Patch 8.3 PTR - Vulpera Allied Race Unlock Quest Preview
The most recent update to the PTR has added the quest chain to unlock the Vulpera as a Horde Allied Race. Horde characters who are exalted with the Voldunai can start the quest at the Orgrimmar Embassy.

  • The quest "Guests at Grommash Hold" is given by Ji Firepaw. He has received word that a vulpera caravan has arrived in Orgrimmar and wish to address the Horde. They have requested your presence.
  • You find the Orgrimmar counsel discussing matters of the Horde when you enter, including Thalyssra saying that the vintner refuses to work with the staff provided, and Zuldazar needs additional forces along the coast. Kiro is waiting patiently for you. He gives you the quest "Declaration of Intent and explains that the vulpera are ready to explore the world beyond Voldun. They know that Nisha can't be their only defense against the dangers that await them, and so they wish to join the horde.
  • Kiro explains their intent to Baine, who politely declines their request as meeting the needs of current allies has stretched the Horde thin. He says the vulpera are welcome in Orgrimmar, however.
  • Kiro gives you the quest "New Allies, New Problems" and suggests that you help the vulpera figure out what troubles the Horde so Baine can see their worth.
  • Thalyssra is troubled because arcwine production in Suramar has been difficult, Bladeguard Sonji is troubled by naga on Zuldazar's shores, and Commander Dresh is concerned as peons have vanished during construction on the Crushblow outpost.
  • You return to Kiro, who gives you the quest "No Problem Too Small." He suggests that you and the vulpera help out with these matters, and wants you to meet him in the Twilight Highlands.
  • You find Crushblow outpost is abandoned, and are given the quest "Where Are the Workers?" from Kiro, who suggests using his hyena Sasha to track the scent of the missing peons.
  • You track the peons to the basement of a nearby building where you find they are revolting due to unfit work conditions. Their leader, Foreman Magrok, wants to be warchief! You tell Kiro, who gives you the quests "A little Goodwill", "Worthwhile Repairs", and "Peon Promotions" to try and appease the peons.
  • You promote some peons, collect twilight ore, and use an enlarging totem to grow local wildlife and collect their meat and return to Kiro. He gives you the quest "A Party in Your Honor" and tells you to inform the Foreman that the Horde is throwing a party for the peons at Crushblow. You head back and find the peons partying and Kiro calls it a success. He gives you the quest "Strength and Honor" and tells you to challenge the peon leader to show the true strength of the Horde.
  • Beat up the foreman and then return to Kiro, who gives you the quest "Job's Done" and tells you to let Commander Dresh in Orgrimmar know it's been settled. You inform him and he thanks Baine, who says he cannot take credit for the events. You find Kiro nearby, who gives you the quest "On the Outskirts", telling you to find Nisha in Southern Zuldazar.
  • You find her just as she has dispatched some Naga, and get the quests "We'll Use Their Weapons", "Explosions Always Work", and "Destroying the Source." You plant explosives on some harpoon launchers, collect weapons from the naga, and destroy 3 Nazeshi Powercells to bring down the naga leader's shield. Nisha then gives you the quest "Taking Out the Tidecaller," suggesting you take out the leader while she deals with her brute bodyguard.
  • After killing them, Nisha gives you the quest "Threat Contained" and has you go tell Bladeguard Sonji the news. She also thanks Baine, who seems confused and states that the Horde did not deal with it. You talk to Kiro again, who gives the quest "Meet with Meerah," and are told to meet Meerah in Suramar's vineyards.
  • Meerah is concerned and gives the quest "The Vintner's Assistants" and says that the assistants provided by the Horde are causing production to slow. She has you investigate. You find out one of the incompetent assistants is none other than Nomi, who is sleeping nearby.
  • You return to Meerah, who gives the quest "Playing to Their Strengths," and Meerah suggests that you assign each assistant a role better suited to their strengths. You tell the goblin to collect ingredients, the tauren to stomp the grapes, and Nomi to make the recipe and then inform the vintner of the changes. Meerah gives you the quest "A Particular Process" and suggests you talk to Nomi about making wines that all the races of the Horde can enjoy. Nomi gives the quest "Fermented for the Horde" and wants you to collect ingredients for him.
  • You collect 10 Fermented Fireblooms by purchasing them from the goblin nearby, and 20 Silkwing Fibers from killing the moths outside. Nomi then gives you the quest "Sip and Savor" and has you deliver a sample to the vintner. Completing this quest gives you the toy Nomi's Vintage which lets you fly forward in BfA areas.
  • Meerah gives the quest "Awaiting Our Arrival" and has you return to Orgrimmar. Baine realizes it was the vulpera that helped and says he made a mistake. He gives the quest "New Allied Among Us" and says that even in times of peace the Horde has its problems, and he forgot that they are built on banding together. You then witness him welcome the vulpera into the Horde. Meerah has one final question before the end of the chain, hoping the Horde doesn't eat alpacas.

Then to keep the focus on the BG, the amount of Timewarped Bages for both winning and losing are being doubled to 20 and 10 respectively.

Thank you for your feedback and we’ll see you out there!

  • The following Free Character Moves will be available: US List / EU List

We strongly suggest that any players planning to use a Free Character Move do so as soon as possible. Free Character Moves may be disabled without warning at any time.

Upgrading from Any Digital Version to Collector’s Edition
If you purchase any digital copy of Shadowlands (Base, Heroic, or Epic), and then upgrade to the Collector’s Edition in the future, we will automatically credit you the cost of the digital copy in Blizzard Balance - as long as you enter the Collector’s Edition key before a future deadline. When you enter the key from your Collector’s Edition, we will see the original transaction on your account and the credit will be added. We will have details on this deadline when we have more information to share regarding the Collector’s Edition.

Upgrading from Base Edition to Heroic or Epic Edition then to Collector’s Edition
If you purchase the Base Edition of Shadowlands, then upgrade to the Heroic or Epic Edition, and THEN upgrade to the Collector’s Edition, your Blizzard Balance will be the price you paid for the original Base Edition.

Patch 8.3 PTR - Mechagnome Unlock Quest Chain Preview
The most recent update to the PTR has added the unlock quest chain for Mechagnomes! If you are an Alliance character and have a toon exalted with the Rustbolt Resistance, you can start the chain. SPOILERS AHEAD!

  • The chain starts from Aysa Cloudsinger in the Stormwind embassy. The first quest is "Urgent Care." Aysa wants you to find Kelsey Steelspark in Boralus Harbor as Mekkatorque's condition is dire and they need help!
  • Upon arriving Kelsey says Mekkatorque's pod is powering down and they can no longer hear him speak. His pulse has also slowed, but she has a plan. She gives you the quest "Waning Energy" and asks you to meet her at Proudmoore Keep.
  • When you get there you find the Tidesages working on the Pod, and Kelsey says what we are about to do might not be the most accepted plan, but it better to do it and ask for forgiveness later.
  • You are given the quest "Someone Who Can Help" and Kelsey thinks the Mechagnomes can help and wants to bring the pod to Mechagon Isle. She wants to get the pod on a homing copter that is delivering supplies to the island from Hook Point.
  • You head over to the homing copters and are able to bring one back and route it to send the pod to Mechagon. Kelsey says she probably should have warned Erazmin before she sent it, and suggests they get to the island before it does.
  • When you arrive, Erazmin says it would be his pleasure to help the High Tinker. He suggests you speak to Waren to find out what materials are needed and gives the quest "Junkyard Treasures."
  • Waren gives the quest "The Current Schematic" and says she can modify one of their existing devices to give access to Mekkatorque without disturbing his life preserving functions. She asks you to collect 4 Heat Tolerant Ooze from the scrapbots and scraphounds in the Heaps, and 6 Acquisitioned Machine Parts from the Outflow slimes. She says the chances of crushing the occupant are sub-50 percent.
  • When you turn in the parts, you receive "Voyage to Safety" and find out the homing copter carrying Mekkatorque's pod was taken out by troggs! He says Piston has a vehicle able to handle this task and tells you to meet his crew in Bondo's yard. You then have to take out Rust-Eye the Cleaver on the east coast of Mechagon with Piston and his Mechanospider.
  • You kill the trogg and retrieve the pod, and Piston places it on the platform when you get back. Waren tells you construction proceeds as scheduled and Christy will address the occupant's bio-mechanical integrity. You receive the quest "Better, Stronger..Less Dead" Christy says that King Mechagon might have been crazy, but his minions did have exemplary robotic creation capabilities. She wants you to collect a Neural Accelerator, Omni Electromagnetic Amplifier, and a Flux Energized Servos from erratic units around Mechagon.
  • Upon collecting the parts, Christy says they need modifications and sends you back to Erazmin. He gives you the quest "Him?" He wants you to go around Rustbolt and ask his people what they want in a leader. From what he hears, the High Tinker has always led his people by necessity, never seeking or desiring a crown. Erazmin thinks the gnomes should be united once again!
  • After speaking to the various gnomes, Erazmin says to share the info with Christy, who gives you the quest "Mental Attunement" and asks you to activate the Synchroscope when she tells says so. Christy wants to give Mekkatorque some improvements, but Kelsey says they like him the way he is. You then open the pod and retrieve Mekkatorque!
  • You are then given the quest "A Strong Heart" and told that Mechagon's Annihilotron's heart with serve a new purpose, but you must help the retrieval team get it back here.
  • You meet Kelsey at the entrance to Junkwatt Depot and take out a robot to get the Spark Reactor and deliver it back to Christy. You then activate a defibrillator to revive Mekkatorque with the Spark Reactor attached to his chest. He is confused at first, but then thanks everyone. Kelsey says she knows a way to repay the favor to the Mechagnomes and you get the quest "Ascension" from Mekkatorque. He says the way to repay the Mechagnomes is by helping them take back the remaining parts of their city!
  • You, Mekkatorque, Erazmin, and Kelsey enter the city via a portal nearby and takeout Blastatron X-81. As you walk through the city, Erazmin says that he would love nothing more than to have the Mechagnomes reunite with Gnomeragan and be lead by the High Tinker. Mekkatorque agrees provided Erazmin remains at his side as his counselor and friend. Erazmin accepts and the two prepare to address their people together. You witness the announcement and the gnomes are united, officially bringing the Mechagnomes into the Alliance! (Ending is currently a bit bugged on the PTR)

BlizzCon 2019 - Blizzard Watch Interview Recap
Blizzard Watch sat down with Production Director Patrick Dawson, Senior Exterior Level Designer Sarah Boulian-Verrall, Lead Game Designer Morgan Day and Game Producer Shani Edwards to discuss World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. Here are the highlights and new information from the interview:

  • Tyrande's story will continue. She will be part of the Ardenweald storyline and receive some answers to some questions along with some stuff that can't be revealed due to spoilers.
  • We might learn more about Elune in Ardenweald.
  • The team discussed what they are imagining for the weekly Mythic+ cache. They mention it involving being able to pick between 3 rewards or a currency as a back up plan in case none of the rewards are wanted.
  • Everyone will be funneled into the same area at the beginning of the expansion, but the team is confident they can handle the server stress this time around.
  • As of right now, Allied Races will not be receiving more customization options with the original races.

BlizzCon 2019 - FinalBossTV/Preach Developer Interview Recap
FinalBossTV and Preach sat down with Ion Hazzikostas and Steve Aguilar to ask some questions about World of Warcraft: Shadowlands and some Battle for Azeroth questions as well! Here is the highlights and new information from the interview:

  • Sockets on Benthic gear was not meant to happen, but once it was live it was too late to stop it.
  • Ion agrees that socket relevance is kind of out-of-hand right now.
  • The art team is incredibly excited about Shadowlands as it gave them a chance to design other-wordly things that don't exist on Azeroth.
  • Both active abilities from your Covenant are usable throughout the entire game.
  • You can change your Covenant if you regret your choice, but it will be very costly. (Think Aldor/Scryer switch)
  • There will always be a "best" ability to pick for a spec, even with Covenant abilities, but the team is trying to develop the expansion around each Covenant ability being useful in different situations, much like the question of if a specific class is better than another.
  • They don't want to stack new mechanics on top of the Covenant system like they did with essences and the Heart of Azeroth in Battle for Azeroth. They might add new talents, but are trying to avoid making it more complicated as the expansion goes on.
  • Horde and Alliance are at an armistice. They still cannot party or play together.
  • Anima is used to power your Covenant. There will be a low cap amount that needs to be acquired weekly for optimal power progression, but going above and beyond to collect it will offer utility and cosmetic rewards and not power rewards.
  • The idea for a catch up mechanic with the anima system is placing a returning player or alt into a "catch-up state" until you get caught up, allowing the character to get an entire Covenant talent point from a world quest and such.
  • The team wants you to be able to keep up with anima regardless of your play style.
  • The art team had a really fun time designing Nyalotha.
  • They are still working out how the new customization options will be added to the game, but they are planning a visual update to the character creation system and will add new customization categories as needed.
  • If you want to be optimal you will need to participate in Torghast to an extent. It is where you collect runes for your legendaries, and they want it to provide enough fun replay-ability to make people want to participate.
  • The team wants to work on having more horizontal progression instead of power progression.
  • There is no way to prevent players from wanting to access outside sources to make upgrade choices, but the team wants to work on making sure the power gap of min-maxing and siming is not too large.
  • Tier sets will not be returning in the initial patch of Shadowlands.

BlizzCon 2019 - MrGM Dev Interview Recap
MrGM sat down with Frank Kowalkowski and Steve Danuser to discuss World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. Here are the highlights and new information gathered from the interview:

  • There will be more lore characters that have passed on in Shadowlands that they haven't mentioned yet.
  • The Venthir of Revendreth have taken advantage of the anima drought and taken their higher purpose and transitioned it to something darker. This will be explored in the first raid of the expansion.
  • The original races will keep the same Death Knight starting experience that exists today.
  • Allied races and Pandaren will have a new sliver-of-time Death Knight starting zone that will show a short intro experience, interaction with Bolvar, and then you'll be sent off into the world. It takes place before Sylvanas shatters the helm.
  • Horde and Alliance will have the same narrative experience in Shadowlands.
  • The Heart of Azeroth will not continue into Shadowlands.
  • Bolvar will play a major role in the narrative. We will get to find out what the years spent as the Lich King has done to him and his motives during previous expansions. He acts like a guide to us in the Shadowlands.
  • They are still not sure if any of the dungeons will be mythic only.
  • They are still working out the details on reputations in Shadowlands.
  • The anima drought has caused distrust between the different realms of the Shadowlands.
  • The new starting area is off the coast of Stormheim.
  • Familiar faces will be joining us in the Shadowlands.

BlizzCon 2019 - The Lost Codex Developer Interview - Steve Danuser and Frank Kowalkowski
The Lost Codex sat down with Steve Danuser and Frank Kowalkowski to discuss lore and systems in WoW.

  • Aside from major lore characters who died, the team wanted to throw in minor characters and easter eggs from the past such as "someone's wife in the Barrens."
  • The team is looking into where to best used the Island AI in the future. Procedural generation is something that is used a lot in Torghast.
  • The storyline of Odyn giving his eye to an entity will be developed in Shadowlands.
  • Through adventuring in the Shadowlands we will find out what the deal Sylvanas made with Helya was and the purpose of the lantern, which might not be what people expect.
  • The team will figure out the best way to deal with unlocking Allied Races with the level squish and act accordingly.
  • If you come across a mortal soul in the Shadowlands that you don't recognize you will only see an amorphous shape because you have no frame of reference for it.
  • Some Loa that we have lost will see a return in the Shadowlands, and there are some really cool hooks there. We may find out in particular a specific character that is tied to the Loa and trolls and what his role in the Shadowlands is.
  • The team is still trying to figure out the right cadence for how often you can do Torghast.
  • Certain creatures, such as the owl stewards, are native to the Shadowlands.
  • The Shadowlands is specifically made for mortal beings. Demons souls do not go there.
  • New class-race combos are decided on based on the lore. They like having certain races not have access to every class, but there is always the potential to add new ones.
  • The "stay awhile and listen" moments came from the idea that the team wanted players to be able to learn a bit more about certain characters without having to put it in quest text.
  • The initial story of the Shadowlands doesn't really fit adding Allied Races, but the team is always discussing when to add them and what makes sense for the story.

BlizzCon 2019 - WoW Reddit Developer Interview
r/WoW sat down with Steve Danuser and Frank Kowalkowski for their own interview during BlizzCon 2019! Here are the highlights and new information:

  • The team finds fan reactions to characters super encouraging and it does slightly influence characters in the story provided it still feels like a natural part of the story. (Zekhan)
  • Many people think we only fought manifestations of the Old Gods, but we have in fact killed their forms. Yogg'Saron and C'Thun still have echoes that permeate the world, however.
  • There is a potential for other beings, such as the Old Gods, to go somewhere when they die much like we go to the Shadowlands.
  • The team can take lessons from Classic and see how they might apply to the current game, but in a way that fits.
  • There are many stories that the team would like to dive into, but only when it feels right to the story. Alleria and Turalyon was such an example.
  • The Shadowlands is a huge opportunity to bring back dead major characters and see where they are at now.
  • There are other, unannounced major characters that will make a return in Shadowlands.
  • The team feels that they have a really good story and want to see it through, but knew there would be people on the Horde side that were divided about the direction Sylvanas was going. This is why they ultimately decided to let players pick a side.
  • The reward for Sylvanas loyalists was the one-on-one cutscene you got with her to peek into what was to come.
  • There is currently no version of the loyalist story in Shadowlands, but there could be a branching story with choice in the future.
  • Shadowlands is not the right time for player housing. It's something they continually discuss and may revisit int he future when it makes sense for the expansion.
  • To enable sharding, the entire way the game puts players into the game had to be rewritten.
  • It is possible to allow players to be logged into Classic and BfA at the same time, but the team is still discussing whether or not to enable it.
  • The team calls retail "mainline" internally or by the expansion name.
  • They want to have a pay off for the Tyrande storyline and have some interesting things coming in Shadowlands for it.
  • When creating new main characters, the team makes sure the player character gets to spend personal time with them so the player gets to know the character.
  • The issue for cross faction play isn't necessarily the technical aspects, but it uphends the concept of Warcraft.

BlizzCon 2019 - Ion Hazzikostas Interview
BlizzCon All Access interviewed Ion at the end of the day.

  • Evil is a state of mind
  • Sylvanas's interests aren't always aligned with the living
  • Going to Shadowlands for revenge is beneath her, she has grander aspirations.
  • The pact made with Helya was part of this, there are dots to connect and hints along the way.
  • If you sided with Sylvanas, you carry those memories with you. Maybe she'll remember down the line and it'll influence things.
  • Battle from Azeroth is far from over, we've got another battle ahead.

Warcraft III: Reforged Won't Retcon Story
A recent article from Polygon stated that the Warcraft III: Reforged dev team has decided not to add or lightly retcon the story to give certain characters more time in the spotlight. They came to this decision based on community feedback who loved the story as is. The decision was a natural part of the development process. Click the banner below to read the whole article.
