Karma Weapon Exploit Perma Banned Appeals Process

"Today we banned a number of players for exploiting Guild Wars 2. We take our community and the integrity of the game very seriously, and want to be clear that intentionally exploiting the game is unacceptable. The players we banned were certainly intentionally and repeatedly exploiting a bug in the game. We intended to send a very clear message that exploiting the game in this way will not be tolerated, and we believe this message now has been well understood.

We also believe and respect that people make mistakes. This is in fact the first example of a widespread exploit in the game. With this in mind, we are offering the members of our community who exploited the game a second chance to repair the damage that has been done.

Thus, just this once, we will offer to convert permanent bans to 72-hour suspensions. Should those involved want to accept this offer of reinstatement, contact us on our support website--support.guildwars.com—and submit a ticket through the "Ask a Question" tab. Please use the subject heading of "Karma Weapons Exploit Appeal", then confirm in the body of your ticket that you will delete any items/currency that you gained from the exploit. You should submit only one ticket. Once you have done so, we will lower your ban to 72 hours, and following your re-activation we will check your account to make sure that you have honored your commitment. If that commitment is not hindered, we will re-terminate the account.

This is a first and final warning. Moving forward, please make sure you that when you see an exploitable part of the game, you report it and do not attempt to benefit from it.

We look forward to seeing you in game,

    Yours Sincerely,

    Chris Whiteside- Lead Producer ArenaNet"

Just getting the info out there for those that did, pretty noble of anet.

Could those who know of this exploit please fill in those of us, such as myself, who doesn't know?

Not that I'd ever try to recreate it or anything, I'm just really curious.

PS: Agreed. Very noble and kind of them.

Still wondering why I play this game.
I'm a Rogue and I also made a spreadsheet for the Order Hall that is updated for BfA.

    Exactly.

I personally find it a little funny how they don't delete the items themselves, they make you do it, and if ya don't, banned again.

The weapons tier vendor was selling weapons for low karma points (for example my tier 1 weapon was 980, didn't realize it when i bought my rifle but after the fix I realized it shouldn't have been that price, instead was 9800), the lowest price i beleive was like 40 KP, so people started "farming him" so they could get shinies.

    Oh man what a bummer.

I really thought Anet was showing legit customers they mean business. Too good to be true I guess.

Instead a slap on the wrist just like anybody else. Disappointing. Guess the sales exec didnt like losing all those potential paying customers.

It was in Anet's update today. Certain Racial weapons for karma were extremely low priced... like one thousandth of what they should have been, so some people decided to buy up thousands of them then sell them to vendors for cash. Seriously if all the weapons for a certain tier are 10k karma, then you find one for 10 karma, do you buy a thousand of them and exploit?

    Bah.

You can't vendor them back, but you can savage them.

Why not? The only thing I risk is getting a slap-on-the-wrist 72 hour ban apparently.

This did indeed send a strong message. Hope there's another nice exploit soon. No reason to play legit apparently.

Even the hackers payed for the game. When A-Net doesn't charge sub fee they need to be very careful when banning people to keep customer good-will, compared to Blizzard who would definately lose money from bannings since sub fee.

I'm sure you do. Enjoy getting banned if you find one.

They already paid...? What "potential paying customers" are you referring to...? Gems? When you can get gems with gold, that sorta defeats the purpose.

A 72 hour ban is nothing. It's like fare dodging. Sure they might slap me with a 40 euro penalty when they catch me. If they catch me.
I will gladly pay those 40 euro out of the 200 bucks I saved fare dodging the entire year.

Actually, if you bought a thousand of them, you got perma-banned. I hear that 72-hour bans were given for between 40 and 100 weapon purchases.

To be fair, "all" of this less than 0.01% customers can have an impact on future customers simply because of how incredibly vocal they are (look at how many of us are talking about it), and will now not be buying expansions.
I hope you haven't forgotten my role in this little story. I'm the leading man. You know what they say about the leading man? He never dies.

If you give in to your impulses in this world, the price is that it changes your personality in the real world. The player and character are one and the same.

That's why they are potential paying customers. They might use gold, they might use their real money. Out of the 3000 perma bans there are guaranteed to be a couple of guys willing to pay some real cash on the game. Better not risk banning the wrong guy.

What they did isn't sending a strong message...they prob won't even check everybody. Looks more like a big bluff to me.

If they really meant to take this serious a week or month bann should have been more in place.

uhm, this exploit doesn't really seem like an exploit :/ this is like if blizzard would have banned everyone who disenchanted the epics you got from the pre-wrath event before they made them un disenchantable

Only because it's the first time in GW2 (maybe GW1?) something like this happened.

absolutely. To be fair, it will probably have a small effect on a small number of potential future exploiters. But for everyone able to read between the lines this is as clear as it can get: They might put up a better front than most, but in the end ANet is just like the rest. you wont get banned unless you try really really hard, they want your money more than anything.

and it's not going to be the last. The future will show how serious they are about enforcing their rules. I predict not very. They will hand out temp bans for minor infractions, I have no doubts. But there wont be real consequences for severe exploiting. Just like all MMOs.

Did you even read the statement from arenanet, that this was people's only and final warning? Or did you kinda skip over that part?
