It's actually fairly straight forward, and not anywhere near as negative as you perceive it to be (leading questions notwithstanding, as I haven't looked at them yet). There is a woefully low amount of peer reviewed articles and journals that are focused on games studies (did not make getting my Masters easy on that front
). Gaming degrees are becoming more welcome in academia which requires these peer reviewed articles and journals for validity. As such, more people have to put out surveys specific to their cause ([Gaming] + [Topic]) since they have little to pull from otherwise.
In short, it's a growing pain of becoming accepted in academia. If it bothers you, don't participate?
