Violent video games, like FPS and other gory games de-sensitize the brain to violence. This in turn, can make people that already have a genetic disposition to sociopathic behaviors more likely to expound on the further de-sensitization. Now the vast majority of people it will have no affect, however it does subconsciously change our behavior towards violence and death, which could have unrealized repercussions to society at large.

Did you know back in the time of Plato so called "experts" said that reading was bad for you. Their argument was that if everything was contained in book form you'd no longer be forced to exercise your long term memory, thus becoming significantly less intelligent. Some things never change. ^_^ "TV will rot your brain!" "Books will rot your brain!"

I guess that explains it. Despite my anitisocial behavior I hate FPS therefore I am not violent. My dream has always been to be a knight of justice that's why I wind up playing a paladin or a lawful/good warrior in most games. Lol

If anything, a lot of stupid people owe their continued existence to violent video games. The victims of that stupidity play video games and maim a few digital pixels instead of utterly destroying those stupid people in real life.

To say 'No, none what so ever' is rather narrow minded. For instance who hasn't completely raged over a game at some point? This could push someone already vulnerable over the edge but so could a lot of things. So to answer the topic question; yes, but no so more than other related factors.

In a similar way that I've seen a study (which I won't go looking for at the moment) showing the correlation between the internet and online pornography and the reduction in incidences of sexual assault, rape, and pedophilia. They get their outlet in other places.

No. I can't stand it when parents blame movies or video games on their child's violent behavior. The only thing that you could possibly blame is your own shitty parenting. I've played violent games since I was a kid and I've never had any kind of restrictions on what movies or TV shows I watched. BUT, my parents taught me very early on that hurting other people was wrong, and I've never harmed anyone. Whereas my cousins have had almost no parenting at all, and they're awful in school and get suspended all the time for fighting.

If they're so unstable that a game is going to push them over the edge, I think that they probably have some psychological issues that they need to sort out. Again, you can't really blame the game itself in that situation. A normal person doesn't behave that way.

Yes, it does to some extend. The effect is very minimal though, and usually gets ignored because there's so much other violence in todays society.

I think some people are more susceptible for it (and violence in other forms of media for that matter). But I think most people have the sense that what they do on TV can never happen in real life.

So 99,9999% of the cases there is no problem but in a few it is. However, that does not mean that we should ban these forms of media but make sure that a person like that is spotted soon enough and gets proper care.

Crazy people triggers violence. Gaming dosen't even inn the slighest encourage anything.

The weak mind of some people cant be helped.

No different to books, TV or movies.

unstable people trigger violence, not video games

it's like guns, guns dont kill people, people kill people - if we didn't have guns, people would still get stabbed, beaten, molested etc.

if we didn't have video games, people would still get violent, but over things like sports instead.

people are violent by nature, we've been killing each other for centuries, video games could never change that, they just give the media something else to blame instead of the lack of individual responsibility

    No.

    Violent people, trigger Violence.

People who blame movies or video games must think that over 100 years ago, violence was unheard off.

There has been, and most likely always will be violence.

I've played video games for as long as I remember, horror films have been my favourite kind of film since I was 10. Guess what, I'm not violent at all, I don't even like people killing spiders, and I bloody hate spiders!

If you are influenced by video games to act violently, then you would react violently to many other things as well. Stop looking for excuses, some people are just messed up.

If you ask me, they help people release the steam they have so they don't do it in real life. I swear like hell when gaming, but never when I'm not.

I guess they can if they become too embedded in cultures. I didn't think that was the case in the late 90s/00's when all these stupid scare-stories started spreading, but video games are much more widely consumed these days, and a lot of the mainstream titles are formulaic shooters for example. But with lots of other factors at play, I wouldn't single out video games as the sole cause.
