Azshara Raid Testing, Patch 8.2 PTR - Build 30495

Gnome and Tauren Mount Size Update

With today’s PTR update, you might notice mount size changes for gnome and tauren player characters. For a very long time, we’ve had issues that stem from gnomes and tauren riding on mounts that appear larger than intended. We’re adjusting their sizing down on normal* mounts.

This allows us to correct many art and animation bugs with these specific races when mounted, and they look better. Gnomes and tauren now look more like they should, gnomes can actually reach their reins, and tauren can fit through more doorways when mounted.

Here’s an example of how a gnome character looks when mounted-

Before the change-

And after the change-

This new tech also means that it’s now possible for us to address issues where some mounts are too small on some races. We’re looking to find examples along those lines, so please keep your feedback coming.

Thank you!

*There are a few mounts that are not considered "normal"-sized to begin with. For example, Hyena mounts are considered "small", and we’re not sizing tauren differently on small mounts at this time.

BFA is just removing more and more as it goes on. Amazing.

Fixing the important issues. I guess this is a sign that they have given up on class design issues?

What exactly is being removed, slugger? Nothing... Nothing is being "removed" nothing is being "cut" nothing is being "Taken Away". Some people, I swear, just want to make mountains out of every little molehill.

Is it silly? Yeah, its a silly change to finally be making after almost 15 years. Seems like a pretty darn late "fix", which is exactly what it is.

RIP my outrageously large mount that fit through nothing.

Oh look the stereotypical post where someone goes on about why this change is bad since x thing didn't get worked on even though the team that worked on y thing has nothing at all to do with x.

this is not appealing. some of my tauren mounts, even the medium sized ones will not have that same cool feeling that I enjoy. bumming me out

Sheeeet, our bad thinking a multi billion dollar company that has a game out for more than 15 years will do their damn jobs.

I'm actually fine with this. Never did make much sense that gnomes had one of the largest mounts as well as it being "ok" that they couldn't reach the reigns. As for Tauren, hopefully it will cut down on the Kaiju mounts.

i quite like this for the tauren. it makes my character look bigger. but i really liked the oversized mount for the gnome. :[

Worst expansion in the game's history and they're spending resources on making it WORSE?

how are you people complaining about something that wasnt even an intentional feature to begin with lmao literally why would gnomes have some of the biggest mounts in the game? it looks bizarre playing them i'm glad they're finally changing it

Well good thing the art team is doing their job is making mounts look better.

So they're "fixing" something that no one asked for, that's been around since Vanilla. Similar to how they recently "fixed" portals and are "fixing" mounts by adding mount equipment that eliminates the specialness of the water strider. What's next fun or QOL thing that they're going to "fix"?
