WoW Classic - Phase 2 Launches in 2019
According to an article on PC Gamer, which will release in its entirety next week, Ion Hazzikostas revealed that Phase 2 will launch before the end of the year. Factors that affect the final release date include ending layering and having population stabilization before the release of the world bosses. Ion expects layering to end within a matter of weeks. We will have a link to the full interview when it is posted.

Realm Layering Update – EU

Over the five weeks since we launched WoW Classic, we’ve continuously monitored realm populations and utilized layering when necessary to handle launch populations. As we’ve said before, we will have all realms on a single layer before introducing world bosses, and a great deal of progress has been made toward that goal.

First and foremost, players have leveled up and spread out around the world. This allowed us to accommodate more players per layer, which means fewer layers required per realm. The last time a server in this region had more than three layers was the first week of September, and almost all realms reached two layers shortly after that.

Along the way, some select realms reached their end-state of a single layer, and we locked that in. With a change we made earlier this week, the following WoW Classic realms are now permanently set to one layer:

  • Bloodfang
  • Dragonfang
  • Earthshaker
  • Hydraxian Waterlords
  • Judgement
  • Ten Storms

Be on the lookout for another change that we will make in the coming days: soon, realms that are operating with more than one layer will indicate that on the realm selection screen. Those realms will say “Layered” in the realm list. Thereafter, you’ll only see the Full/High/Medium/Low markers for realms that are permanently set to one layer.

We plan to move more realms to a single layer over time, and we will continue to offer free character moves to balance populations and manage login queues. In order to avoid queues in the future, we encourage you to use that service as soon as possible.

Thank you very much!

All I wanted was the bickering to stop. Once Blizzard announced they were gonna do Classic, I no longer had a horse in the race, and stopped investing in it (And I really only was going by what Blizzard themselves were saying, not that it was bad to want it). I figured, hey, now both sides get the game they want, and the arguing and slap fights would stop.

Boy, was I wrong. It only got worse.

Yeah, nothing like Classic fans, who are always so mature and composed, only using true facts and stats straight from Blizzard to prove the superiority of "their" game.

    It's intolerable sometimes.

Really? Today on my end it looked like 80% of my WoW playing friendlist have been logged into classic. I neither play classic nor BfA...so I'm strictly neutral on that one.
I expected the numbers to crumble way faster and am seriously surprised. I'd like to see how shocked they are at Blizz headquarters about that success...and watch them figure out how to deal with it now and work with it in the future(cause it's saying a lot about retail and that something went wrong there. Possibly too many time sinks and too much monetarization while ruining any sense of community and "achievement". But that is just my opinion.).

Why is there so much hatred for Retail vs Classic? I play on Retail mainly and play Classic sometimes, and I don’t think you have to concentrate on Classic only just for proving the love. They are both official WoW.

It's taking people awhile to hit max, but once you're there, there's like nothing to do honestly. We actually kind of went back to retail til the next FF patch because we hit 60, did MC and Ony and the end game dungeons a bunch and after that there is zero to do.

Classic is drawing in more new players than retail. Classic doesn't need cross server layering to survive. Classic bas almost all of their servers staying at high or full now.

The only people that don't like classic are the ones who just like pooing on something they aren't good at. I'm sorry.

Do you have any idea how many more servers there are in retail? NA has like 200 servers alone.

I believe he's suggesting that classic is bringing more new players in not that it has more servers/people than retail.

The problem is that it’s a baseless claim without Blizzard officially giving profits and where those profits came from.

Yup. the retail server infrastructure is insane and can accommodate a tremendous amount of players.

August isn’t the end of summer, September is

There is no such thing as cross server layering. What Blizzard is doing as population stabilises is to move players within the same server to fewer layers.

Reducing layers already due to population decline...

Guess J Allen was right all along

    lol.

Some people legitimately spend more time screeching about how "their game" is better than the other and how the other is going to die soon than actually playing the game

I get that some people are quite retarded but even by those standards it's impressive at that point

Everyone is trying to force the community into 2 buckets: those who love classic and hate retail, and those who love retail and hate classic. It's naive to think that the majority of the WoW population fits into these buckets. Using your own friends and acquaintances are examples is also a bad practice, because the sample size is vastly too small to draw any meaningful conclusions. These forums are a great example of the extremely loud vocal minority

this so much this, both game are feeding each other, success Classic mean Retail still going, and same goes for Retail with Classic.

Classic it was a success for real, but the hype is dying down. I notice on my friend, how many have come back but after a couples of week alot of them have leave already.

Battlegrounds will be cross server, sadly.
