Blackwing Lair Cleared in 42 Minutes!

Throughout the race, we captured the names of the players involved and the timestamps of boss kills from all realms in all regions.

Razorgore the Untamed

At only six (and seven) minutes past the hour, the first guilds to complete the Razorgore encounter were:
  • CN United from Huhuran (China) at 23:06 UTC
  • Praxis from Zandalar Tribe (Europe) at 23:07 UTC
  • For teh Horde from Heartstriker (Europe) at 23:07 UTC

Vaelastrasz the Corrupt

Basking in the glory of great power, the first three groups to end Vaelastrasz’s torment were:
  • Praxis from Zandalar Tribe (Europe) at 23:08:54 UTC
  • Ashes of Time from Earthshaker (China) at 23:09:08 UTC
  • Shao Guang from Ouro (China) at 23:09:10 UTC

Broodlord Lashlayer

After a brief suppression, Broodlord Lashlayer went down first to:
  • CN United from Huhuran (China) at 23:17:49 UTC
  • RISE from Incendius (North America) at 23:19:21 UTC
  • Calamity from Mograine (Europe) at 23:19:38 UTC

Firemaw

Firemaw’s Shadow Flame barely slowed down the same three leading guilds:
  • CN United from Huhuran (China) at 23:22:15 UTC
  • RISE from Incendius (North America) at 23:24:24 UTC
  • Calamity from Mograine (Europe) at 23:24:36 UTC

Ebonroc

At this point, another guild from Europe charged into contention, and Ebonroc was first downed by:
  • Calamity from Mograine (Europe) at 23:31:52 UTC
  • Progress from Firemaw (Europe) at 23:32:12 UTC
  • CN United from Huhuran (China) at 23:32:15 UTC

Flamegor

The same three guilds in the same order ended Flamegor at 33 minutes past the hour:
  • Calamity from Mograine (Europe) at 23:32:58 UTC
  • Progress from Firemaw (Europe) at 23:33:17 UTC
  • CN United from Huhuran (China) at 23:33:50 UTC

Chromaggus

A dragon for all dragonflights, Chromaggus succumbed to:
  • Calamity from Mograine (Europe) at 23:37:12 UTC
  • APES from Gehennas (Europe) at 23:37:12 UTC
  • Progress from Firemaw Europe) at 23:37:22 UTC

Nefarian

With less than 43 minutes elapsed, the first three guilds in the world to complete Blackwing Lair in WoW Classic were:
  • Progress from Firemaw (Europe) at 23:42:21 UTC
  • Calamity from Mograine (Europe) at 23:42:21 UTC
  • APES from Gehennas (Europe) at 23:42:29 UTC

Congratulations to every guild that planned and executed this feat so well!

Clearing fast is one thing, coming so close within each other is pretty nuts though. Grats to the teams mentioned.

This shows what years of experience and knowledge does to a raid.

Wasn't this raid one that broke the back of many raiding guilds back in the days?
We only had issues with the first 2 bosses. After some gearing up in MC and all and some buffs we got those 2 down and then proceeded directly all the way to Nefarian. Took like 2 days of tries to beat Nefarian.

One thing that is hugely different now than then are buffs. We never used world buffs (unless by luck), no felwood buffs, no dire maul buffs. Hardly any elixirs etc.

Still we beat the content fairly easily back then. Also addons were pretty much nonexistant. We saw first threat meters in BWL I think.

Nowadays people use a lot of buffs on every raid.

Last a lil longer you say?

So how long does retail last? .. 2 years and then its a wipe and new expansion. Nothing stays in that game. Anything you do is wiped every now and then.

Time for blizz to forget this expansion bullshit and create the game world so that it stays static and you just get new content to play with.

A game lasting 2 years is pretty damned good, but WoW has lasted for 15. Stating that it's "a wipe" is intellectually dishonest when said "wipe" merely serves to set the board up with basic MMORPG elements such as leveling your character and amassing player power to tackle the new content.

I don't know about you, but I'm still playing the character I started 10 years ago. My achievements, character lists, collections and memories of where I've been, are static.

Not to mention the fact that the content released over an expansion, remains. They don't make it unavailable to players, and players can return should they so choose to level new characters, do achievements or pursue cosmetics.

Doing away with the base formula that's served them well for 15 fucking years? Yeah, sounds like prime levels of reasoning... There are other games catering to the people having a static-only mentality. For example, Classic (and maybe tbc eventually), but also plenty of single-player RPGs.

Well, speed runs are the thing that kept players occupied (and what they measured for success) on Private Servers, so stands to reason the devs are just making that a part of the official game since that's what Classic raiders care about.

Some PS players predicted that this would be a thing, and seems they were correct. Whatever makes them happy I'd say.

Speed runs are big business in plenty of old games, after all.

I'm pretty sure that being called a loser IRL by... well, anyone on these forums, but especially you, is wholly inconsequential.

But you being unable to keep up was cute. We weren't debating whether someone enjoys one or the other, we were responding to someone making claims about the number of players. You were simply so eager to lash out, that you only managed to copy a word used once and use it twice. How remarkable.

"Insults are simply a reflection of personal fears".

But thanks for reminding me why you were on the /ignore list, I'd forgotten and will rectify.
No one read that dribble and you are a hypocrite, darling. I was never on it and still am not, that's just Gen Z deflection techniques, darling.

He is remembering it correctly. I didn't even have a computer back in a day, but most of my friends only had limited data plus only could use internet from 17h to 6 AM. Dial ups were surely a thing back in a day. Only my classmates from towns had DSLs. Speed of 1mbit/s was crazy for most of us.

I remember distinctly my brother being ecstatic when he "only" had 500 MS and could maintain 15 FPS in raids.
    Different times.

He literally came back for Classic because he wanted to experience it on a modern internet connection and computer.

I can tell you never entered vanilla naxx. You are just reading off posts about it. This instance was one of the most overtuned instances ever released. Bosses hit like trucks on tanks fully geared from tier 2-2.5 (50 to 60% hp per hit)and even freaking raid dots that did 60% of a dps hp in 1 tick.. if healers and dispellers werent fast enough its a wipe. If you never played vanilla naxx dont pretend you did. I was one of the guilds fortunate enough to get up to 4horseman but never managed to down it.

4horseman is a 25min fight and if 1 person in the raid of 40 screwed up the stacks its a wipe. 1 missed taunt its a wipe.

Dont go pretending that vanilla naxx is easy. If you were never there 15 years ago to do it dont say another word. We experienced hundreds of hours on wipes and we were one of the top oceanic guilds back in the day.
