Patch 8.3 PTR - Bind on Account Item Level 400 Catch Up Gear
Currently on the PTR, it has been discovered that catch up gear has been added in a manner similar to Argus and Timeless Isle. As you venture into Assaults in Uldum and Vale of Eternal Blossom, you will notice blue gear tokens will drop. Here is what we know so far:

Sorry for the mix-up!

Idc about being "elitist". Your whole spiel here is redundant.

I've been upset about it for a long time now. Lots of people have been saying enough of it. It's only been this bad since WoD.

It used to be that catch up gear would be introduced in the last patch of an expansion. Now it's every. Single. Patch.

I'm not looking for classic's itemization and loot philosophy. I'm looking for more rewarding gameplay. Where an upgrade means something.

Because as of right now you just do M+10 once a week, a warfront once a week, a PvP quest once a week, and you're shat on with free heroic gear. It just doesn't feel rewarding.
This is massively ridden with hyperbole, but even if we accept the premise: there is a shift from character progression to personal progression. E.g. I still try to kill mythic raid bosses and push keys because I want to improve my play and achieve something beyond gear. In classic, this is impossible because the content is trivial and the skill cap is non-existent - it is almost all gear.

    These are very different philosophies!

Good luck going straight to Nazjatar with your freshly dinged 120 which has around 280 ilev.

Not a problem if you've been collecting the BOA Benthic tokens on your other characters.

Anyway. Looks like I'll continue to work on Benthic gear when 8.3 releases. The Uldum/Vale gear is fine from a transmog collector point of view.

There were badge vendors from day 1 of the expansion, and you got access to the previous tiers badge stuff when the next raid came out and then there was the ToC dungeon.
Not to mention, you could get Merciless Gladiator gear by farming BGs. I played a BM hunter at the time and it was better than BT gear :3

The gear is for people who got max level 5 minutes ago.. this gear is not for characters that have played BFA for a week or more

The point is to do relevant content quickly. Which this would do at the same rate that benthic shit does. This will let you step into 5man mythics on an alt as soon as you ding. Getting a full set of benthic gear to 400+ will definitely take longer than grabbing this set (if the drops are anything like they have been in the past).

Pretty much, yes. You could buy 2 pieces of your set gear per raid tier, too, if I'm not mistaken.

Except you literally don’t have to fight anything dangerous. If you have flight, you skip everything except the mandatory quests from your faction that has you kill roughly 21 enemies, then you fly over everything else, do a storyline in Highmountain that has you kill 5-6 enemies total (app scaled down), and then another quest line in Nazjatar where you kill roughly 1-3 enemies to unlock dailies. After that you earn enough mana pearls to buy Benthic in every slot available. Roughly 30-45 minutes of work depending on your class.

I managed to get to 430 without doing any raids or mythics, and my only benthic item was bracers.
You get a lot of high ilvl gear from farming conquest, which you can get by doing the invasions and finding war chests. Don't have to do anything pvp for it.

Except you can't expect every single player to play that way. Yes, i'm really happy for you that you know how to avoid most of the fights. This game is developed for the majority though, who might not be as skilled in this game.

This catch up gear WILL help freshly dinged 120, whether you like it or not. The only difference between this one and benthic is that this one will drop from CURRENT content because noone is going to be doing nazjatar when 8.3 hits.

People say blizz dumbed down the game, but what choice did they have when their playerbase itself gets dumber year after year.

I would say they targeted that audience, since they got greedy and wanted to please everyone, and look how few plays retail now compared to classic, and classic simply forces you to do more challenging (albeit easy compared to m+ and raids in retail) content then WQ's and welfare from pvp.
I think the incentive to do a +4 mythic goes down the drain when you're already at 415 from LFR/wq/benthic, and then you wanna get into +7-9, but you haven't learned the ropes yet, not even your class.

I want them to force you into normal raids and lower m+ to get more meaningful gear

It's nice way to "complete" our alts and prepare them for Shadowlands, but I think pre-patch will have something similar to Legion invasion (with Scourge this time) and they'll give even better gear.

Funny, since most common complain right now is "why my essences are not account-wide".

Why can’t you expect people to play the path of least resistance? Whether they choose to or not is up to them, but expecting them to spend 40 minutes getting 385 gear in all but 5 slots vs spending days or weeks hoping for WQs or making mythic groups isn’t a terrible thing.
Also, why would you say “whether I like it or not,” as if I personally have a problem with catch up gear? Hell, your main can easily have mana pearls for alts as well for freshly dinged 120’s. By the way, Benthic is also current content. Hell, you don’t even need to spend pearls as doing WQs on your main while getting rep and achieves and farming mounts will still have Benthic gear as rewards. I’ve only been back to the game for 2 months and I’m sending gear to my enchanted to DE now because all my alts have 385 in those slots, and this is all current.
It seems like you misread my post and think I’m arguing something I’m not.

I hope this is true. I do not have time to run organised content and I despise pugging, so I only run solo content and trivial group content (like warfronts and timewalking).

I still ended up with 434 ilvl. If next patch is going to have 430 for LFR and 445 for normal, 400 for catchup seems incredibly low. You won't get into any content with that, especially since it doesn't even give weapons.

    Forget about catch up gear.

Now read about how Blizzard couldnt handle a bug and CHANGED THEIR PVP BRAWL OF THE WEEK.

Even their in-game calendar still says its Comp Stomp brawl, i got in a match today and everyone was like "wtf why is it snowing, wtf where is the AI"

Gear is oversaturated, especially thanks to M+ and catch up gear. There's just so much of it everywhere. They're very easy things and far too rewarding. Catch up gear needs to be removed entirely or at least saved for the last patch of an expansion. With M+ being slightly worse than raiding gear with its top item level dropping from M+20s instead of 10s. Those changes would help out a lot.
I'm sorry, what? How does 400 gear make raiding unrewarding? EP Heroic gives 430, EP Mythic gives 445, and this catchup gear (which will probably be 410 like the tooltip says) will be in 8.3 with 465 raiding gear. Raiding will give the best gear in the game so I have no idea how that equates to "unrewarding"

Makes me miss Legion Artifacts even more, I have to say.
Honestly think blizz sometimes forget we don't hae artifacts anymore.

Took me ages on my shammy to replace my leveling shield at 120. It's Was 390 for ages when all the test of my gear was 420+...
