Shadowlands Lo-Fi Tracks

Shadowlands PvP Rewards

Since we implemented an updated design for Shadowlands PvP gearing into the Beta this week, we’ve seen several requests for a more-detailed explanation of the intentions behind the system.

Previously in the Shadowlands Beta, we tested a design where Conquest served as both the currency for the Great Vault and the currency for purchasing PvP gear from the vendors, with a weekly cap. From the outset, two of our main goals with PvP gearing in Shadowlands were:

  • Give players more direct control over their gearing by spending earned Conquest at PvP vendors, with an accessible cap and catch-up system.
  • Allow the Great Vault to supplement PvP gearing for Rated players, with a rewards track that is closely aligned to other organized endgame activities (Mythic Keystone dungeons, Raiding).

However, in Beta testing, we found that because by definition Conquest can’t be earned after hitting the weekly cap, using the same currency for both systems made capping Conquest and earning Conquest gear take much more effort than had been the case in past expansions’ iterations of the Conquest system.

In the live game, we recently updated Honor to be a currency that is rewarded by all PvP activities, including Rated ones. So in this design, we’ve shifted the Great Vault to require Honor from Rated activities only. Earning Honor through Rated PvP each week will result in a valuable reward from the Great Vault, and that allows us to detach Conquest from the Great Vault and place the Conquest cap much lower.

This means that players who do Rated PvP will earn their purchases from the PvP vendor much faster, and since Honor from Rated activities is uncapped, those who are really into PvP can continue to progress towards unlocking the second and third Great Vault options after capping Conquest for the week.

As the Beta winds down, please know that we greatly appreciate all of the testing and player feedback we’ve received since focused PvP testing began in the Shadowlands Beta. Thank you for all of your forum posts and tweets and bug reports and Youtube videos. We’re really looking forward to the PvP scene in this expansion.

    So...

Currently, I can get conquest from unranked, random BGs, and overtime it builds up to where I can acquire Gladiator gear. Is this changing at all in Shadowlands? I'm worried I won't be able to get the gladiator appearance (not elite) without ranked pvp.

On a side note, the pvp elite armor sets look pretty good, but the actual pve raid sets (including M) are trash..

Stop trying to force us to do rated pvp already.. RBGs is a dead scene and arena is simply not fun for some.

But who cares about people who enjoy random bgs right, just screw them over like you always do.

I'll take the current system over this one.

I just want to spam random Bgs and be rewarded for it T_T
By losing 70% of them? Doesn't sound fun to me

Alliance probably loses more, but many of us can’t simply afford to spend 30 mins in queue in one hour to do a couple of bgs. I hate playing bgs as alliance but without mercenary mode I would have probably completely stopped doing PvP, my sessions are too short to be wasted in queues (that’s also why I basically play healer or tank in M+).

That's what I understand too, and it just plain sucks. I will forever be puzzled as to why they felt they needed to obliterate the pvp gearing system they had in WoD and just split/ merge//reinvent everything all the time about it, every single expansion.

I don't quite understand this change, can someone explain it to me?
Before was honor for PVP, conquest for Rated PVP (As we're used to)
Now it's Honor for PVP, Rated Honor for Rated PVP (New and improved)

... To me it sounds like exactly the same thing, just with another name? ... Am I dumb?

So I see a large portion of the player population (and I agree with them) asking for an incentive for random BGs because it is the most fun, and nothing is done in that direction. Since the beginning of rated.
A lot of us don't give 2 shts about rated pvp, and especially arenas. You can make them earn cash prizes, air it on TV, it doesn't change anything. We want BG love.

Basically it's an extra thing you can earn through rated PvP after Conquest caps. Because currently if you cap Conquest, which doesn't take very long, there's not any real reason to continue doing rated PvP other than grinding rating, which a lot of people don't care about and also stops mattering after a certain point. This gives you a reward for continuing to play rated after you've finished capping conquest.

Seems like a good change honestly, puts more rewards into rated PvP which considering there really haven't been any rewards in a very long time I'm a fan of this change.

The majority of people don't enjoy random BGs and only do them when they're required. Did you see all the backlash about Blood of the Enemy being a reward for BGs? And that wasn't even that much of a grind all things considered.

Random BGs aren't going anywhere, they just aren't adding rewards, which seems fine. Rewards should be given for accomplishing something, killing a raid boss, clearing a dungeon, or winning a competitive PvP match. Random BGs aren't an accomplishment because they don't require any amount of skill or effort and can be literally AFK'd, so adding more rewaards there doesn't really make much sense.

But.... you get honor from rated PVP as it stands now? During, and after the conquest cap, you still get bg/arena and HK honor..

What difference is there now? Other than changing the word "Conquest" to "Rated Honor"

It also makes no sense for people who primarily do that content to have the worst gear for that content. They really should just remove gear as a factor completely and be done with it.

Everyone says this yet when I play BG's for some reason or another Alliance seems to win a lot.

It seems that honor you CAN earn via battlegrounds is of great value to upgrade the gear you get in Arena!
So spaming BG's is not bad im kinda happy

So, no pvp honor vendor after all for non-rated pvp? And we get to know that 2 days before launch? You've got to be kidding me.

You just want to force PVPers doing rated stuff because participation is **t? At that point just remove non rated and add a "Random RBG" queue in game.

There goes the hype for endgame shadowlands. I played random BGs since BC and quit arena in WotLK (after spamming rated pvp for 3 years). Pillar hugging simulator is just fun for so long.

The only way to have decent unranked pvp gear is if there is a pvp stat.
This is a nice compromise, no?

Unranked BGs give honor (at least) to upgrade the gear.

You could, but at the same time you'll be earning honor in Arena and Rated Battlegrounds so you wouldn't need regular battlegrounds. If I recall too the gear you earn from Arena / Rated is the same as the Great Vaults and requires Conquest Points to upgrade. Honor only upgrades the regular gear you can buy from battlegrounds.

Are you sure? I think honor is used to upgrade every PvP piece. Not only "random Battleground gear"

You are right. I forgot they changed it at some point. So essentially what happens is PvP goes from Rank 1-7 which caps at 197 and can be upgraded with honor. You can get Conquest gear that has 2 ranks and goes from 190-200. So any gear you buy with Conquest you earned from Arena's / Rated Battlegrounds can be used to upgrade those two pieces of gear. Basically meaning any honor you get from earning it for the Great Vault can be easily used towards those upgrades and still not needing regular battlegrounds.

This is the single greatest change I've ever seen to PVP gearing. Just got done watching Stoopzz's video on this edit and I have to say, I've been playing WoW for 15 years and this is the most excited I have ever been for an expansion. I can honestly say this might be the best PVP gearing system ever launched. Arena matters, RGBs matter, random BGs matter, pvp gear is BiS for pvp, you have OPTIONS for how you acquire gear, alt gearing is fast and easy to catchup making it a super alt-friendly expansion. I'm literally thrilled to play!

You can just spam arena all day long and earn conquest, rating, and honor and be golden brother!
