WoW Classic - Phase 2 Launches in 2019
According to an article on PC Gamer, which will release in its entirety next week, Ion Hazzikostas revealed that Phase 2 will launch before the end of the year. Factors that affect the final release date include ending layering and having population stabilization before the release of the world bosses. Ion expects layering to end within a matter of weeks. We will have a link to the full interview when it is posted.

Realm Layering Update – EU

Over the five weeks since we launched WoW Classic, we’ve continuously monitored realm populations and utilized layering when necessary to handle launch populations. As we’ve said before, we will have all realms on a single layer before introducing world bosses, and a great deal of progress has been made toward that goal.

First and foremost, players have leveled up and spread out around the world. This allowed us to accommodate more players per layer, which means fewer layers required per realm. The last time a server in this region had more than three layers was the first week of September, and almost all realms reached two layers shortly after that.

Along the way, some select realms reached their end-state of a single layer, and we locked that in. With a change we made earlier this week, the following WoW Classic realms are now permanently set to one layer:

  • Bloodfang
  • Dragonfang
  • Earthshaker
  • Hydraxian Waterlords
  • Judgement
  • Ten Storms

Be on the lookout for another change that we will make in the coming days: soon, realms that are operating with more than one layer will indicate that on the realm selection screen. Those realms will say “Layered” in the realm list. Thereafter, you’ll only see the Full/High/Medium/Low markers for realms that are permanently set to one layer.

We plan to move more realms to a single layer over time, and we will continue to offer free character moves to balance populations and manage login queues. In order to avoid queues in the future, we encourage you to use that service as soon as possible.

Thank you very much!

    Where? When has this happened?

They typically don't make any changes in the holiday season. Very few places do. I would expect before the end of the year to mean shortly after Thanksgiving.

Oh yeah, my server was "full" last night when I logged on. There were several more that were full. It's difficult to quest due to all the people around you leveling/stealing mobs in STV. It's booming in my experience. Completely packed to the gills on my server. My server is Kirtonos, and even with a terrible name like that it is still full, lol.

Vanilla Private Server didn't survived 12+ years for no reason.

Legion was promised "in summer", and it came out the last day of August. WC3 remastered was promised "before then end of 2019", and it's looking like it's gonna be literally the final days of 2019.

Moving much too slow, classic should have released with DM and Honor/BGs

Kromcrush is also packed, and suddenly "full" last night after weeks of "high" pop. Quest zones are packed. There wasn't a mob left alive in Blasted Lands at 8AM this morning, I mean, wtf.
It certainly seems that they're rushing this all of a sudden. They had no problem letting all the people racing to 60 exploit the shit outta layering to farm mats, get epic mounts, etc; but they sure don't seem interested in letting the rest of us use it as it was actually intended.

    Is August not in summer?

They’re removing layers, as was the plan from the start. When you remove layers, max capacity can no longer be artificially inflated I would imagine.

I don't think it should have launched with BGs but they should have been in Phase 2. It was an attempt to appease people who think world PvP died with BGs (people who somehow forget that classic/vanilla forces you into world PvP situations regardless).

Because it was an underground phenomenon and suffered because you could lose your character at any second when the server gets shutdown by Blizzard.

That's how the servers stay "high" or "full". Let's say 10 layers to start, they're "full". When pop drops 10%, they remove a layer and it remains "full" all the way down until it is collapsed to a single layer. In this scenario, there has been a 90% population reduction, but the server stayed "full" the entire time. It's only after layering is removed will "high" or "full" actually mean anything.

Definitely AT LEAST your option, the game existed for a whopping 2 months out of it's whole lifespan with Honor but no BGs.

1.4 with Honor came out April 8, 2005
1.5 with AV and WSG came out June 7, 2005

as it stands there was zero reason to spread them out so much, we'll probably have 3+ months after honor that bgs are coming out and that's going to mess with things.

I honestly just wish DM was out already, MC is boring

Except it used to be 5 layers with that many people, and now it is 1. Population down significantly, just removing layers so you don't notice.

People that are saying populations are down obviously haven't been playing. All of the new servers are going to high pop or full and the old servers are staying at full. The classic servers are becoming overpopulated and soon enough they will have to increase the server account again.

So as people think that others are leaving classic the opposite is true. Retail is losing the race at this point for keeping active users, as it seems people only have an account active right now because of classic. Plus there are actual new players starting in classic.

because THOSE SERVERS atleast had progression and PVP out Day1
Classic is a clusterfuck made for Discord Trolls with no defense, and spamming Ad hominem memes to claim that they are right...

also Servers like westfall and such claim that they are high, but the higher lvl zones like the plaguelands, winterspring and un goro are incredibly desert with 10 or so players in the map, if not, nobody leveling.

the Layering system is so bad, that later leveling zones are almost empty due to it.
it may work perfectly for "early leveling" but it shouldn't Even exist from lvl 20 zones and onwards.
leveling in these zones were made to be done in groups but the system kills it.

Man, you guys couldn’t even let the discussion go for a single page before claiming Classic has “defeated” retail? I’m disappointed.
