BlizzCon 2019 - Warcraft III: Reforged Deep Dive
Join developers from Warcraft III: Reforged as they discuss the creation process. Learn more about the game and its upcoming launch.

  • Adding Undead next week and Night Elf shortly after. 3v3 and FFA coming next week as well.
  • On the animation side, don't break what was originally there.
  • Time on the damage point on the animation had to match the original.
  • There is an attachment system on the characters, so the weapons can be attached to the character and projectiles can spawn from that weapon. The timing remains the same between both versions of the game. Projectiles will hit at the same time, but may look different.
  • Character animations and models could be updated, as technology has come a long way. Characters have fingers now, so they can wrap their fingers around the weapon.
  • A lot of the models in the original game were the same, just scaled up or tinted to show they are different. This time there are unique models for everything, over 2,200 models now!
  • The team had to make sure you can still recognize the silhouette. Some units had to be tweaked, as they were hard to recognize when in battle.
  • Blademaster had to be tweaked to change the run animation to be more similar to the original.
  • Single account system, race based MMR.
  • Different MMR for 2v2, 3v3, FFA.
  • Blizzard has learned a lot about matchmaking over the years. Hopefully good matchmaking will help new players have a good experience.
  • Team colored health bars. Old days had green health bars that were on or off, but now you can have them colored per team.
  • Special hero healthbars will make it easy to tell what unit is a hero.
  • The team wants feedback on how matchmaking is going.
  • The old chain sounds and other parts of the old UI will remain. The team will continue to improve on the UI as feedback comes in.
  • If you've pre-purchased, you'll get in to the Warcraft 3:Reforged beta.
  • Scary moment with SC:Remastered. Capped the framerate actually capped input, the pros noticed that input was being lost.
  • So far the beta still feels like Warcraft 3.
  • The team got involved with the current mapmaking community and figuring out what they were blocked by.
  • Before if you wanted to make an RPG map, you wanted to grant +5 health for completing a quest. You'd have to go into the map editor and make a ton of units with 5 more health. Now you can just change an individual unit's health.
  • The team put some community maps in the 1v1 map pool. The team wants to hear what the best community maps are so that they can include them.
  • You can control where your opponents will spawn
  • New camera tools for map makers. Tower Defense towers, new models, Orc/Dwarf carts, and more.
  • The team can't wait to see what the community will make with the new tools.
  • There are now High Elf swordsmen models.
  • Balance is an iterative process. Starcraft was hard to balance with 3 races, WC3 has 4!
  • Crystal Orb feedback mostly consisted of "Trash" and "Vendor". The team thought about making a big change, but thought it would take away from what it was. The real issue is that it was showing up too late. Scouting is really important early on.
  • By the end of the beta, you'll have everything in your hands from a multiplayer perspective.
  • The team knows people are here for cinematics and the campaign, so we got a little sneak peek.

Didn't they say "very soon" in the opening ceremony though? And as was mentioned, WC3:R has always had a listed release date of 12/31/2019 on the launcher which just means it'll release before the end of the year. That date still hasn't changed.

If anything they'd outright announce it if they actually expected they'd have to delay the release as most crowds tend to favour delaying release for additional polish.

I don't will pay a penny for it until it officially releases the same goes for that WoW Xpack, I don't pre-order anything... finish your game/xpack and I will think about buying the final product.

A bunch of content that I was looking forward to got cut. Oof, that's depressing, considering this is pretty much the only Blizzard title I was even remotely hyped about. Feels really bad, considering the punch in the gut that was Shadowlands yesterday.

If true, it's just a reskin.
They have changed the buildings of the Blood/High elves and Draenei to fit what is in WoW tho. They made Dalaran look like WOW models, they made Lordaeron buildings look like how they look on wow. They changed the Weapons of Illidan to his wow weapons. Etc Etc

From how I understood things they apparently scrapped the revamped Stratholme map with callbacks to WoW lore from last BlizzCon and using the camera from a ground view to make it more cinematic. They also scrapped re-recording the dialogue with the current voice actors to make it more in line with current WoW, which also rules out an altered script which would help fix some of the inconsistencies with modern lore because of the retcons. Another piece they scrapped was the remakings of the old cinematics like they did with the opening trailer from last year, so we're just getting the old ones with higher screen resolutions.

They also didn't give a delay notification at their biggest event, and they are legally bound to release in 2019 according to laws in the EU about pre-orders releasing within next calendar year.

    YOU do the math.

Until they come out and randomly say "It's delayed" stop assuming the worst. Fabricating things and bending facts to your will doesn't make you right.

Will be sure to come back soon and again in 20202 to see which "math" checked out for you.

Yeah, they rushed the release date, that's why this is happening. if they had 1 more year, then they would have made it before time run out. This is still pathetic and it is all lies now. Is this even legal? Hyping people up at Blizzcon by saying they add like everything to the game, make people pre-order and then 1 year later, just remove most of the features people were paying for!?

Apparently the reason they scrapped some of this stuff was because some people complained that it wasn't pure enough to the original story by mixing in WoW elements. Personally, I am not a fan of every lore decision Blizzard made with WoW (especially TBC), but I would not have minded some alterations to fix the more glaring retcons like the Draenei storyline on Draenor. Frankly, WC3 has not really been that much retconned when it comes to the missions and most of the dialogue. It's mostly when WC3 refers to various backstories like the origin of the Broken Isles, the War of the Ancients, and the Draenei when things truly get messy.

Fixing those issues while making the maps look more like how Azeroth looks like in WoW would be more than fine additions in my eyes. If there is one aspect I think WoW has always done better than WC3 it is creating a living breathing world with some very gorgeous looking art like the environments. Changing those aspects in no way ruins the core of what is WC3's story in my eyes. It's just a shame that some of the naysayers can't see us eye to eye on this.

Since WC3 can't get its own forum currently, can I cross-post this to the megathread we have?
