Level Squish Survey
Reddit user Nivens reported that they received an interesting survey from Blizzard regarding an upcoming level squish. The wording of this survey makes it seem that a level squish is already slated to happen sometime in the future. This has not been confirmed by Blizzard.

During a previous Battle for Azeroth Q&A on Twitch, Ion Hazzikostas said the team was exploring the idea of a level squish, as new players may be deterred by seeing such high levels needed to reach the endgame. You can watch the full answer to the level squish question here, where they discuss the pros and cons

it all depends on 1 - whether it will be:

    1) only level squish and time spent leveling staying the same because otherwise they wouldnt sell as many boosts

    2) they do level squish and also cut down leveling time by half.

eitherway its a huge disservice towards people who have many alts just because few not so smart people are intimidated by numbers like 100 or 120.

I mean what is the actual point? it isn't like it's going to take any less time to hit max level. if they squish it to 60 they will still maintain the amount of xp needed to hit 120. so it's not going to save time or anything. complete waste of time doing it

I hate the idea of a level squish. It's an arbitrary number than will take the same amount of time no matter if it's 60 or 120. Sure a level might feel more rewarding, but it will drag on twice as long til you get your next ding. Even still, there will be some levels you don't get anything.

Not that it is particularly relevant, but I have been since Oct 2018, just doesn't always get posted from my account though.

The one thing I can't understand is why would it deter new players from reaching the end game? Not only do you get to trial any damn class you like, you also get a free boost to 110 with the expansion (and probably 120 by the end of BFA), so you only have to level 10 levels if you're new. Yeah, it's kind of shit for alts, but new players wouldn't of done the old content multiple times like the rest of the wow veterans have, so that too in theory should be a non issue.

Have a bunch of alts am absolutely in favor of a squish as long as time spent is squished as well.

If the level squish is coupled by wider scaling ranges it could be pretty cool. Imagine going from the Barrens to Hellfire, then to Borean Tundra and later all the way back to Silverpine. Newer players could explore wherever they wanted when they wanted to.

I legit just don't understand why they can't just invest in a WoW2 or another MMO at this point instead of continuing to lower stats and levels every expansion essentially destroying the entire point of an MMO which is to increase your characters power.

Think about it this way, they continually put more and more time into fixing and adjusting the current game engine instead of putting that effort into building a new one...

How is that a disservice? Is that the classic "I had to do it so they should have to, too" argument you're making? And it's not about someone being intimidated by 110-120, it's about a level 1 being intimidated by the slow, tedious leveling process from 1-120+ A "level squish" would mean those 120 levels get dropped to 50 for example. How the exp and all the zones works I don't know. I'd imagine you can pick your zones and the process is overall quicker, otherwise it's just smoke and mirrors and defeats the entire purpose.

The wording of "Are you aware that the maximum level of 120 will be reduced in the future" makes this seem like total bullshit. No one outside of blizzard can answer that question with a yes, because no one knew about this. In addition to that, why would they reveal a pretty crucial selling point for the expansion this comes in with a survey.

Former Blizzard CM Yisthens had a decent perspective on it that he mentioned on twitter: https://twitter.com/CadenHouse/statu...07256166133760

I hate the idea of the level squish too, though I still think that the ultimate evil in WoW is mob scaling.

Yeah I agree. It's time for them to start working on WoW 2 instead of trying to milk a game that's 15 years old.
