You know that scene in DBZ Kai where Krillin + Gohan were putting on the new saiyan armor on Namek and they commented about the shoulderpads being a lot more flexible than they looked and not restricting arm movement at all? Was that added in Kai to help explain the shoulderpads, or was it in DBZ as well :P

It is in the manga.
Though I kind of wonder what the point of the armour is anyway. Its been pretty much proven that anyone at around Nappa's level has skin tougher than the armour.

It works out well for the low-level soldiers who have power levels of <2000, and I believe Vegeta, Nappa and Raditz wore it for sentimental reasons to remember their Saiyan heritage.
Goku and Krillin proved the pointlessless of the armor anyway, given a choice they almost always chose the traditional martial-art cloth lol.

well no need to run around naked
I guess the armor is more for style, but it likly helps a bit especially for the low level soldiers
also its clothing that does not inhibit movement and offers some protection, i say it works

Goku usually is always wearing weighted clothing anyway. That ways tonnes. Maybe that acts like better armor.
