I'll play Softcore first (To know what happens me, no surprise with something like raikanichu 15lightning in 2sec)
Then Hardcore. However I'll play Hardcore mainly with a friend of mine, we'll play Barbabarian Tank and Wizard "DPS". Basicly he takes hit and I dps from far far far far far away.

Softcore. I plan to play D3 rather casually, so I probably won't want to create a hardcore character and play for a month, only to have to start all over again. It would discourage me from playing it anymore.

  3. #23
Both. I'll definitely play Hardcore, but I'll have friends who don't want to, in all likelihood. Plus, playing Hardcore all the time would probably just stress me out.

  4. #24
Definitely hardcore. It sucks to see your characters die, but surviving the odds is just so much more rewarding when there's more at stake.

  5. #25
Both probably, but hardcore is indeed more fun than softcore.
On hardcore mode you actually care about your character, and I enjoy'd to play carefully, make strategies and really play the game like some other RPG games where you actually die if you die (lol, but I instantly remember when I used to play Baldur's Gate, and you forget to save, then you go Rambo and die, needing to start all over again).

I'll be rolling softcore to start. Just the thought of going in blind with a hardcore toon and loosing it with out any knowledge of the game. No thanks. :P

Hardcore from day 1, hopefully they decide to let us roll HC characters without beating the game on SC first.

Yeah, although rumor suggests we might still have to

So far the devs seem to be sticking to their SC>HC strategy as per D1/2.

Reading this thread under the impression that it's about porn makes it significantly more funny.

Assuming your avatar is about porn also makes that more funny :O). These kinds of comment could only be made by people that never played DII. Are we getting old?

    Haha, same!

    But any-dang-way... <.<

I'll end up doing both though, probably normal first then after a bit make a hardcore character or two to mess around with.

Too many other games lined up to put the time and commitment into hardcore. I'll treat D3 like any single player game in most regards - play it through once or twice, maybe on all difficulty levels if it's really great, then move on to other things.

Also I wonder if there's something wrong with me, since porn didn't even cross my mind when I read the title. I just automatically assumed it was about Diablo, even before I saw what forum the thread was on.

You have to play d3 through all difficulty levels, if you want to make it to the level cap anyway.

Just an assumption of course, but probably not far off.

Was there just the two? I thought they were putting in a few different modes.

I have no idea how much they've changed since D2 days, but if my memory serves me right, in D2 you were nowhere near the level cap even after a full playthrough on all difficulty levels. You'd be around lvl90 and then looking at nine levels of AoE grinding mobs on the hardest mode. And every death meant -10% experience that sets you back several hours, maybe days. I don't know how that was even doable on hardcore.

Anyways the level cap always seemed like a fairly artificial goal. Didn't really give you anything content-wise.

  18. #38
The level cap was an artificial barrier that simply didn't matter to end-game. In games such as WoW you could'nt possibly put level 80's in an 85 raid. In Diablo II this was of no consequence. People could simply join high-end from about lvl 80, 84.

Death is something skilled people prevent. ..how do you say it in English.. luck isn't just with the dumb, it's also with those that build solidly.

I'll pay for both so I'll play both most likely.
