    Helping with my shopping list

So I'm assembling a pc to buy after I finish my work during the holidays and I'm wondering if these are good prices for these parts and if this is an optimal build to play all the new games on on high settings.

    109920 COOLERMASTER Haf912 Plus € 79,99
    109608 CORSAIR 8GB (2x4gb) 1600mhz Cmz8gx3m2a1600c9 Zwart € 59,99
    113286 ASUS Hd7850-dc2-2gd5 2GB Gddr5, Clock Rate 900mhz, Memory... € 249,99
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    110067 LITE-ON Dvd±rw S-ATA Zwart 22x Writer Ihas122-18 € 29,99
    108348 WESTERN DIGITAL 1000GB 64MB 7200rpm Wd1002faex Caviar Black € 109,99
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    112857 ASUS P8z77-v Ddr3 Socket 1155 Intel® Z77 € 184,99
    113000 INTEL Core I5 3570k 22nm 4 Cores 4 Threads 3.4 € 3.8ghz 6... € 229,99
    111887 CORSAIR 650w Tx650m Enthusiast Series Cp-9020002-eu € 99,99
    110748 CORSAIR H80 Hydro Series Cpu Cooler € 99,99

How far is an ssd going to help me with performance and is there anything I should swap for something else.
I'd also want to be able to stream at some decent quality like 480 with 30 fps. (:

Looks decent beside the DVD drive. You've picked an external USB DVD drive instead of internal one. Or was that on purpose?

I'd get smaller HDD and a 120GB SSD instead, unless you're planning to use whole 2TB for porn or whatever. SSD will not give direct performance gain in game framerates for example, but everything you do on the computer feels snappier as things load pretty much instantly.

Your computer will not prevent you from streaming decent quality video, but internet connection might.

What's the difference in performance between an IntelliPower rpm hdd and a 7200rpm hdd? I'm guessing the IntelliPower rpm one is cheaper because it's worse?
Also, what's the difference in speed between an 330 series and a 520 series ssd?

I've already added this to my list then:

    110067 LITE-ON Dvd±rw S-ATA Zwart 22x Writer Ihas122-18 € 29,99
    108348 WESTERN DIGITAL 1000GB 64MB 7200rpm Wd1002faex Caviar Black € 109,99

Will update the original post with them.

Some of the prices seem a bit high. Where are you planning to order from?

Any kind of power saving or 'green' HDDs are slow. Because the disc is slower, it's cheaper to manufacture. It's really bad idea to get one for gaming computer as primary storage or boot disc, those are mostly meant for storing terabytes of porn/warez collections, not for daily use.

Sounds like both are Intel's SSDs. If the store you're using has alternatives, Crucial M4 and Samsung 830 discs are much cheaper and offer similar performance and reliability. OCZ Agility & Vertex series have reliability problems.

Normal for EU really, except the RAM is bit overpriced.

    I wouldn't recommend the HAF 912 or the H80.

Personally, the HAF 912 has cheesy aesthetics and poor cable management. The H80 is matched by air coolers for cheaper. For example, The Corsair A70 as in my sig is extremely affordable and performs beautifully.

Those are opinions. I'd suggest a Samsung F3 over a Caviar Black. SSD as a boot/game drive is also a solid choice, for which I recommend a Crucial M4.

I only used that site to compare prices with a country close by. Don't know of any decent Belgian store.
Even comparing prices with Swedish stores every part is 10-20 euro more expensive, and in Sweden we have 25% VAT.

People say it's a decent shop but prices can indeed be quite high and they don't have half the stuff mentioned here already. :P
So if anyone can give a link to something that's safe to order from (don't know if amazon has a belgian site), go ahead!

Yeah but the problem with these belgium shops is that they don't even have that stuff you mention so I'm pretty much limited to what they have unless I find a big store like amazon that ships everywhere. :/

Okay so I used the site nocturnal gave me and the price went down from 1200 to 1000 euro's without an ssd. Hurray! The only difference I made is a seagate 1TB 3,5" 64mb hdd instead of the other one. I think I'm just going to buy an ssd later on when prices go down. When is windows 8 coming out and is it worth waiting for it to buy a version of that since I don't have a 64 bit OS?

Windows 8 is due to be released in October according to the latest predictions from Microsoft.

Rather get Samsung Spinpoint F3 or Western Digital Caviar Black HDD than Seagate. Or Caviar blue/green. It's unlikely that SSD prices will drop significantly, but you get twice the size at the same price next year.

October. Windows 7 Pro can be obtained with student discount at 30€ or in some cases totally free if you have a friend who's eligible for it. You can get Win7 now and upgrade to 8 later, Microsoft already announced they sell upgrade to 8 until end of January for $40.

After upgrading from XP to 7 the only feature I've use the start button for is shutdown. That takes longer to reach in Win8, control panel and other stuff still is in the bottom left corner as always, reachable just as fast as in previous 17 years, if not faster.

i hate having my desktop cluttered with icons for the various programmes i use , hence why i use the start button daily

If you are planning to use Windows 8, you can skip getting Windows 7 now and just run the Consumer Preview of Windows 8 until it is released.

Okay so I'm doing last minute checks for compatibility, cheers if you could help me out one last time.

This is my shopping list (It's a belgian site but it shouldn't be hard knowing what numbers they're talking about) :
    mobo: http://www.komplett.be/komplett/prod...x/details.aspx
    ram: http://www.komplett.be/komplett/prod...0/details.aspx
    cd-drive: http://www.komplett.be/komplett/prod...r/details.aspx
    case: http://www.komplett.be/komplett/prod...u/details.aspx
    psu: http://www.komplett.be/komplett/prod...t/details.aspx
    cpu: http://www.komplett.be/komplett/prod...5/details.aspx
    cpu-cooler: http://www.komplett.be/komplett/prod...m/details.aspx
    hdd: http://www.komplett.be/komplett/prod...b/details.aspx
    ssd: http://www.komplett.be/komplett/prod...m/details.aspx

As for a videocard I was wondering which of these is best:
    http://www.komplett.be/komplett/prod...e/details.aspx
    http://www.komplett.be/komplett/prod...e/details.aspx

I'm guessing the v2 version is better. Wanting to take an 7870 instead of a 7850 because of noticable fps differences between the versions.
So will everything fit in that case?
Could anyone also link to a thread on how to overclock your cpu safely. (since I've never done it before)

    Cheers

    IMO:

Asus has been pretty touch and go motherboard wise as of late. I'd suggest the ASRock Extreme4 instead:

    http://www.komplett.be/komplett/prod...x/details.aspx

That cooler is meh. You can get the Noctua NH-D14 for the same price. It's essentially the best air cooler within reason on the market right now:

    http://www.komplett.be/komplett/prod...m/details.aspx

Take the money you saved on the motherboard swap and get:

To answer your question about the video cards, the V2 model is a triple slot cooler, and the cheaper one is a double slot cooler. Triple slot cooling will obviously provide better cooling to a certain degree. It isn't going to be an incredible difference, but definitely noticeable. It really isn't worth it unless one plans on doing heavy overclocking on the card.
