The New Leveling Experience And Heirlooms in Shadowlands

Heirlooms and other experience gained bonuses were originally introduced as a quick fix for alts to not have to spend over 100 hours leveling. With the revamped leveling experience, you can look forward to reaching the new max level more than twice as fast than before. With the quicker leveling experience, the fundamental problem to the long leveling process has been solved and we found that the experience bonuses that come from Heirlooms were no longer necessary and instead, made the new leveling experience feel very awkward with the extra leveling speed.

We want to ensure that players’ investment in these Heirlooms continues to offer unique benefits while leveling, so we’re planning to replace the experience bonus on Heirlooms with unique Heirloom set bonuses.

  • (2) Set: Rested experience consumed is reduced by 30%.
  • (3) Set: Increases your out-of-combat regeneration in the outdoors, normal dungeons and battlegrounds.
  • (4) Set: Gaining a level triggers Burst of Knowledge, dealing Holy damage to nearby enemies and granting you 40% primary stat for 2 minutes. Defeating additional enemies extends this effect, up to 2 additional minutes.
  • (6) Set: Rested experience consumed is reduced by an additional 30%.

The new set bonus can be obtained from all Heirloom pieces except weapons and trinkets. Please keep in mind that the new Heirloom set bonuses are a work in progress and may have additional changes during the course of development and testing.

There are a few other experience bonus items that will also see changes due to the new leveling experience. Monks Peak of Serenity Enlightenment buff will be changed to granting rested experience and Elixir of Ancient Knowledge, Elixir of the Rapid Mind, and Excess Potion of Accelerated Learning will become Poor quality and no longer usable. The Draught of Ten Lands will still retain the 10% experience bonus but will now be capped at level 50.

We hope that you look forward to the new leveling changes that introduces a faster and more flexible leveling experience than ever before.

    Those bonuses are lame.

    That's not so bad

It seems the naysayers were in the right this time. These bonuses are completely useless and they seem to be there just so Blizzard can say that heirlooms still have some perks to them.

I actually think those are reasonable and am surprised they didnt completely break them by making them useless. 60% slower consumption of rested XP is dope

    Actually pretty tight
I think maybe instead of Burst of Knowledge you throw in a flat % movement speed increase... or, maybe just make Burst of Knowledge a proc instead of going off on dinging? Render effects useless after hitting level 50, get new gear during intro experience to level 60 in Shadowlands

Because you have lot of rested XP when you create new character...

I feel good that I stopped investing in heirlooms. I feel bad for the investment I already had.

I agree a few of them are but you do go from 1-50 in like 7 hours on average now so does it really matter? They have to make sure people cannot level too fast because of the economy too. For example I have 4 max level characters running the 3 WoD dungeons and that nets me 45k'ish gold a week. Pretty effortless, and I can convert that into real currency to use in the store. They have certain things in place because your time if used effectively = more money than you are spending on a sub and they know this and also take this into consideration.

    Those bonuses seem fine tbh.

increased mount speed set bonus would have been better IMO

Insane bonuses. Should reduce them a bit so heirlooms doesn't feel mandatory, but rather like an option.

Is this the equivalent of the infamous "we want the player to feel a sense of pride and accomplishment" when leveling an alt?
Just give the flat percentage increase in xp, please, lower it a bit if you need but don't remove it. If I'm leveling an alt, is to get to the new stuff ASAP. Their "speed of leveling will be more than doubled" line smells really bad.

Would prefer the 4 piece set bonus be an increase to movement speed instead.

Refund my thousands of gold or change these to something worthwhile

VERY underwhelming.. Rested EXP only lasts for 2 levels, out of combat regen is worthless since you will never die when you have heirlooms equipped and the level up buff is eh.

Can you go one-by-one with each perk and explain how they're useless?

Not a bad change. I'd love to see some movement speed effect. The only week one is the on level effect. Nice but not that great when turning in quests which I assume will still be the largest chunk of leveling XP.

LMAO wow these are so bad

Rested XP consumption reduction on TWO tiers? Yeah because that is useful on my fresh level 1 with zero rest XP that I could probably get to 50 in one sitting.

A 2-4 min buff that will probably proc while you are turning in quests, wasting a chunk of it.

Fucking REGEN? What is this, vanilla? Does ANYONE have a problem with sustaining their HP and mana pools these days?

Absolute joke of a set, honestly you may as well just remove these useless bonuses. How about some movement speed or some fun stats? Maybe change one of those shitty rested XP buffs into a way of generating rested XP like every time you level you gain 20% of a level rest XP?
