    [Megathread] Halo 4

For all future Halo 4 related topic, please post here.

Is anyone else as excited for it as I am? The story will finally be explained further. I remember when Bungie said Halo 3 was going to be the last one released, as far as the story of Master Chief goes. Now it is in the hands of 343 studios, and from the gameplay I have seen from E3 today, it looks far better graphically, and story wise. The forerunner (the orange/red looking guys in the E3 gameplay) enemies look crazy as hell.

Looks like I'm not play MoP this year, going to be busy playing the hell out of H4.

Anyone else freaking excited?! More gameplay to be seen tomorrow!

I believe the red/orange guys were Precursors, not Forerunners.

    There's a difference, I assure you.

I haven't seen any halo 4 gameplay yet, but is it standard halo gameplay?

Been a lifelong Halo fan myself, and when I saw the reveal gameplay today....oh my god. It looked incredible! I know it's just a trailer for now, but I think the Halo franchise is in good hands with 343i and Frankie. Nothing better to ask for than a game being made by fans themselves (besides the fact a lot of them used to be former Bungie employees).

Oh I didn't really know, I just assumed since Cortana mentioned the weapon was forerunner. Thanks for the clarification.

Pretty much, Shield, frag/plasma grenade, the usual stuff. Wouldn't be halo if it was anything else.

Yeah I am not concerned with 343 being the main developer of the franchise now. There are probably a lot of former bungie employees, and besides that 343 worked with Bungie in the past on previous Halo games. And the game does look incredible doesn't it? The graphics from H3 to H4 seems very major. The lighting is what I noticed the most, the lighting is incredible. Even from Reach the graphics looks incredible.

Im concerned, with the shit they have said will be in game its heading down the same route reach did. You get abilities you unlock as you level up. The same no skill rank system that was in reach. If they dont change it, 4 will be as short lived as reach was. I had high hopes for 343 but they got dashed when i saw that shit.

While Halo did change the way games were played online forever, the Halo franchise in my opinion has always been sold more on the story and campaign rather than the Multiplayer. Its safe to say that the rank system has changed, your rank used to be a relative indication of your skill, however, in todays society game companies are more concerned in replayability and addictiveness. If its easier to just unlock new rewards as you rank up, rather than having to earn your rank, then that is what they need to do to keep their customers playing the game. While a lot of players don't like this change, its probably a change that is needed. I think the old skill system drove a lot of players away from playing halo competitively.

Ever since Halo 2 the game has been more about the multiplayer imo, iv never bought the game for its singleplayer, while iv played it and read all the books, the multiplayer is what i live for on halo. And since halo 2 it has been in decline. And i dont think the old skill system did, It just realisticly showed people where they were. Halo 3's system was shit as it was easy to cap out fast and reach is a joke since any idiot can hit the max levels by playing long enough. Halo is a game of skill since both people were originally started out with the same weapons and oppurtunitys the skilled ones knew how to take advatage of the playing field more and won. And thats somthing i miss. I dearly hope the new maps are not as shitacular as reachs. Reach by far has had the worst map design in the history of halo.

If it doesnt have h3 or h2 ranked games I wouldnt even buy it, they screwed me with the odst, then again with reach, Im not buying another lame halo game, reach ruined the franchise for me, if h4 is anything like that i will be upset

One quick thing regarding the H2 ranking and why Bungie probably took a step in a new direction for the H3 ranking system was the massive amount of cheating from about halfway through it's life span. From superbouncing to stand-bying, bridging, and modding - it was bad. And Bungie got overwhelmed. It was nigh impossible to differentiate any Moon's/Halo's from cheaters and legit 50s (if there TRULY ever was any, aside from ranked MLG teams like StK), and just about everyone I knew had an account that was boosted. Was horrible, and the ban to players from XBL barely did anything (there were ways around that within 12 hours of that patch). I'd rather 343i avoid that trainwreck.

But with all that being said, I generally agree with you. I disliked Halo 3, mainly for the god awful Havok engine they added on top of the existing one, and Reach I just couldn't get in to (ranked matches didn't even matter as compared to social). I have faith in 343i, though. I don't know where you read about what all Halo 4 will have, but I still have hope they can learn from Bungie's mistake.

They could have changed that by getting rid of hosts imo. But the super jumps were easy to fix they just never did. I never saw anyone about 40 that was legit. The only way to get remotly legit games past 34 was to have someone bridging host to someone who wasnt cheating eliminating cheaters. So essentially cheating out a cheater. We had to do that to plan clan matchs at all. Never used it to cheat.

Though i dont think the halo 3 ranking system was the right fix. i hit level 45 the third day, and stopped due to my dislike for the level 50 rank symbol. I know people that hit 50 without even trying or being skilled. id much perfer the halo 2 system but with a more refined look. And fyi now they can issue ip bans to xboxs that mod and such, which is wut they should have done before.

I'm sure the story will be interesting enough, but I'm concerned about the multiplayer. Reach was terrible, and mostly because of all the new things that were introduced. Bloom, armor abilities, a lack of good maps, and having no ranking system were the biggest problems in particular. The engine was fine. Anniversary Classic is really good, because it's the purest form of Halo there's been since the original. The netcode is also really good, the best of the series, especially online, so that's not the problem. But outside of Anniversary Classic, Reach is just a terrible game compared to the other Halo's.

And now here this game is coming out, and it's already been confirmed to have armor abilities, full time sprint separate from those abilities, bloom, bullet spread, no true ranking system, and now perks and unlockables that completely take away the core principle of Halo, which is that all players start the game equal. Now that's no longer the case, as if all the crap in Reach wasn't ridiculous enough. The magic of the original Halo, and even the second and third games to a lesser degree, was the simplicity. Reach destroyed that, and it suffered for it. It seems these new developers didn't learn the lesson of Bungie's mistake.

I'm sure I'll buy the game, and I'm fairly confident that it'll probably be better than Reach is outside the Anniversary playlist, but I don't have a very optimistic outlook.

I AM MORE EXCITED FOR HALO 4 THAN ANYONE ELSE. with that said, foreal yes I am excited. Halo ODST and Halo Reach were the stepchild's of the series, and it's sad that bungie had to put out two relatively shitty games before handing it off, ending on a low note. I am very excited for 343, along with some of the original talent of halo 1 to return this franchise TO GLORY.

long live halo and long live master chief, the most badass hero in any fps ever. halo has it all, unique non cod/counterstrike/enter shitty fps here gameplay/ the best plot of any fps, and the most interesting weapons.

The weekly campaign co-op missions just.../cake pants.

I haven't really paid much attention to halo multiplayer since halo 2 but is 4 player split screen still in the game?

Reading all the rage here, it makes me feel as if I'm the only Halo fan that actually liked Reach. What is it with people nowadays? You must have such sad lives if an entire franchise gets ruined by 1 area of 1 game in a series, that's just stupid. (I actually liked Reach multiplayer, I still play it, split-screen and online).
