Xbox 360 is just a less durable Sega Dreamcast.
Its cash-cow is one game, exactly like Dreamcast's Sonic...Halo is Xbox's money-maker and besides that, there isn't a game worth buying for the 360...at least not any already available to other consoles. This wouldn't be such a huge issue for me if the 2 consoles I owned didn't red ring. I gave up after the second. It's a defective system being mass-produced, re-polished, and re-sold over-and-over again. Very similar to Ford in that sense.
Back on topic, Halo IS the ONLY reason xbox ever became as popular as it did, Master Chief is Microsoft's Mario...who's now way past his "point-of-coolness" date and Microsoft needs to find their Link.

Theres no need to but the new ones, and if you where a large company with something people where garunteed to buy would you not release it? The Halo series won't stop being profitable for a while most likely.

It will soon get an even worse stigma than CoD.
I can see it now Halo 4: Modern Combat, or Halo: Space Black Ops.
though one thing i can say is they said they were only ever going to make a trilogy of the "halo" storyline, but not the "Master Chief" storyline, very well him floating towards the new planet (as seen after H3 legendary ending) it may very well be a new story, not including the covenant and the rings of halo...maybe it could be a complete new alien race for Master Chief to demonise, WHO KNOWS!?!
though as with most protagonists in show/movies/games that seem to drag on, they start to become dull, and as much as I fucking hated Halo in the end, Master Chief was always a badass.
