WoW Patch 9.0.1 Hotfixes - October 26, 2020

Dungeons and Raids

  • Experience granted to players in dungeons is now standardized, and does not change with the size of the player's party.
    • Developers' notes: This standardized experience value is equal to what the leveling player would have previously earned in a 5-person party. Dungeon experience was tuned around the expectation of full parties, and we saw that taplist loopholes in combination with pre-patch changes to dungeon scaling revealed some extreme leveling tactics by fewer than 5 players. We want dungeons to remain lucrative, and to be a valid alternative to questing and other experience sources, rather than to overshadow them.

Quests

  • Anduin Wrynn should now be present in the throne room to turn in quests for players who are still on the Darkshore introduction storyline.

I think it's more like "You will play how it was intended, and not try to game the system."

In all honesty, they are the game creators, so they reserve the right to make hotfixes to prevent exploitations.

I think people might be more irritated that it's been this way for a long long time and after many years they'll claim it's a bug they are just now fixing. Which makes it a bit more dumb imo, but nothing you can do.

its always funny how people take a change that gives you more freedom and twist it to be the oposite, unless you were being sarcastic or trolling, its hard to tell

We literal pass over 18-20h to level from 1 to120, and get a 7-8h leveling experience and People still complaining for nothing... if you dont like the game, then leave it... sick People...

You forgot to yell "FUN DETECTED".

Its clearly a fix that grouping with less than five gave more experience than intended.

All the defense without anyone posting that it's a bad change. This is just as bad as the opposite happening. Personally, never done it before but preventing other people from doing something is just dumb. I don't see why people cheer on changes like this? It doesn't effect you in anyway whatsoever, Just limits how other people play. Meh, Gaming communities confound me sometimes.

Fixing the existing Shadowlands issues should be number one priority but they have the priority of going back to stop people from skipping an hour of their current leveling situation? Get your priorities straight, my dudes.

No, you literally gained much more experience than intended when grouping with less people in a 5man.

Imagine you would kill a raid boss twice as fast because you have only 5 people in your 20man raid.

Looks like legion invasions may have got a stealth nerf as well. None of the world quests have any bonus XP on them this round. Could just be RNG though, but suspicious that only two of them had anything "bonus" at all. (OHR & Essences).

Not liking leveling != not liking the game.

All this change means is I won’t be chain running dungeons anymore as a tank. This change sucks as it was a very fast leveling experience, but such is life. From everything I’ve read it’s not like leveling takes a long time anymore anyways.

This doesn't change anything about full parties. The normalized the exp to give the same exp as if 5 people were in the group. So you couldn't have someone boost you in freehold or solo mobs for tons of exp.

    So old 1 Person 800exp
    5 people 160exp

    New 1 person 160 exp
    5 people 160 exp

So...you respond as if I’m mistaken but then reinforce my point? Did you not convey what you meant well or just wanted to agree?

yeah and this is bullshit, it's been like that since forever but suddenly now it's a bug...

I've leveled a monk in MOP by soloing dungeons (when dungeons were piss easy, until like cataclysm dungeons which were harder too solo and wasn't worth it anymore) and I was getting a ton of xp per kill, almost 5x more than in a party to be exact and I was clearing it fast enough.

What was broken is doing boosts where lvl 50s with good gear were boosting ppl in freehold quickly, they should apply xp reductions to those in a party with a character that can no longer gain xp only (like it is when someone stops exp gain), not those that are same or close in levels and just choose to do it in 3-4 man.

Technically, this actually occurs in normal/heroic flex raiding, or at least it has in the past. Due to Blizz's scaling of content, it's not uncommon that encounters are way easier or way harder depending upon the size of the group. Back when flex raiding was introduced, it was very common to see specific raid size limits in group finder because of such issues. I don't think the analogy is quite there for what you intend, but I understand the intent at least.

I'm trying to remember when after all this time, but there was a point where Blizz changed the amount of XP you gained from mobs based upon how much damage you did to them. This was to counter level boosting via a group farming harder elite mobs and the leveler just hitting them once for XP (no idea if this was reverted in the end, honestly never checked). If anything, this change has a similar goal. What I am curious about is if the scaling they're fixing is the same or different from the BfA level boosting you could do in dungeons like Freehold, as in was pre-patch bugged to where it was offering way more XP using the same method and it's nerfed down to pre-pre-patch levels, or if it's a flat nerf below BfA standards.

If you are chain running dungeons as a tank like you said in your message then you're getting the same exp now as you did before. If you are running dungeons with a booster as a tank; the mentioning you are a tank seems pointless. I mean you aren't benefiting anyone being a tank running with a lvl 50 boosting you so why mention it?
