Prepare for Lift Off: Get Ready for Flying in Chains of Domination

Upon completing a quest contained within the "The Last Sigil" storyline, you’ll be rewarded with Memories of Sunless Skies. This consumable item allows all characters on your account with Expert Riding Skill to fly in Bastion, Maldraxxus, Ardenweald, and Revendreth!

Read on to see what you can do right now to ensure you hit the ground running so you can start soaring in Chains of Domination.

Reach Renown Level 40
Your covenant is the wind beneath your wings, so you’ll need to prove your utmost loyalty to them by earning Renown Level 44 prior to lift off. Make sure that you are at or reach Renown Level 40 before Chains of Domination goes live, so that your efforts go directly into the levels that will become available with the content update.

If you’re struggling to reach Renown Level 40 prior to the release of Chains of Domination, note that when the content update goes live previous sources of Renown will grant more and at a higher rate than currently.

Complete Your Covenant Campaign
Before you unfurl your wings, you must progress through the chapters within the Chains of Domination campaign, specifically Chapter 4: "The Last Sigil." This chapter unlocks when you reach Renown Level 44, accessible within the second week of Chains of Domination. There are currently nine chapters to complete, and you can check your current progress by opening your Map & Quest Log (hotkey: l), where it will display on the top right of the active window.

Kyrian | Necrolord | Night Fae | Venthyr

If you are unable to complete all of the current chapters, you’ll be able to play through the newest storylines in Chains of Domination so long as you’ve finished your covenant’s introductory questlines and unlocked the Runecarver. You’ll still want to complete any of the skipped chapters when you can, as they are a reliable source of Renown which you’ll need to unlock the ability to fly and other coveted rewards.

Soar the Skies in Style
Your heroic deeds on the behalf of your covenant will also reward you with a mount fit for the most decorated covenant champions upon reaching Renown 45. Kyrian players will glide on the backs of the elysian aquilon, night fae will ride upon majestic wolf serpents, necrolords will charge into battle on corpseflies, and venthyr will take to the skies on newly awakened stoneborn.

Keep an eye on worldofwarcraft.com/news for more information on flying and the covenant mounts coming in the Chains of Domination content update, when you’ll be able to earn your wings and explore the Shadowlands from a whole new perspective.

Two weeks into the first big content patch is early for flying. For those of you that "quit" in this thread, do everyone including yourself a favor and stay away from MMO, fully quit the game and don't come to the fansite about it.

Does seem with them making posts like this that 9.1 is close.

If these people cant be bothered to do simple story lines and current content (which give you renown) don't think they will enjoy grinding away from rep to do heroic dungeons in an out dated game. Also lol at BC being better than shadowlands, its better than vanilla sure but there is a reason SO MANY changes were made to the game.
And I assume it was to cater to and give handouts to players like you so you feel special at all levels of content right? Have you ever heard of less is more?

I don't understand the catch up mechanic. I haven't played in a while and I changed covenants. So my stuff is probably sub 10. Does that mean I can only do, say, dungeons until a certain point and then only the 2 a week from there?

There’s lots of catch up mechanics. It’s easy to get to max renown - just play the game

Can't wait to fly. Would love to get a 9.1 release date in a blue instead of stuff I already know though

There is absolutely no grind to renown and if you aren't caught up you are getting it all the time from random sources. At least get a little bit informed before you start shitposting.

It is crazy how some people honestly believed patch 9.1 wouldn't come out until late Q3 or early Q4 just because of classic and share holders.

You get 3 a week if you do the covenant campaign + souls + 1000 anima. Then if you’re less than 40 (or 38 if you have finished the campaign and have souls/anima quests) then you can get renown from raid bosses, world bosses, dungeons, callings and pvp (maybe)

Is this sarcasm? 40 has been obtainable for months which means everyone but the most recent adopters of the expansion would be at most 11 behind. Because 2 for current week and the what 9 from the campaign. It isn't a grind in the slightest. There are also catch up mechanics specific to the patch.

Huh? Every character of mine, even the freshest, went to 40 easily. You get renown for everything. One of them is only played 30 minutes each week for weeklies (worldboss, 1000 anima, souls) and some emissaries whenever I have time/want to do them - he is at 38 after 3 weeks. You probably have no clue about it and just want to cry around, again.

Doesn’t cost anything all you have to do is the campaign quests

Funny thing is how many people on this forum complain about SL 24/7 and now we can see that they or never played SL or have no clue about it...

You do know that even if you "yes-life" this, you can easily get to 40, right? World bosses currently grant Renown. Callings also can give Renown. Dungeon bosses can give Renown, too.

Seriously, the only way you're not at or near 40 at this point in time is if you're not playing at all. And that means you not being at Renown cap would be your fault, not of the game's.

Hey retard, the complaint is that Blizzard is artificially gating content. In BC you can just buy flight at max level with no hoops to jump through. With how long SL has been out without a content update it’s not surprising they’re giving us flight now rather than 9.2

I cleared BC when it was current, I feel no desire to go back, while difficult at the time it is far from difficult now. The community I was a part of back then have all moved on, and the content isn't fresh or new anymore so nothing on that front either. Literally has nothing to do with catering, or handouts. While I no longer mythic raid due to the time investment, I still managed to get KSM, something harder than anything BC has to offer, so you can take that snarky point away to.

If anything BC as a whole is a handout to people so lacking in skill they need content that is over a dozen years old and of significantly less difficulty to overcome. Enjoy your "feel special at all levels of content" tru, I know its the best you can do.

Hey Mr so scared you had to make a new account to insult me, flight paths are better than they were in BC, and flying is not required like it was in BC (literally, several places were unreachable without flying, because the game required it). Plus it is easier to get flying/renown than it was to get epic flying (at least in the original BC, I have negative desire to play BC classic).

It isn't artificially gating anything as you can still access everything you dolt, it is at worst artificially slowing things down, something BC did quite well on its own.

TBC was over a decade ago. They have always stated that flight was coming in patch 9.1. We have known this since the beginning of information about Shadowlands. It will only take two weeks and a day to unlock flying if I remember correctly. That isn't that bad and having flying wouldn't suddenly keep people playing who otherwise quit.

Been that way since WoD, it’s not a huge deal with no flying - means ground mounts get some use! Also it’s always been their plan to give us flying in 9.1

Blizzard is slowly releasing details about patch 9.1 trying to keep players appeased over the fact that Castle Nathria will have been a 7-8 month tier when it is all said and done.

Where is planet you came for? Where did you land? Where are remains of space ship?

On my ultra uber casual alts I get to 40 Renown is 3 weeks, but it's doable in week for people focusing on this. All I did were emissary quests (~30 minutes a day, but I did 3 at once and often they stack), one LFR raid clear, covenant campaign and 5 minutes long Maw quest 3 times. That's literally it.

    LOL. Wut?

Obviously you couldn't fly in Vanilla, since Vanilla didn't have flying. But you could absolutely fly on day 1 on every other expansion until they removed flying. Granted you had to level to max (other than Cata, which you could fly through the leveling process), but that's it. And if you did that the first day you were flying.

So no idea what you're talking about.
