They did say that they wanted everyone that had signed up to beta would get a chance to try it at some point....but theres like 1.7million people signed up on swtor thats alot of people lol.

I would love to get into the beta, not so much to experience all the lore of class stories, but to gauge my computer and how it plays (low vs ultra).

Knowing 2 months in advance that I should upgrade something would be highly welcomed

That statement was retracted. The revised statement apologizing for the quote (to the effect of) "If you haven't gotten into beta yet, you will" was mentioned on Gamebreaker several weeks ago.

BioWare is still trying to get as many people in as possible, to suit their testing needs pre-early-access.

Based on my weekend's worth of playing the game and fidgeting with settings, ultra might be pushing it but I should stress the point the game looked sick even on low and 30fps. I was very happy with its appearance.

That said, if you can build your own, the ~$800 build above is a solid gaming PC - would easily get you to high settings. Ultra may drop your fps but that depends on the game, couldn't tell you for sure. But, you might be able to run ultra on it.

I just bought 2 gtx 560 TI's to run in SLI for my rig. Everything I researched said the 560 ti was an amazing card with great value (not dissing the other manufacturers).

I think it's atleast 50% that's in beta as of now.

They never stopped accepting beta applications; I think it's safe to say that on the contrary they're not even CLOSE to having 50% in the beta weekend/permanent beta. That would require at least 500,000 in numbers, roughly estimated.

It's lame, at some point they stated that everyone who signed up would get in..

I am almost sure they said it at some point. But they probably got surprised by the demand!

I remember that being said somewhere between Gdc and euro gamer as well; I'm sure that Guy probably got fired or took much heat for it. IF Bioware had stopped beta apps back in September and had a testing weekend every week...they MIGHT have gotten most people in. But with November coming up next weekend, there's no way that will happen without an open beta.

It was during a conference a couple months ago .. the speaker (can't remember who) said in closing words, something to the effect of "If you haven't gotten into beta yet, don't worry, you will".

Later BioWare apologized for the over-zealous statement, saying they will try to get as many people involved as possible, but they can't guarantee everyone will get in.

I wish. I have honestly not gotten into a single beta invite...ever, that was considered "closed" and under the NDA. Everything I've been able to participate in are open beta's or pity keys from friends--which in those cases, are usually towards the end of beta anyway.

Although I suspect there's probably more to beta invites (at least in the initial stages) than a lottery, I'm still blaming probability for my 'bad luck'.

Not everyone gets in to test...It's like going to a casino. Everyone WANTS to win but in reality that casino would make no money if that were true.

It sucks, I had Road Runner (Fastest internet you can buy modem) I waited years for a BETA invite. I was registered on there for years. Back when they had Only "Sith Warrior" class with barely any bio. Then a few months ago I downgrade to cricket broad band. (Slowest internet ever, like dial up) I finally get my bet invite. I happily click "Accept" it takes 3 days for it to download the game and did not even download ALL of it. That's when It hit me, I am going to need a serious upgrade.

On the Plus side, it's better not knowing sometimes. Like with Rift, open Beta playing it so many times repeatedly you knew alot about the content before the game launched. Now with Star Wars almost just two months away. I think I can wait in the meanwhile. I'll try to aviod as many spoilers as I can.

Remember, one of the system requirements for WoW (and most online games) is a "broadband internet" connection. Because there is no industry standard on what "broadband" really means, Blizzard defines it as at least 1.5 mbps down / 500 kbps up. So if Cricket has a plan like that (I know Time Warner Cable does, owner of Road Runner) you might look into it.

At a point though, I get sick of feeding quarters into this machine for 2.5 years, especially when the guy who just came to the casino for the first time puts in a coin and wins the jackpot on his first pull lol.

At least very soon beta won't matter anymore since the actual game will be out!

This has a lot of merit. I'm in the beta and I sort of wish I wasn't. Some of the majesty has been ruined for me; I won't be experiencing new things with my guild. I'll be the guy they turn to when they need help getting through something. I sorta wish that I could learn all about those cool things with them on launch day ...

... but I ain't tradin' in my beta FOR NUTHIN'.
