or just items with secondary stats.

Probably they won't be azerite items, also given the fact that head, shoulders and chest are the only 3 slots which doesn't give a new bonus.

430 should be heroic of azshara eternal palace unless they jump higher with the ilvl, but if it cannot socket it won't be worth as much.
It will be a heroic loot? damn the more i hear the more i like it.

Oh no, it's just your assumption ( I didn't like it before, and so do I now ).

We also will have to see when the raid will be open ( I didn't read anything about, but I doubt bliz would like to release too much content altogether. Won't definitelybe good for them ).

It's a little bit early for catch-up gear.. Let people go through the motions of WQs/m0 and LFR, etc.

The gearing system at least looks better than Timeless Isle's. It's similar, but you can target slots, which is incredibly appreciated.

The BoA upgrade tokens are also interesting, cuz if you have large numbers of alts you do the Nazjatar dailies on you can funnel upgrades to one character, if you want.

It's not early. This is the equivalent patch to 7.2, which had catch-up gear, and 8.2 is going to be coming later than 7.2 did in Legion, in all likelihood.

That would be a bit of a gamble considering how many MAU's they are losing atm.

They don’t want to let the casino system go away as it keeps people playing and playing until they finally get a shot to their new token. It’s like what you had for your boss loot before but extended to all in game rewards.

If 430 is heroic gear then that will probably be the gear you get for completing Mythic+10. So yeah, if you run enough Mythic+ dungeons you can be at 430 in the first ID.

It's pretty accurate. I'll never play BFA again. I will play classic, though, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Is the bent dick gear just more RNG stats?

Why does this feel so much like an Argus patch, but we know there's supposed to be an 8.3...?

Seems a bit unusual that there's Azerite slots among the Benthic gear. I wonder if they will have decent traits or not, since they're not random.
