Targeted Corruptions and Faster Cloak Empowerment - Now Live

As previously stated, we’re working on bringing the Contaminants items to their vendor (MOTHER), and while we don’t yet have an exact time when that’s going to happen, it could be in the next day or two.

Targeted Corruptions and Faster Cloak Empowerment

We’re working on an update to the game that we expect to roll out in the coming week. We plan to make improvements to the process of obtaining Corrupted items on max-level characters and also streamline upgrading the legendary cloak Ashjra’kamas.

Our goal with this update is to speed up the power progression of new level 120 characters, while giving established endgame players more agency in pursuing the Corruption effects they most desire.

More Echoes
In our last update, we added Echoes of Ny’alotha, a new currency available from most Visions of N’Zoth content, which can be used to directly purchase Rank 3 Essences that have already been unlocked on a different character. We plan to expand the availability and purpose of this new currency. Now, once any character completes the legendary cloak questline, they will immediately begin earning Echoes of Ny’alotha from all of the usual sources.

Echoes of Ny’alotha will be much more abundant than before. As we expand the usefulness of Echoes of Ny’alotha, we want to ensure that players who haven’t felt the need to accumulate them don’t feel disadvantaged, so we will be increasing both the droprates of Echoes and their costs by a factor of 5. This means that when these changes take effect, a Major Assault will award 625 Echoes, up from 125. The cost to purchase an Essence will also increase by the same factor, from 500 to 2500 Echoes.

If you are planning to purchase a Rank 3 Essence with Echoes of Ny’alotha that you’ve already earned, you should do so now, before these costs change.

Improving Ashjra’kamas
We’re also reducing the requirements for any quest step in upgrading the cloak from Ranks 1 to 15 that previously required multiple Horrific Visions. Each Rank can now be achieved in a single Horrific Vision. For example, upgrading your Rank 13 cloak to Rank 14 will now require 2 Torn Pages of “The Final Truth” (was 6), so if you’re currently in possession of 2 or more pages, you’ll turn them all in and immediately complete that quest. The following quest to upgrade from Rank 14 to 15 will then require that you go get 2 more new Torn Pages (was 8).

The requirements for further minor upgrades to the cloak after Rank 15 with Malefic Cores have not been changed.

MOTHER will also offer Vessels of Horrific Visions in exchange for Echoes of Ny’alotha, providing an additional source of access to Horrific Visions that does not require completion of Assaults.

Choosing Your Corruption
In addition to any unlocked Essences, MOTHER will now also offer several new Preserved Contaminants, which allow for a specific Corruption effect (and the associated Corruption penalty) to be applied to a selected item. The inventory of available Preserved Contaminants will change twice each week, mirroring the Assault cadence, and will cycle through all available Corruption effects at various levels of potency.

You can use a Preserved Contaminant to apply the Corruption you purchased to any uncorrupted item that can be Corrupted, much like an enchant. Here are some sample costs for MOTHER’s updated offerings:

Item - Cost (Echoes of Ny’alotha)
  • Vessel of Horrific Visions - 1750
  • Rank 3 Essence - 2500
  • Masterful I - 3000
  • Siphoner I - 4250
  • Twilight Devastation I - 6250
  • Siphoner II - 6300
  • Ineffable Truth II - 6750
  • Racing Pulse III - 7875
  • Echoing Void III - 12000
  • Twilight Devastation III - 15000

Important Notes
We highly suggest that you purchase any Rank 3 Essences that you want and can afford as soon as possible.

Due to a technical limitation, items that have been cleansed cannot be re-corrupted. We are looking into whether it will be possible to fix this, but we don’t want to hold up the whole system in the meantime.

All of the previous ways that Corrupted items and Vessels can be acquired are still in place. The changes above are meant to supplement those sources and provide you with more options and control in pursuing your goals.

Most of the game is a "tough shit" scenario, why should this be different.

This is so dumb on an infinite number of levels. Where the hell was this shit months ago? This is a HAIL MARY to 1) Keep subs running till Shadowlands and 2) Give those struggling with raids a fighting chance which will ultimately translate to #1 and also improves the alt game. This is an amazingly positive change... BUT SO FUCKING LATE into the expac. Geez this is so frustratingly annoying to see this now. This entire expansion there has been an seriously obvious lack of communication within the dev team.

This sentence most will overlook. What corruption she is selling will be random (or on a preset rotation), and which level will be random (or on a preset rotation). Everything sounded great till they needed layer of dumb, 1 step forward 2 steps back. If I have enough to buy TD3 why do I have to wait 4 weeks to get it, why? because reasons?

Just have them all available permanently. Fml blizzard do some random pointless shit sometimes.
Not disagreeing with you in that specific case, but to be honest if you're not able to login just once during a whole 4 days cycle then I have no idea why do you care / need specific corruptions. Logging in once a week you already won't be able to afford it, and what do you even need that for, then?

So like the people who will have 20-30 Visions runs saved up who will get shit loads of echoes.

Assuming the technical issues of not being able to apply these corruptions to cleansed pieces isn't fixed, raiders will be at a slight advantage. As someone that only does M+, this will limit me to applying these corruptions to 465 pieces since gear from weekly cache and visions are always corrupted.

The other thing they need to do is make mythic Ny’alotha lockouts more flexible. Heroic is going to be even easier now and we have a long time until shadowlands. Take off the shackles.

So my main which has never got any Echoes of Ny’alotha is screwed because I cant get any to buy the Corruption because she had all the rank 3s. GG blizz GG Blizz.

Fuck you Blizzard, fuck you so much. If you introduce pay to win to the game fucking stand with it and don't drop it after people spend their money on it. Fucking predatory shenanigans going on here. Hopefully the crazy Americans will deck you with lawsuits about this.

It really doesn't matter. My main has none either but with the 5x factor applied, we won't be too far behind alts in terms of echoes count.

Well I'm 99% sure the rotation will start from rank 1, go through all rank 1 curruptions, then go rank 2 etc...

Cool, most of my alts are/were coming up do doing 5 chests with rank 12/13 cloaks but now this will expedite that process. Neat.

Blizzard cannot do anything right by most folk's standards anymore. They listen to the community, then they're dumb and aren't smart enough to run their game anymore. They don't listen, you cry and complain that they don't care about their own game anymore.

Some of you people are literally never, ever, ever happy.

    Get some help.
Man, it's like people who weren't able to get echoes are now behind people who didnt care to buy off spec essences and alts.
It's like now, you have to hope an item DOESNT corrupt because you can't buy one for a cleansed piece.

    Think next time.

Why Blizzard bothers doing what this community cries for is beyond me when this is the response they get. Sorry they didn't announce that they are sending an employee to do everything for you so you don't have to put in an ounce of effort.

Havent seen this point brought up and its a good one.

Pretty stupid system when you hope an item doesnt corrupt so you can corrupt it with the right corrupt. Good as design blizzard. Much smart system designz

Oh well, this makes me a bit happier, and I can restore some corrupted items that I removed.

15 days is both an exaggeration and not a long period of time. They take like 30 minutes a day, and this patch has been out for literal months. If you haven't got them by now it's because you don't really want them, not because they're difficult to obtain.

No, this is wrong. If a char has all available level 3 essences unlocked on the account he won't get any. Source: My main.
Considering that my alts have 10-15k of them without ever farming them, and a 75 corruption enchant costs 15k, I'd say that's actually quite some setback in particular for main chars even with the rate increased.
