Level Anew with Threads of Fate

Shadowlands offers a new leveling experience with Threads of Fate. This new game mode allows you to level your other characters in the Shadowlands by selecting a Covenant prior to level 60, choosing which zones you want to level up in regardless of level, and earn rewards to benefit your Covenant as you level up. Along the way, you’ll have access to some of your Covenant’s amenities including flight paths, signature abilities, and you can get a head start on earning your Covenant’s Renown by depositing Anima you collect into their reservoir.

Choose Your Destiny

To explore this new adventure-style mode, you must reach level 60 and complete the first chapter of your Covenant Campaign (Kyrian: “Among the Kyrian,” Necrolord: “Loyal to the Primus,” Night Fae: “For Queen and Grove!,” and Venthyr: “Sinfall”). Threads of Fate will become accessible to your level 50 to 59 characters once they complete the quest, “Stand as One” given by Anduin Wrynn during the Maw’s introductory questline. After completing “Stand as One,” you’ll be transported to Oribos where you can speak with Fatescribe Roh-Tahl to choose leveling with the Threads of Fate option.

Tip: Having second thoughts on how you want to progress your new character? You can choose to instead replay the storyline when you speak with Fatescribe Roh-Tahl, however, once you choose Threads of Fate, you can’t go back on it.

Once you’ve selected Threads of Fate, you’ll be instructed to pick any of the four Covenants for your character and choose which zone you want to continue your adventure in. Upon entering one of the zones, you’ll notice that the main story quests will be marked as complete, flight paths will unlock, and you’ll receive a progress bar quest that credits experience. Fill the progress bar by completing any side quests, World Quests, Bonus Objectives, Rare Elites, and defeating dungeon bosses. Note that War Mode won’t offer more bonuses and defeating enemy or random creatures will not grant credit toward the progression bar. After you complete your progression bar quest, return to Fatescribe Roh-Tahl in Oribos to turn it in for a large experience gain and select another zone to complete.

When you reach level 60, you’ll finish your Threads of Fate playthrough and will be able to continue earning Anima and your Covenant’s favor for rewards and prepare for end-game activities.

How about let us skip the damn Maw scenario. It's dreadful.

It's certainly not worth playing a second time. I had hoped we could skip it like with every scenario since WoD.

But for the freedom Threads of Fate give I gladly endure the intro scenario multiple times.

This is awful, don't do it. It's a miserable leveling experience. If you do it, dungeon grind and do WQs for anima. Anything else is a waste of your time.

I haven't tried it yet, so it may be horribly unbalanced, but this is a VERY cool idea. I was just saying how I was enjoying the initial path through leveling, but was already dreading a second playthrough. This sounds like a godsend, being able to have each character focus on the Covenant I actually want.

Only thing I want now, is a means of skipping the "Escape from the Maw" scenario. That, or let us mount up during it, because it's hella slow.

Don't think I'll be playing an Alt anytime soon anyways... Just started Revendreth on my Main...!

I can stomach the intro questline for maybe 3 more characters, but after that I'd appreciate being able to skip it entirely.

Have you tried it out? Someone mentioned that it’s similar to Adventure mod in Diablo 3.

Is it going to be quicker just questing through each zone? The problem is that the zones are so linear you cannot even skip a particular zone. Like take an alt that wants to join the Venthyr convenient. I’ll have to quest through the first game zones before I can start the Venthyr. I’ll be doing that most likely after hitting 60. Am already half way to 58 and just started questing in Ardenwald.

It is a bit like Adventure Mode in D3, but far slower and awful (imo).

I kinda liked the maw intro, also i'll be trying this mode out on my next toon.

Unless they recently hotfixed it then make sure to switch to threads right before you hit 60 so you aren't forced to finish the story if you level by campaign.

So it is just faster to level up questing through each zone?

The whole Maw is terrible. I really really really dislike that place.

I can stomach the maw, but the intro is horrible after a few times through it. It's so much forced RP / slow walking / listening to the same story I've already heard that it's just painful.

It wouldn't be nearly as bad if you could mount. If you want to make the design decision to not allow mounts in the Maw, fine, but the intro area is an entirely separate instance from the actual Maw. You can come up with any number of excuses to hand wave not being able to mount in the max level version.

The intro itself isn't bad setting up the story(although it's nowhere near as good as WoD's intro), but it definitely has zero replayability.

The beginning Maw part is not even a scenario though. It's like the beginning tanaan part in WoD where you do quests. I highly doubt they will ever let you skip this.

Well, you could skip tanaan though, so maybe we get something similar like that.

Skipping the maw intro seems like one of those QoL things that come in a .1 or .2 patch.
