The Great Push - New Mythic+ Tournament

We’re thrilled to announce details on our first competitive dungeon one-off tournament of the year. Welcome to The Great Push, coming May 28-30!

For over fourteen years, we’ve sought to explore new ways to push the limits of competitive World of Warcraft. With The Great Push, our first one-off tournament of the year, we are bringing a new style of competitive dungeon running distinct from the foundations set by the Mythic Dungeon International (MDI). Instead of teams fighting to beat their opponent’s time, The Great Push is focused on teams pushing keys as high as they can, striving to out survive their competitors and be crowned the champion!

How The Great Push Works

  • The Great Push stands separate from the MDI. Any team of five players can register for their shot at the $20,000 (USD) prize pool!
  • Teams will compete in the initial qualifier phase, the Proving Grounds, on May 22-23, where teams will be given two dungeon keystone combinations to push to the highest difficulty they can reach on the tournament realm.
  • The top six teams from the qualifier will be invited to the main tournament, where they will compete across the different Shadowlands Dungeons to push their keystones as high as possible.
  • The winning team will be the one who has the highest overall score for dungeons pushed and will be crowned the champion.
  • There are no pre-requisites required to play in the tournament, teams can sign up for The Great Push through May 17!

The tournament will be broadcast live on YouTube and Twitch, and players will also be able to stream their perspectives during the tournament, including their time in the Proving Grounds. You can choose to follow your favorite team and players, while keeping up with the casters for the overall standings throughout the weekend.

Looking Forward

Meanwhile, be sure to tune in to the MDI Global Finals where teams will battle for $300,000 USD on April 23-25, only on YouTube. With Season 1 featuring some of the hardest-fought dungeon runs imaginable, including the closest dungeon finish in MDI history, 2021 is gearing up to be the Mythic Dungeon International’s best year ever. Subscribe to the Warcraft YouTube and don’t forget to follow the WoW Esports Twitter, for the chilliest chills and dankest memes in all of Azeroth. We’ll see you in the Dungeon Finder!

a massive out of players are already pushed out based on the fact that a +26 timed video exist on youtube. ZZzZZZZzZZZZ and your average/above-average player is still doing +15~20 for their KSMs

an interesting aspect would be if all players were placed "solo" as in...(by themselves with no team) into random pools of other players. Then we can call it "The Great Carry" competition which would honestly... be possibly entertaining maybe and show off the struggles of what your average player deals with in pugs on a daily basis... oh and invite WoWvendor.com and Wowcarries

It's fine to throw shit out this as hypotheticals but the reality is that very few players would actually want to participate in this kind of tournament. I just don't see something like this happening.

Emotional? Your ideas are pointlessly cynical, banal and totally disinteresting. That's not expressing an emotion, that's telling you that you're a boring person with (imo) a shitty opinion. You are a random dude with a keyboard posting on a fan forum for WoW. Your opinion isn't worth more than anybody else's; while you're free to feel however the fuck you want about Blizzard's decisions on how they market their video game, I'm inclined to believe that a company that makes billions of dollars a year knows a little bit more about what does work for their game than the innumerable armchair game developers on this website.
Blizzard has been the laughing stock of the eSports scene for quite a while, as they've fumbled and failed to make a platform and keep the platform. It's no doubt the pandemic has negatively impacted their efforts, but very clearly, they have been failing even before that.

You remember what happened between them, DOTA and Steam? They sure did, and tried to do something about it and now look at them. HOTS is on cruise control much like how Overwatch is. Hearthstone is their only PvP project that receives constant updates and attention, but it's telltale how well that's going over for the HS department since most of that attention goes straight to monetization.

But since you want to get philosophical about it.. Cynicism is the incorrect projection here. What you're looking for is pessimism if you are trying to call me apathetic, "boring" and negative. And what's wrong with being "banal" about this? Are you saying I'm in the majority here on this discussion? I see Blizzard's attempts for what they are; futile. You're the one over here flipping the hell out over a supposed "disinteresting" (correction: uninteresting) opinion.

See? Emotional. Now, you're way up there while I'm down here. Let's meet in the middle.

No, I'm saying that money can be put to better things. Things that don't make them the laughing stock of an entire niche community.

It takes an impressive amount of cognitive dissonance to say that you're not being cynical after providing a textbook example of cynicism. This has nothing to do with philosophy or emotions or any other random whataboutisms I'm sure you'll materialize out of thin air. Your take sucks and there is verifiable evidence that reality is contrary to your beliefs.

Every business does... Welcome to economics?

Also, the e-sports team is different from the DEV team. So if the actual game is suffering its not because the e-sports team decided to create a new event...

Sponsorship. It might not be that common with WoW but other e-sports have team sponsors that clearly rely on some sort of viewer number. The same as in racing where sponsors can pay for logo/name on the car when most people won't see it while it is going 100+ miles an hour. The more popular something is the more money is made from advertisements, partnerships, endorsements etc. While that might not benefit the individual team or player it usually means that compensation increases.

These are all things that not specific to WoW though since WoW e-sports are relatively basic.

You've no idea what you're talking about and it's funny lol

    cyn·i·cism
    /ˈsinəˌsizəm/
    noun
    1.
an inclination to believe that people are motivated purely by self-interest; skepticism.

    What you're looking for is this;
    pes·si·mism
    /ˈpesəˌmizəm/
    noun
a tendency to see the worst aspect of things or believe that the worst will happen; a lack of hope or confidence in the future.
"the dispute cast an air of deep pessimism over the future of the peace talks"

You're speaking to somebody who knows philosophy. Sorry bro, an encyclopedia ain't gonna give you an upper hand when you don't know how to use the words.

Look man, what Blizz is doing is a waste of their time, talent and money. Whether you like it or not.

I have no interest in pathetic pedantic arguments with somebody who thinks "you're speaking to somebody who knows philosophy" is a valid rebuke for anything. Get real.

    Have a nice day.

If you take out the definitions, which you definitely grazed over, it's only 2 small paragraphs.

And I have gotten real lol. I've been speaking to you factually, where you have been speaking to me emotionally.

But anyways, to keep things on topic, I do believe if Blizzard really truly wants to get into the eSports scene for WoW, they're going to have to move on back to PvP. But they've been dead set on keeping PvP as a mini game for the longest time now. Fuck, even battle pets gets more than PvP does lol.

Sadly, Blizz is going to have to ditch their dreams of being big in eSports if they know what's good for the health of their company. Or they can make another fad game like HOTS 5 years late and suffer, again. Really surprised they haven't done a Battle Royale yet. Then again, that will probably come out in 2 more years lol

This 100%. This should of never been turned into a esport

It would be for the best if they shut it down. I really hope they move on to making games people care about. No more of this lootbox fest with fake, half scripted eSports events used as adverts for said lootbox slot machines. Enough of trying to make a small, niche endgame mode bigger than it really is. Nobody watches this stuff.

Absolutely. eSports do nothing good to communities. People don't even watch them FFS, they just look at the stats and strats so they can be spazzy in-game and force it on everybody.

Just because there is a price pool, does not mean that you need to be able to make a living off of it.

Really? So metas exist not due to actual math but because content creators and guides think X is better than Y? Dude, better don't go to class discords, those sheep have everything broken down into numbers!!
I mean dude, you sound like a neighbor who is angry at the kids because they enjoy their time differently than they were "Back in a day we used to go out and collect unexploded bombs in the back yard! Those were they days! Damn kids these days"

Amount of boomers in this forum moaning about M+ is crazy. Being this jaded and having so strong opinions about something you just heard about or don't even understand is wow. So many things to hate: Streamers, guides, esports, anything else which is not their favorite expansion, people who can play the game for longer than they, kids, rio, warcraft logs.
