Soulbinds Updates - November 18

With hotfixes to the Shadowlands Beta, we’re making some targeted changes to the Pelagos, Emeni, and Heirmir soulbinds.

One of our primary goals for the Soulbind system is to provide compelling choices and texture differences between Covenants as well as individual Soulbind trees. When one tree or trait is noticeably overperforming (or underperforming), it can distort those choices. These adjustments are intended to shrink the gaps that we’ve seen and make it easier for players to choose the Covenant and Soulbind they’re most interested in or best fits their playstyle.

  • Kyrian/Pelagos: Let Go of the Past now provides 1% reduced magic damage taken per stack, instead of Versatility.
    • The tooltip now reads "Using a spell or ability reduces your magic damage taken by 1% for 6 seconds. Using another spell or ability increases this amount by 1% when it is not a repeat of the previous spell or ability, stacking to 3%.
  • Necrolord/Emeni: Lead by Example now grants the soulbound player 2% additional primary stat per affected ally (was 5%), but will count all affected allies instead of just the first 2, and affects up to 4 nearby allies.
    • The tooltip now reads “Your Covenant class ability increases your primary stat by 5% and up to 4 nearby allies’ primary stat by 2% for 30.0 seconds. You gain 2% additional primary stat for each ally affected.”
  • Necrolord/Heirmir: Forgeborne Reveries, in addition to the existing post-death effect, will now also passively increase your primary stat and your armor by 1% for each enchantment on your armor, up to 3% if you have at least 3 enchanted armor items.
    • The tooltip now reads “Your primary stat and Armor are increased by 1% for each enchantment on your armor, up to 3%. Upon death your armor anchors your soul, allowing you to fight for an additional 10 seconds. During this time, your damage and healing done is reduced by 50% and you cannot receive healing.”

As always, your feedback is invaluable in helping us make these changes. Thank you!

We will miss you Pelagos...you were cool, blue, but still cool.

Well that fixes the Pelagos problem, and yesterday's hotfix solved Kleia's Valiant Strikes meta-defining problem. So I'd say soulbinds are now in a good, though slightly irrelevant, position. Nothing build or meta defining, which is probably a good thing.

Well they have finally succeeded in making the system pointless. I just have to ask, why did it take so bloody long when it was clear this was the trajectory? They could have been done with that shit show 6 weeks ago.

Edit: While I still think their slow approach to balancing these when the only way to do so was this way in the first place, I forgot that they flipped the tree and the mastery talent is first now during the relevant times of progression. So it's not that much of a nerf tbh. It's just that 3% spell resist is the most useless thing ever, that just means there is no excitement waiting at the end of the tree.

So instead of #pullingtheripcord weeks months ago they just nerfed everything so it does not matter. Honestly about right for 2020.

If I'm reading that Emeni tooltip right, you can get up to 13% primary stat for 30s now. For Druids, Rogues and Paladins with the short CD Necrolord covenant ability that's 100% uptime.

That's not how it works, the duration is based on your ability's cd. You get 10 sec for every min so you'll get 30 seconds only if the cd is 3 mins.

Well this is stupid. Nerf op covenant, then everyone flocks to second op covenant, this is useless.

you do realise that the nerf the last tier of the soulbind, you can only unlock at at Renown 30, which is 30 weeks.

This change will only affect late expansion.

No idea why people were complaining about this so early.

Monks will still go Kyrian because of the mastery buff, it is still good

30 weeks? I'm sure we can get more than one renown a week. Else it would take the entire expansion to get 3 soulbinds up to max. And that system should only last until the next big patch.

What I understand is 1 Renown per week

yes, it is 1 week per Renown, it works for all 3 Soulbinds, and people can catch up if they are a week behind etc. but it 1 week

30 is around 10 weeks, not 30, you get around 3 a week (2 weeklies and one from your covenant campaign), only reason I say AROUND is because I don't know exactly how long the covenant campaign goes on for and if you still get 3/wk after it ends.

Renown is for all 3 Soulbinds. So it is not like you need for every Soulbind max Renown separately.

For example, at Renown 29 you unlock something from Soulbind 1 and on 30 you get Soulbind 2 etc.

The fact that they are still fixing things consistently and so close to launch is good, it means they give a shit this time around and they are not fucking around. They need to also stop worrying about making fixes mid season, the PvP players should suck it up and not effect them making balance changes mid major patches. The thing that hurts the games balance more than anything is the fact that they refuse to keep PvP and PvE completely separate.

This has to be the sadest progression of development events in wow's history, not that i am against the final product, but rather i find the journey to get here completly pointless and time wasting...

    SHADOWLANDS=WOD2

read me now, quote me later, lets hope the next time they learn their lesson as they said every single expansion they messed up,next one will be a winner for sure

Does anyone know if the covenant armor sets / xmog will be account wide ? Or just usable by one character ?

Pelagos still has the extra potency conduit doesn’t he? Why not fix that and then look if the mastery and versatility procs are too strong.
