Faster Legendary Cloak Upgrades

Professions Supporting Legendary Crafting
In the Shadowlands, you’ll be able to create your own Legendary Armor within the Runecarver’s Chamber, a place of exceptional power locked away in Torghast. Legendary crafting is not currently available for testing yet, but when it is, all players, regardless of their profession(s), will be able to create their own Legendary Armor.

Creating a piece of Legendary Armor requires a Base Item that will be imbued with Legendary powers.

Blacksmiths, Jewelcrafters, Leatherworkers and Tailors will be able to craft the Base Items which will eventually become your Legendary Armor.

  • A Base Item is a blank armor template that serves as a vessel for Legendary powers.
  • Base Items aren’t soulbound. They can be acquired from other players, your alts, or the Auction House.
  • The recipes for the Base Items, like the Chamber itself, are locked away in Torghast. However, once learned, they can be crafted from anywhere.

Optional Reagents
Optional Reagents are a new feature in Shadowlands, allowing players to customize the equipment they create. With Optional Reagents, you’ll increase the item level of the crafted item while also increasing the level required to equip the item. This will be especially useful while leveling up or gearing alts.

You’ll be able to specify which two of the four secondary stats you want the item to give bonuses to, allowing you to customize your character’s power. However, you cannot choose to make the item only have one Secondary Stat. Certain recipes will allow for bonus effects, such as increasing your flask or food buff durations. Optional Reagents will only apply to armor and weapon recipes at the start of Shadowlands.

Additional Updates
Not all Professions are the same, and we’re taking steps to address this by setting different skill bar maximums in Shadowlands. Gathering professions, being fast to level, will have skill bars that are larger than crafting professions, but should require the similar amount of effort to max out.

Star ranks for recipes have been greatly reduced in prominence in Shadowlands.

The Scrapper is a Battle for Azeroth-specific feature and will not be in Shadowlands.

We’re considering some degree of Profession interconnectivity, the concept that certain crafts from Professions are used in recipes for other Professions.

On experiencing the wondrous Shadowlands, Engineers will have a techno-magical breakthrough. Many Engineering devices are more powerful than their Azerothian counterparts, but so much power is difficult to control, and could result in a catastrophic backfire. However, Engineers will be able to reduce the likelihood of a backfire as they gain more skill.

There used to be some degree of it during the Vanilla/TBC/Wrath days, so seeing this return is definitely a great thing.

Oh good, more crappy backfiring engineering nonsense, and I'll need a tailor to make parachutes for my tinkers too...

It's great, means no one professions will be left behind... like Inscription, which is complete trash atm. I would imagine the ilevel reagents off it would be in high demand for other professions, being a tidy money maker.

AND being able to choose the stats, even better!

Honestly, this is one of the things I am actually happy with Blizzard of doing... and I've lost a lot of faith in them.

Inscription is definitely an odd ball, makes mounds of money at the start of the expansion with decks and it's hit or miss with glyphs after that.

Bring back bonuses!!! I miss my Lightweave Embroidery from Tailoring, or my stamina from Mining.

There is a lot of good here, potentially. Minimizing the impact of the star ranks is huge, although eliminating them altogether would have been better. Allowing crafters to make the base item for the legendaries is absolutely huge. Depending on what it takes to make them, you're looking at sustained income throughout the expansion; the base legendary items require about 200-300 rare ores, for example, so expect the prices to be really high in the beginning, which is how it is in most expansions, but people will be making alts for 2 years, so dedicated farmers should be able to count on steady income from crafting them.

Blizzard came with the excuse players didn't like being "forced" to level professions for them despite being having a whole slough of things in the game players are forced to do to remain competent... such as AP, and Legendary cloak ranks, etc.

Yeah, I'd like them back too. It added some small flavor to professions for personal benefit.

the playerbase whines incessantly when 1h and 2h options are 1% different. and you dont think they would complain about having to pick particular proferssions for bonuses? yeah, sure.

I always liked these bonuses aswell. Its part of why I had most of my professions leveled to max back in TBC and WotLK, now people will just see it as being forced to grind..

People today are entitled as hell, for no reason.

So many think just because they bought a game, they should have all the same experiences as someone that isn't brain dead, can adapt and know when something is bullshit and thus, avoids it.

Nah, lets whine about the game while being a single parent with 5 children and no time to play video game.

Professions, but still no updates on Shadow Priest after all this time?

    They are useless.

Thank goodness. I blew through my entire stock of Marks of Honor from Legion (and then some) just to keep up on all the professions' ranks in BfA. I wish having ranks in profession recipes were done away with entirely, but at this point I'll take what I can get.

As for the scrapper, in my opinion, it was a poor concept. Pretty much the only useful aspect of it wasn't even the (featured) Expulsom — it was the gems from rings. If nothing else it served only to make you lose out on gold from the vendor.

"Optional Reagents will only apply to armor and weapon recipes at the start of Shadowlands." Doesn't this again imply that crafted gear will not be able to keep up as the expansion progresses? Again?

Wrong on two counts here. First, Blizzard din't come up with the complaint, players complained. Second, the complaint wasn't even that they were forced to level, it was that there were some professions (read: skinning, which gave you crit) that felt like objective power increases over others (herb's shitty heal, +stam from mining).

Of course most people just ignored it and did the professions they wanted to. Kinda like covenants.

That's not how i read that at all, i think it sounds more like the options beyond armor and weapons will be available. I don't know where you're getting the crafted gear cant keep up or that the reagents wont apply anymore.

Finally, been saying this for years. Also it works in SWTOR - adaptive armor (blank, statless pieces) with a range of mods, armorings and enhancements that actually give you final stats. Sure, bit PITA with picking correct combination but you can tailor your gear toward your character and gameplay you like. And now something similar comes to WoW. Mildly curious how it will work.

So they make a new feature only to dump it mid expansion. /facepalm

I was so happy when they announced these changes in professions, but now I expect it to end like BfA... in 9.2 I will get two new BS recipes and both crafts will be soulbound.

It may have just been a poorly worded way of saying "Pre-shadowlands crafted gear will not have these crafting options". I hope so, at least, because it looks like the kind of system that could easily be expanded to give other small bonuses - such as quicker out of combat regeneration, lower repair costs, quicker crafting, faster taxi speeds, higher chance to roll quest reward upgrades, longer range for looting corpses, faster falling speed (tho, same dmg), additional item slots in mail you send, etc. So many little perks the game could randomly sprinkle on you. Oh well, one can always dream.

This is my worry as well. This system looks great, but I hope they keep up with it during the expansion so professions don't become useless after one or two major patches.
