Shadowlands Leveling Changes and Level Squish
In Shadowlands, new players that have never created or leveled a character will automatically begin in Exile's Reach. Veteran players will be able to opt out of this zone and complete the starting zone for their race.

Allied Race characters (including Death Knights) start at Level 10, however Demon Hunters and non Allied Race Death Knights start at Level 8 and have to go through their starting zone experience before they can progress further.

Shadowlands Riding and Flying Changes
In addition to the Leveling Changes and Level Squish mentioned above, Riding and Flying Skills are getting a few quality of life changes in Shadowlands!

  • The first level of riding Apprentice Riding is now learned at Level 10 from a Riding Trainer or Flying Trainer. Characters leveled through the new player starting experience in Exile's Reach will have to finish the zone and get to Orgrimmar or Stormwind to learn Apprentice Riding.
  • Artisan Riding has been removed, which means players can upgrade from Expert Riding (150% Flying Speed at Level 30) directly to Master Riding (310% Flying Speed at Level 40).
  • The other Riding Skills can now be learned every 10 Levels instead of every 20 Levels. Journeyman Riding (Max Riding Speed) is now learned at Level 20 and Expert Riding (Flying) is now learned at Level 30.
  • It's currently unknown if characters that bought Artisan Riding will automatically learn Master Riding. We'll see if this is the case once the "copy character" option is available on Shadowlands Alpha.
  • Faction discounts are still present in Shadowlands. For example, characters that reach Level 40 and are Exalted with their appropriate faction will benefit from a 20% discount and will be able to purchase flying (Master Riding) for 4000.
  • The achievements Draenor Pathfinder and Broken Isles Pathfinder, Part Two are no longer required for flying in Draenor and Broken Isles.

There been any news on the flying changes? A bunch of my toons never got the 310 speed, wondering if I wasted probably 80k on the former artisan riding to get bumped down to 150. I'd be real annoyed to have to spend that again.

With regards to flying, please just let players have access to flight after a couple of months into the expansion. Once players are max level and are getting into the end-game content, that's when flying becomes important. In BfA, flying didn't unlock for a long, long time, which made things a giant pain in the ass when it came to doing daily quests, grinding AP, grinding gold, and doing whatever in general. I totally understand "the experience" of leveling up and discovery in the new content. That being said, flight needs to unlock at some point during the first raid tier. That would be great.

Just make flying how it used to be. Just charge gold for it. Bo more time hated content or jumping through 100 hoops to get it.

Guys when those changes to leveling will go live? With Shadowlands up or before with the prepatch? Im asking because Im rerolling on new server and I need two alts for profession but Im kinda burned with leveling my new main and would rather wait with leveling alts for the level squish (need them before Shadowlands release tho).

Equivalent to 1-110 now. That's waaay faster than currently with double XP. Yet Blizz said it would be "50-70% faster". I think what they meant is 2-3 times faster. Either way, leveling takes too long, as the entire focus of the game is on end-game.
