The survival guide is wrong about unlocking the races. You can unlock mechagnomes even if you're exalted on a horde character, you just pick up the introductory quest at the emissary in Stormwind. Unless that's changed in the last week.

... Well I'll be damned. Apparently, the rep translates, but not the questline completion. Bah

Grinding in a MMOrpg is very normal not sure what else you was expecting.

Re-used features:
* Catch-up gear
* Invasions
* Legendary cloak (MoP)

New features:
* Horrific Visions
* MOTHER's Research
* The dynamic part of the Legendary cloak
* Corruption
* New HoA minor slot
* New profession recipes
* New AH
* Re-vamped Deepwind Gorge
* New 12-boss raid

Sigh... As cool as this stuff looks. It a lot of stuff further making alts nearly impossible.

I was going to say inb4 people crying about WoW still being an MMORPG, but it didn't make it 2 replies.

It's my old updated list, I think it's more detailed:

New stuff in 8.3 is:
- 12 boss raid - Nyalotha
- 2 new daily hubs - Uldum/Vale
- Horrific Vision - 2x 1-4 man repeatable scenario (looks like it's both continuation of Chromie/Withered and first sketch of Torghast)
- new story questlines (including recruitment for new races)
- minor stuff like pet battle dungeon

Modified content:
- new M+ affic
- Operation:Mechagon heroic and m+ mode
- Darkshore heroic warfront
- Arathi pvp warfront (it's still a thing? haven't see any news beyond initial PTR)
- revamped Deepwind Gorge

New rewards:
- all S4 gear
- legendary transmog
- new essences
- new cosmetic things, recipes etc.
- 2 new races

System changes:
- scraping of titanforging, introducing corrupted gear
- auction house revamp

I am mildly infuriated by locking Death Knights for allied races because of not pre-purchasing Shadowlands...
