Shadowlands Beta - New Bolvar Quest
A new quest has appeared on the Shadowlands Beta in Oribos involving Bolvar. *SPOILERS AHEAD*

  • A messenger in Oribos asks you to enlist the help of Bolvar to deal with the information uncovered in Maldraxxus, however, he says that Bolvar is currently preoccupied by visitors from Azeroth.
  • When you find Bolvar, you see that his daughter Talia and Calia Menethil have somehow made it to Oribos. She is pleading with him to find out if our friends can still be saved. Bolvar says the risk is too great for him to peer into the Maw again, but Talia insists by saying that she journeyed all the way to the realms of death to meet the father that she thought lost to her. She says that she hasn't asked him for anything ever and he relents, agreeing to do as she asks.
  • Bolvar says that his choice to have everyone, including Talia, believe he was dead after putting on the Lich King's crown was a selfish one. You help him begin the ritual with the help of the shattered crown, and an "awesome in-game event" shows the Maw to us.
  • Talia says she could make out Jaina and Thrall's voices, and their cries chilled her to the bone. Calia says that they could not hear Anduin or Baine, however, and wonders if Bolvar can try again. He says he needs to time as their is price to be paid for such visions.
  • It is then that the messenger from earlier, Tal-Inara, interrupts and says that you bear urgent information from the Primus of Maldraxxus. Bolvar asks him to aid us while he addresses this information.

Shadowlands Beta - Covenant Swapping Preview
Blizzard has implemented an early build at what you can expect when trying to swap your covenant. Leaving your current Covenant is as easy as talking to the emissary of the Covenant you wish to join in Oribos and navigating through the dialogue tree.

Upon trying to rejoin the Covenant that you left by talking to their emissary in Oribos, you will be told during the dialogue that your betrayal was not taken lightly and that you need to complete the quest task required in order to rejoin. As of now, the quest is there, but the task is not yet implemented, so we are unsure of what exactly this task is, though Morgan Day did mention in an earlier interview that swapping into another Covenant will not be hard, but rejoining one that you left may require additional tasks to be completed. Once you do, however, you will keep the progress that you made in that covenant prior to leaving, including all of your renown and soulbinds.

Shadowlands Beta - Jailer's Chains
The latest beta build introduced a new mechanic into Torghast in the form of Jailer's Chains. Players will now no longer be able to change their gear, Talents, or Soulbinds at the start of every floor, but only in the Central Chamber, at the start of the first floor, and in the vicinity of helpful Brokers on non-Boss floors in Torghast.

  • When in a party, your highest accessible layer will be defined by the party member with the lowest layer unlocked.
  • Anima Cells have updated to look more visible.
  • The door which allows you to exit Torghast has been updated to be less prone to accidental clicking at the start of each floor.

Respeccing & Gear Swapping
  • Players will no longer be able to change their gear, Talents, or Soulbinds at the start of every floor.
  • Players can now change their Gear, Talents, or Soulbinds in the Central Chamber, at the start of the first floor, and in the vicinity of helpful Brokers on non-Boss floors in Torghast.

Currency Updates
  • The Torghast-acquired legendary material is now named Soul Ash, and can be acquired from chests at the end of each layer once per week.
    • Completing a higher layer rewards all uncollected rewards from lower layers.
    • Drop amounts are not final.
  • Phantasma and Soul Ash have snazzy new icons.

Shadowlands Beta - Legendary Crafting UI
You can now test crafting your legendaries in the Shadowlands Beta. Currently, there is a vendor next to the Runecarver to purchase all the items that you need for testing the UI. Here is roughly how the process and UI function:

  • You first place the shell item crafted from professions into the middle slot.
  • The second slot opens a drop down menu of the available legendary powers that you have for that slot unlocked to choose for the legendary.
  • You then have the option to place in two runes that determine the two secondary stats on the item.
  • The UI will show a preview of what will be crafted as you enter these steps.
  • You must have enough soul dust currency to craft the item.

Shadowlands Beta - Druid Barber Shop Options
Here is a preview of the UI for druid form selection at the barbershop. As mentioned, druids in Shadowlands will be able to individually select their forms and colors, including forms unlocked from Legion regardless of specialization!

Wtf Taelia being a bully. Haven't seen her dad for years, thought he's dead (well, he is kind of...). Finally they meet... and the first thing she does is request her dad (who has definitely better knowledge then her, a simple human) to risk his existence to do something. "I heard you a hero and you worry about doing this thing that might destroy you lol what a puss".

I'm guessing that "price" is either going to cost Bolvar his life or make him evil. :/

Why is Taelia even in the Shadowlands? Also she was introduced last expansion, lost relevance halfway through and now she's close friends with everyone who is trapped in the Maw? Has she even had a conversation with anyone aside from Anduin?

As for positives, I'm liking that there isn't a "Unique-equipped" tag on the legendary crafted gear. Wonder how long that will last...

At least he finally gets to do something.

Ok this is just too much... what do they mean betrayal? All of these factions are are allies, betrayal would require me to join an enemy faction.

My issue with all this, is sort of my issue with us being a small token force back in WoD. A select few making through the portal type deal only to end up with tons of alliance/horde over there with us that shouldn't have been. Like I thought it was a pretty big deal getting the player to the shadowlands, how is everyone else just "showing up" out of the blue? Did I miss something somewhere? Is it just open to the public now?

Meanwhile I just want to know how many bear asses it will cost to make your new/old covenant happy with you.

An expansion featuring Bolvar as one of the main characters and you're wondering why his daughter is relevant?

I think the question is, how did she get there. She is noone special, noone important. But she just ventures into the realm of afterlife, like it's a trip to a nearby store.

@Duorunt seems to be having the same doubts as I have - by the time 9.1 hits, Shadowlands (I remind you - the afterlife) will be nothing more than a trip destination for bored Azerothians who have nothing better to do during Saturday evening.

There's a giant rift in the sky, it's not hard to imagine how she got here.

There’s a giant rift in the sky in icecrown, somewhere she has no place being. Even if there’s a rift in the sky, she has no business jumping in it all yolo. And even if she like an idiot jump in, she should be in the maw so how the hell did she get out.

They will obviously explain in game how characters can go between the Shadowlands and the living world. They likely will explain the broken pieces of the helm is being used as an anchor for others to teleport to. And for Taelia we hear in the voice files that she finds out Bolvar is alive so she goes after him and then we end up with the above quest.

I really hope we are not going to interact all the time with Bolvar and his human familie members and friends as the Horde. Rather have them set up some Horde characters and build them up since we lost so many over the last exp packs some Horde characters really need all the ingame lore time they can get.

As @keymil said, I was wondering how she got there. You'd think at most she'd be able to reach Northrend, maybe IceCrown Citadel or Acherus but to just turn up in Oribos at the centre of the Shadowlands is a bit ridiculous. Although you do bring up a good point, why is she relevant this expansion? She was dropped halfway through the last expansion and doesn't even make an appearance in the lead in book for this expansion. Alright she may be his daughter but other than that she is just a foot soldier so she's not exactly bringing anything but a "touching reunion"... well not even that it seems as she turns up unexpected and demands Bolvar do a plot relevant action and for people she is established to barely even know. The fact she knows what Thrall sounds like made me laugh even better she's accompanied by Calia who shouldn't even know who she is.

Unless their intent is to reveal that Taelia died to come to the Shadowlands, see her father and save her "friends" I don't see why she is there.

This doesn't really suck, it has the potential of creating a new villian from a very well known character. And we know the lore really needs that right now since Sylvanas really didn't qualify.

TBF, imagine thinking your whole life that your dad is dead, and then you find out that not only is he not dead, he could have let you know at literally any point, and just chose not to. I'd be pretty pissed too.

Yeah this rubbed me the wrong way too, specifically the "ive never asked you for ANYTHING. So please risk your life for us." part it just feels really manipulative and gross.
