Unholy Death Knight Feedback
An upcoming PTR hotfix (unsure of timing) will increase the damage of Portal to the Underworld and proc rate of Armies of the Damned.

One other set of changes is meant to help free up a little space in the rotation, or at least get back to the point where you're not frequently wasting resources due to not having enough time to spend them all. We're reducing a few effects that inject large amount of resources into the rotation (such as Pestilent Pustules) and increasing overall damage slightly. The net result is that people playing busy builds like Castigator/Pestilent Pustules/Infected Claws will likely still be using most or all of their global cooldowns on abilities, but will less often be in a state where they ignore or overcap Runic Power. [Feedback] Marksmanship in 7.1.5
An upcoming PTR hotfix will increase the proc rate of Marking Targets significantly. Our expectation is that in stationary situations, it should be straightforward to have a Vulnerable ready when you need or want to spend Focus on Aimed Shot, and the primary factor in full or near-full Aimed Shot effectiveness is good Focus management. In addition, a Vulnerable window that's ineffective due to movement, freshly spawned targets, or similar issues will be much less punishing.

We are also testing a subtle change that should address one of the flow issues that's been discussed. If Marking Targets appears very shortly (a split-second) before an Arcane Shot or Multi-Shot cast, it will no longer be consumed by the cast. When you're using Arcane Shot to build focus on a target that's Marked, if Marking Targets lights up, you will more reliably be able to react and cast Marked Shot, rather than overwriting the Mark with a new one. Micro-Holidays in Patch 7.1.5

Patch 7.1.5 brings with it a variety of updates and new content. One of these new additions is what we’re calling micro-holidays. Each one is meant to make the world feel more alive without making players feel like they need to participate for big rewards—while still providing some more variety and fun.

  • Call of the Scarab - January 21-23 - To commemorate the first ringing of the Scarab Gong on January 23, 2006, players will be able to relive a portion of the Ahn’Qiraj gate opening by collecting items for turn-in. The winning faction will then be able to claim bragging rights and have their faction flag hang over the gates until the next Call of the Scarab micro-holiday event.
  • Hatching of the Hippogryphs - February 23 - Those who head to Feralas will be able to bear witness to the yearly hatching of the hippogryphs. You may even make a little friend for the day.
  • March of the Tadpoles - April 5 - Each year, the Winterfin murlocs allow their tadpoles free reign over their village. You can make a difference by adopting your favorite, feeding it, and protecting it from nearby predators.
  • Volunteer Guard Day - April 28 - Step into the shoes of a guard in the major cities with a /salute and you’ll get to serve and protect the city just like them. Stay vigilant and watch out for any invaders.
  • Spring Balloon Festival - May 10-12 - Several of Azeroth’s characters – some of whom you might recognize – are giving tours of Azeroth in their hot air balloons. You’ll enjoy their commentary and interact with other citizens as you take in the scenery.
  • Glowcap Festival - May 27 - Head to Sporeggar in Zangarmarsh, collect some rare mushrooms, and help the sporelings heal the great mushroom, Fshoo. You’ll gain a bit of Sporeggar reputation for helping them out.
  • Thousand Boat Bash - June 6-8 - Thousand Needles is where the biggest bash on boats can be found in Azeroth. It’s a chance to unwind a little, away from the lurking danger of the Burning Legion.
  • Un’goro Madness - August 10-12 - Dinosaurs are running amok in Un’Goro. Help quell the rampage and you’ll be awarded some temporary evolution buffs.

These holidays are just the beginning and we’ll be adding more even beyond the patch so keep an eye on the calendar!

Hi,has Sargeras truly become a demon (can reform in the Nether) or is he still just a titan with demonic features (horns..)?

Yes. I think there is a lot that goes into this mindset, including the human predisposition to want to blame the game instead of ourselves, and the weirdness that sometimes results when “bet the best I can possibly be” mindset inside the game gets mutated into “lobby the developers to make me better.”

I have also seen players have a really unhealthy reaction to data being presented as a stack rank. When they see their name as #2 beneath a #1, they don’t always stop to analyze whether 2 and 1 are really different. They just see first place and not first place. The visual presentation of data as stacks can be problematic for this reason.

But I think a lot of it comes from a philosophical difference between the following two responses:

  • I could improve my results by 30% just by playing better, so whether or not I am statistically 2% behind another characters is largely in the noise.
  • I could improve my results by 30% just by playing better, but every bit counts, so being even 2% behind another character is relevant.

“Clunky” is one of those words that has just lost a lot of meaning over time. I feel like we all used to use “clunky” to mean a lack of elegance, as if little thought or polish was given to the design. Rather than painstakingly crafting a gourmet meal, the designer just threw a bunch of stuff in the stew pot and didn’t give it much additional thought. Or to switch metaphors, I always imagine a car trying to roll on square wheels. It will get you where you’re going, but inefficiently and with a lot of discomfort, and the alternatives is both obvious and a massive improvement.

To me the things that are most clunky are a general lack of responsiveness (you click, but nothing happens for a bit), or a UI that requires excessive clicking (especially targeting), or bad timing to the flow of something, such as cooldowns all coming up at once, or alternatively long breaks in the cooldown.

The problem with “clunky” and “broken” is that over time they have lost enough meaning that a lot of players just use them now as a generic “I don’t like this.” Low power or dps can be described as clunky, which is pretty different from the original intent (unless it’s something like the rotation requires a lot of weird hoops to jump through to be competitive, in which case the clunkiness and effectiveness may truly be linked).

From a developer perspective, we don’t get much specific, actionable feedback when something is described just as clunky or broken. We don’t know what the specific concerns or complaints are, so we feel like we’re just guessing about how to potentially fix it.

Stepping back a bit, yes, developers should have good intuition about these things and be able to detect problems before they even ship. I also realize that it can be frustrating when you know you don’t like something but can’t quite articulate in game terms what it is. Writing can be hard. Just be patient with us when we can’t read your mind in these situations.

Yes, given enough time and back-and-forth, I can often tease out more useful feedback. I can ask “What do you mean by the term clunky?” I can offer some kind of multiple choice to help the player really zero in on what their feedback really is. But that kind of conversation takes a ton of bandwidth, and when the situation is typically one of us having a conversation with forty, or a hundred, or a thousand of you at once, it’s sort of hard to justify.

I think “look down on” is overly harsh. I’d describe it more as mild frustration ranging to disappointment on our end, especially if the player is also angry and impatient in the same breath in which they are being really vague.

My advice is if you want to be as helpful as possible with your feedback, avoid generic adjectives and intensifiers. Explain as plainly and succinctly as you can what the problem is. Avoid ascribing intention to the developers. Avoid how the change makes you feel, unless emotional resonance is really the issue in question (such as in a story). Don’t make us sift through a haystack of words to find the needle of insight. (Source)

Patch 7.1.5 - Mage Barriers
Mages get two new barrier spells in Patch 7.1.5, complete with new spell animations: Blazing Barrier and Prismatic Barrier.

Glowcap Festival
Glowcap Festival allows players to help keep Fshoo alive in Sporeggar to earn reputation.

  • Head to Sporeggar in Zangarmarsh to take part in this holiday.
  • Mushrooms will spawn around the town, giving you Glowcap and other helpful items:
  • You can purchase all four of the items above from Mycah, the Sporeggar Quartermaster.
  • You can also loot a Pungent Truffle, allowing you to transform into a sporeling for 24 hours.
  • Fshoo spawns periodically, gaining stacks of Fshoo Grow. Each stack increases his size by 1% and health by 100%.
  • Fshoo also loses health at a constant rate, making him harder and harder to heal as the grow stacks appear.
  • Using the items and healing him to keep him alive as long as possible is the objective.
  • When Fshoo dies he will give everyone 50 Sporeggar reputation for every stack of the buff he had.

Un'Goro Madness
Un'Goro Madness allows players to defeat group bosses in Un'Goro Crater to obtain temporary buffs from Dino Mojo.

  • Adaptation - Become strong, like a dinosaur.
  • Adaptation: Poisonous Skin - The caster's skin secrets toxins that will inflict 699 Nature damage to all players within 100 yards every 3 sec.
  • Adaptation: Adrenaline - The caster's adrenal gland is hyperactive. Every 3 sec. the caster's damage dealt is increased.
  • Adaptation: Heavy Footed - The caster is heavy footed. Any time the caster moves, nearby enemies are flung by the shock waves their steps create.
  • Adaptation: Spores - The caster's skin is infested with volatile spores. Every 5 sec. a series of spores are launched at nearby enemies. Anyone caught within 0 yards of the impact will suffer Nature damage.
  • Adaptation: Caustic Blood - The caster is bleeding profusely, every 3 sec. a pool of Caustic Blood forms. Players standing in these pools suffer 838 Nature damage every second.
  • Adaptation: Chronometric Instability - The caster's ties to the timeline are unstable. Many abilities will echo at the same location several seconds later.

Build of the Month - December 2016
Each month or so we will post a couple of hardware setups for those of you who are thinking of upgrading their computer!

All of the parts on this page are Amazon affiliate links. When you purchase your parts through them it helps support the site!

This month
The current SSD prices are fairly flat right now, with most SSDs under $0.50 per gigabyte when on sale.

Depending on how much you want to overclock, you may need to spend a bit more for a better CPU cooler like the NH-D15.

Unless you are doing a lot of video rendering or streaming, you do not need the 6700K and would get more performance from spending that money elsewhere.

Make sure to keep your AMD and Nvidia drivers up to date.
