Why do so many women desire to be stick thin considering most men like curves?

So I've always seen perfectly normal women talking about how fat they are, or how much they want to lose weight, or how much they'd like to be as thin as X model. I find it quite strange especially considering that nearly every guy I've ever talked to likes curves. Of course I'm not saying that guys like someone that's overweight, but most guys appreciate a healthy girl with some curves, and something to hold onto. The media and society in general seem to be completely out of touch with the male population.

I mean if I'm standing around with some mates, we're more likely to turn around and give a second glance to the slightly curvy girl with the big gazookas than the stick-thin anorexic/unhealthy looking girl. And this is true for nearly every male I've ever met. I also find it strange that already thin girls go around saying they are fat and want to lose weight. And that this must spur on perfectly normal girls to also think they are fat. Which leads me to my question...

-Why do so many women desire to be stick thin considering the majority of men prefer curves?

    Because of Media

Thats a really good question. I agree with this 100%, and while refraining from saying things I would probably get banned for (possibly for sexual harrassment), I will say that when I picture "being with" a female, none of them are skinny like you described.

Because most of the women portrayed in the media as beautiful are thin, ask a man which celebrity they find most attractive and most will reply with a thin person.

Because of media. Also women telling you straight up "I want to lose weight" when they're perfectly thin is usually a bait for a compliment. Women will be women.

TV. Its that simple. TV eats away your brain faster then any drug you can come up with. . . well maybe not Meth, but comeon, who does meth now-a-days?

It's society in general pushing "being thin" onto women pretty much from the time they are children.
Even young girls in are overly sexualised in our society (Playboy bunny shirts? REALLY?!) - so it's pretty much there from a child.

Just go and look at some magazines - aimed at both men and women. What do you see? Stunning, stick thin women with huge breasts.
Go look at some female actors - look at the female models in advertisements - look at the women strutting down the catwalk - look at the women in pornography.
    They are all stick thin.

If it is obvious they are baiting, i just reply "you look healthy, got some meat on your bones".

They're weak-minded and easily swayed by some nebulous thing called "society".
We will stand above the city, rising high above the streets
From tops of buildings we will look, at all that lies beneath our feet
We will raise our hands above us, cold steel shining in the sun
With these hands that will not bleed, my father's battle will be won!

Although more common in women, I know a lot of guys that over-obsess about their weight too.

And like others have said, it has much to do with the media/society in general.
It is difficult to free fools from the chains they revere.

Was thinking that the other day, as I looked at this (http://acidcow.com/pics/20120410/acid_picdump_67.jpg) (SFW!).

I thought (setting aside the Star Wars stuff, not my bag) "there's a really pretty girl with a great smile who clearly has a sense of humor"...but by "internet" standards she'd be considered at least plump.

I don't know about you but I think she's pretty hot.

Sorry, but I don't find chicks that bench-press or have ripped biceps hot. It's kinda gross to me.

What exactly do you mean by "curves"? Is it shape or bodily fat percentage? You know, it's possible to be fat and still have a flat ass if your gluteus muscles are undeveloped. I'd rather prefer a woman with trained muscles and low body fat, than someone who's curves are composed from lard. And it's hard to be "curvy" if your waist is the same as your hips.

Once again, thin != fit. http://www.leighpeele.com/body-fat-p...nd-percentages
