There was never a night elf presence in Aszhara to lose, for one, and as for Ashenvale, they haven't "held" it since WC3.
The very first Night Elf chapter in TFT is in Aszhara which was somehow retconned by WoW into a barren land for some reason; hey they love retcons so doesn't matter now
Where else would you put the port of Nendis and the Night Elven villages on the eastern coast? They're not on Winterspring and Darkshore is at the east

it was just datamined back in 8.1 but became official now; but somehow they still haven't managed to make it decent
Wait.. I thought the trees were a part of their family... is this for real? "Fuck the trees lol".. trees are sacred to night elves.. is this for real? Yeh who cares about the ancients and treats and huppogryohs and forest creatures etc.. night elves never really cared about them anyway.
This is just another good example that proves, that the current authors have no clue about large parts of the lore. They seem to be mostly interest in a few characters they can write shitty stories about. Everything else doesn't matter.
Uuuh when does this play? What is this the end to?
Besides it being lame (ingame "cutscenes" are shit anyway, might as well have them just play the RP dialogue like before), I'm kinda confused what this is for actually.

Downsizing affects everyone, especially after a recent genocide.
The quality of in-game cutscenes has been shocking lately. It's like Blizzard are trying to copy FFXIV's style of storytelling but with the bare minimum of effort. The dialogue is pretty underwhelming as well - though night elves have long suffered from dubious writing ever since Cataclysm. There's a very stark contrast between how they were written back when the game first launched and how they're written now.

At least they succeeded in avoiding Tyrande to jump aggressively in this one, that's a feat
Did you miss the whole part of Genn almost giving Anduin the finger(ok, may just have been me imagining this part because frell that spoiled brat) for not helping the Night Elves and then joining himself in the darkshore fight with the rest of the worgens?
I saw it. I just chalked it up to Genn's routine grumpiness. I guess they're going to drag him into Tyrande's revenge story after all.
About the Dark Legacy comic, I was actually pleasantly surprised that the "loot 3 chests" daily is retroactive, and if you happen to loot some before picking up the quest, it still counts it for you and the quest will start at 1/3 or whatever.
Sorry mate, the ingame events very cleary state that most of the night elves are dead. Thats what the whole Quest was about where you try to evacuate as many as possible and fail miserably. I understand there might be hints in the books that say otherwise, but if ingame events contradict external sources, ingame events win.
Ingame events rarely win even less so when it’s the pc doing them as the pc is made non canon or replaced by an npc in the lore all the time. Blizzard was pretty clear that the short story’s they put out with the pre patch were what was canon and every thing post pre patch treat it that way.

You can thank people like Steve Danuser like that. Didn't know who he was till recently but lost all respect and faith in him the moment I found out he literally made Blightcaller a thing again so he could self insert himself into the game to be "close" to Sylvanas.
I get he isn't the sole person in charge of where the narrative goes but with people like him in charge I think things are only going to get worse. Most of the people who truly knew the lore are gone or on other projects and it shows.

Honestly if they are gonna go in game ones they need to make them like the "higher" quality ones we got all throughout BfA. The one at the end of Battle for Lordaeron and the one before the second Siege of Orgrimmar. I know those are probably cost much more but either do those or don't do them at all.
You really can tell they have been looking at the rise of Final Fantasy and trying to adopt things from it. They just aren't putting in the work for it yet. I am hoping that Shadowlands steps it up some but I just have no faith it will yet.
These kind of cutscenes are just unacceptable in 2020. Its so very low effort that it feels like they hired some student animators to make this during their lunch break.
