The Great Push - New Mythic+ Tournament

We’re thrilled to announce details on our first competitive dungeon one-off tournament of the year. Welcome to The Great Push, coming May 28-30!

For over fourteen years, we’ve sought to explore new ways to push the limits of competitive World of Warcraft. With The Great Push, our first one-off tournament of the year, we are bringing a new style of competitive dungeon running distinct from the foundations set by the Mythic Dungeon International (MDI). Instead of teams fighting to beat their opponent’s time, The Great Push is focused on teams pushing keys as high as they can, striving to out survive their competitors and be crowned the champion!

How The Great Push Works

  • The Great Push stands separate from the MDI. Any team of five players can register for their shot at the $20,000 (USD) prize pool!
  • Teams will compete in the initial qualifier phase, the Proving Grounds, on May 22-23, where teams will be given two dungeon keystone combinations to push to the highest difficulty they can reach on the tournament realm.
  • The top six teams from the qualifier will be invited to the main tournament, where they will compete across the different Shadowlands Dungeons to push their keystones as high as possible.
  • The winning team will be the one who has the highest overall score for dungeons pushed and will be crowned the champion.
  • There are no pre-requisites required to play in the tournament, teams can sign up for The Great Push through May 17!

The tournament will be broadcast live on YouTube and Twitch, and players will also be able to stream their perspectives during the tournament, including their time in the Proving Grounds. You can choose to follow your favorite team and players, while keeping up with the casters for the overall standings throughout the weekend.

Looking Forward

Meanwhile, be sure to tune in to the MDI Global Finals where teams will battle for $300,000 USD on April 23-25, only on YouTube. With Season 1 featuring some of the hardest-fought dungeon runs imaginable, including the closest dungeon finish in MDI history, 2021 is gearing up to be the Mythic Dungeon International’s best year ever. Subscribe to the Warcraft YouTube and don’t forget to follow the WoW Esports Twitter, for the chilliest chills and dankest memes in all of Azeroth. We’ll see you in the Dungeon Finder!

WoW is just not a game well-oriented toward eSports, and Blizzard has been trying to push rope on this for over a decade now ever since they tried getting people hyped up with Arena eSports (I have always felt sorry for the poor fucks hired to commentate Arena and MDI eSports because that shit sounds like the kind of thing that would make me consider the pros and cons of a lobotomy via ballpoint pen).

WoW doesn't work as an eSport because there's no sense of balance. eSports are interesting when the meta allows for numerous strategies and picks, turning it into a game of feints and feeling out the other team's ability. eSports in games like WoW and Overwatch are Cookie Cutter Meta Team A versus Cookie Cutter Meta Team B almost unanimously. There's a reason Blizzard's eSports have been in freefall while LoL, CS:GO, and COD remain strong performers, and the harder they try to shove a square peg into a round hole, the worse their games suffer for it.

Dungeons have become boring and uninspired in terms of map design. Very rarely does a modern WoW dungeon feel like an enemy stronghold or a location that could be out there in the world, they feel like maps that have been designed with performance in eSports in mind. This is best exemplified with The MOTHERLODE!!, a literal circle with boss chambers along the way. Blizzard's modern dungeon design philosophy has been so exceptionally uninspiring that I can't be assed to push into Mythic anymore, not only because they skullfucked drop rates and how much gear you get from the weekly chest, but also because it doesn't feel like I'm pushing into enemy territory, it feels like I should be discussing with my team whether to peek banana.
tf are you talking about regarding the weekly chest? lol its WAY better than it has ever been. plus while gear in m+ is slightly lower you can upgrade any levels gear now so who cares. at this point youre just complaining to complain. and WoWs dungeons have NEVER felt like pushing into enemy territory lol the only one maybe was a vanilla dungeon.....cant think of many more

No I think it is a community issue, 100%. Just look at how perverted raid comps look in classic. That is what an truly unbalanced game looks like. SL balance is really good, with some exceptions. DH and mage, and one of them was even more OP just due to a bug.
There will always be a class that is 1% better than the all others, and it is played in the MDI, and then everyone thinks this class is required. WoW is just a math problem, and it is near impossible to achieve multiple "optimal" solutions.

    Can we get premade chars?
Or do i have to buy 2400 rating and mythic denathrius first to compete?
My first char is still 223 ilvl without pvp.

You could view m+ as long raid encounters?

No idea, price pools are actually pretty competitive with viewer numbers in mind.

And I could view an entire major league sports season as one long game with extended intermissions, but that wouldn't make it true.

I don't play WoW for at least 4 years now and I'm insanely excited to see this tournament. I watch the MDI and the world first race every single time, I love everything PvE really, but you know, you can't please everyone.

All the people/players have left is asmongold at this point to appeal to your average joe.

also 20k is the total prize pool... actual first place is probably 10k then split 5 ways...
Then watch asmontard and let people enjoy their mdi who like it. Not everythin has to cater to you.

If it's anything like MDI you will have 229 ilvl premades on the tournament realm.

MDI is not sponsored by Blizzard, so there are not as many rules and method can get away with that, however Blizzard are pretty strict when it comes to their tournaments, so they will not allow Method to compete in that manor...imo.

So your logic is that no esports should happen if videos already exist? So one esport event per game is allowed? Lol.

MDI is sponsored and put on by Blizzard. In order to be eligible you have to e-mail id/documents to a Blizzard e-mail address. The do run some of the stuff through MLG which is owned by Activision-Blizzard. The same as this event is using the MLG system to run it. "The Great Push" is also being run under the MDI label.

Id rather watvh the MDI than any boring sports match.

Nobody is invested in throwaway template characters on the tournament realm.
Oh this is most certainly a test platform for trying out something different in response to all the critism of the MDI and its probably lackluster viewership.

And the push to as high as possible keys will probably make this more interesting then the MDI where everything is way to solved.
Don't expect much better class diversity tho, WoW is still WoW.

No metas exist because the average person is horrible at all aspects of the game (aka you) and needs them inorder to do anything.
