I hope you haven't forgotten my role in this little story. I'm the leading man. You know what they say about the leading man? He never dies.
If you give in to your impulses in this world, the price is that it changes your personality in the real world. The player and character are one and the same.
Hey...hey guys. I was going through my old posts for shits and giggles last night and I came across this thread. Anyone remember that? Most especially this special post?
Man, that gave me another good laugh and a half.
why isn't this a sticky anymore? I'm used to clicking it at the top of forum and read, but now I need to scroll down and hope it's still on first forum page
Strange =/ Any reason for this?
Info in the OP is outdated, and the OP has long since abandoned upgrading this thread. So the only real use of this thread, is to serve for basic chat of GW2 stuff, which Edge feels doesn't warrant it a sticky any more.
You can always bookmark this thread if you wanna keep up with it.
This thread gets more confusing by the minute.
Even though it isn't stickied it's still usually on the first page so meh... no big loss
I see this come up all the time on all sorts of video game related websites, and I'm always perplexed by why I really don't seem to agree. My logic says gameplay should come first, after all, they're video GAMES, yet when I look at all of the games I've played and the few I've actually completed, it's always:
Aesthetics > Plot > Gameplay
I just can't seem to force myself through a game if it looks bad or bland or the plot is retahded. I'll easily suffer through bad/boring mechanics to see more beautiful art or learn more about its story, though. Guess I'm just weird like that.
Somehow finding this page of the thread more shocking and offensive than the last.
While for me gameplay far outweighs aestethics, and to a smaller (but still pretty large) extent, the story, It's true that all 3 are important.
Aesthetics doesn't mean shiny top-notch graphics though. I can still go back to games like Lufia 2,LTTP, and even carma 1 and enjoy the hell out of them without being annoyed by the outdated graphics.
Monk, I need a monk!!!
Gameplay usually wins for me, then I think its a tie for graphics and story. I can always go back to FF6 and ChronoTrigger and play the hell out of those games. Also can't wait for the BaldursGate re-release, I can't find my 5 cd's the original came on.

My jaw. On the floor.I could NEVER play a game just because of how it looks
I think you can separate plot and game play. There are many games with great mechanics and a shitty story. I guess the two things may overlap a bit but I wouldn't really say they are the same.
There are lots of games with great mechanics that kept me going and a shitty story. Couldn't really say the same for the other way around (Mass Effect 1)

Oh, of course. By aesthetics I meant art style/direction. The Fire Emblem GBA games have some terrible graphics (as evidenced by my signature) but some of my favorite video game aesthetics anywhere. I actually put Shadow Dragon down after the very first fight (Marth and some bandit, I think?) because the battle screen aesthetics were so far gone from the "drawn" look that the GBA games had and looked more like cheap CGs.
Guess I shoulda clarified. By gameplay I meant mechanics and systems (and genre sorta too I guess). VNs are a special exception when it comes to video games because all of the Gameplay = Plot.
May I introduce you to LSD (the game)....I could NEVER play a game just because of how it looks, I could easily play a bad looking game if the gameplay is good.
