PvP Curiousity here: Pro soloer or team player?

I play WoW and mostly am a PvE kind of person, but whenever I reach the -4 and -9 level brackets I LOVE to PvP in the battlegrounds (no matter how many times I might lose). Even max level, I'll do it when I'm bored (I at least get a separate set for PvP gear, but still could work on my talents and reaction times).

It's fun, and I can tolerate negative attitudes pretty well. Sometimes I wish I could kill more people in 1v1 fights than I currently can. Since I can't, I usually resort to calling out incs, sticking tight with groups, escorting flag carriers, defending bases, and just trying to help people out of a pinch (even if it means I'm just gonna die in the next 5 seconds...I always pray I've at least bought enough time for an FC to get as far away as possible to safety). Personally, I think both kinds of players are at least helpful, if not necessary in a triumphant battleground: Admit it, some players REALLY know there stuff and it's nice to have a death machine basically on your side (they also make me feel I'm WAY out of my league when I PvP XD). On the other hand, I've found that even teams with lower skilled players can at least hold their own in a formidable fight and even win with some teamwork (and these, I usually have the most fun in).

So, couple of questions I guess:

    1) Are YOU a pro soloer (can kill anyone that comes across your path) or more of a teamwork kind of person?

    2) Do you think a battleground is gonna go over better if the majority or your team are pro soloers or team players?

    3) Is it rare to find a person that's BOTH a team player and a pro soloer? (I ask this because sometimes I get the feeling pro soloers are a lot more focused on their own attacks, buffs, debuffs, and basically whatever is on their screen rather than on the battleground map as a whole or the chatbox. It just always felt like to me that these kinds of players put a LOT of focus in what THEY'RE doing, which I don't really mind.)- For this one, I suppose I should specify this to RANDOMS (not premades)

So what do you guys think? I'm mostly talking about random battlegrounds here, but I'd also welcome comparisons to arena, premades, and even world PvP (I'm sure they all differ slightly in one way or another)

On your second question: I think there needs to be a mixture, something like 15% pro-soloers (as you call them) and 35% team players in random battlegrounds.

Take WSG for instance. I've seen so many battles where 2 sometimes even 3 great pro-soloers that couldn't save their team against a relatively humble enemy. But 1-2 prosoloers with 3-4 people who stay focused on objectives, heal others and provide support can utterly destroy teams with 5 pro-soloers that top the dps-healing charts.

That's just me though. Take it with a grain of salt.

The only BGs in which one man can change the outcome is :

    AV
ninja re-capping a tower at the begining of a new EXP will cockblock a team.
Pro/lucky fearing/Death grip the tank out of the generals room causing a reset.

    WG
Portal teleporting flag carrying lock. You will never catch them.

However both of these are easily countered with teamwork.
IMO BGs are all about teamwork, the team that works together wins together.

I think solo players do very well in WSG and TP. Team players do very well in AB and IoC. The rest take a kind of mixture between the two.

I'm a mixture of great soloer and teamplayer. I generally want to keep my eyes on objectives, but when it comes to it I'll gladly solo a person if I'm able to (no healers or only one healer).

I think the best BG would be one consisting of teamplayers. If you (I know, this might be against the rules... but it's JUST an example) do BGs on this particular private server, you'll most likely meet teamplayers because that server primarily focuses on arenas and balanced PVP. You'll generally be off-healed by hybrids and saved by others. Can't say the same for cata/mop BG players :P

Cool, so so far it sounds like people appreciate more teamwork in a bg while still acknowledging that those soloers could be the ones to say the day in a pinch Thanks

I always figured that I should focus first and foremost on teamwork, then hopefully the reaction times and awareness in fighting 1v1 will gradually become better for me as I do more bgs. I see all these tutorials for specific classes in PvP on youtube, but it seems too much for me to wrap my brain around (PvE is easier because it's much more static and you don't have to adjust to unpredictable attack patterns like in PvP). I'll keep up with my teamwork skills then and just let the rest come naturally I suppose.

    1) On my hunter, I always look for a 1v1 or a 1v2. I hate playing with another friendly near me, I like to just flat out beat the advantaged team. But on my DK, I prefer groups of 5-7 against 5-7.
    2) Team players
    3) Eh, it's rare to find someone that even knows what they're doing in randoms.

Also, the fact that you stay in groups and packs - it pisses off the soloers. A lot.

LOL, yeah I do notice soloers tend to look for loners or group stragglers in bgs (which also annoys that stragglers XD)

But this is kind of why I asked the question: I don't really know if a lot of people think of PvP as something you should master on your own for the sake of having awesome 1v1 or 1v2 fights in field, or as a place to learn cooperation and strength in numbers. It's nice when you find yourself able to kill a ton of people in 1v1 combat, and I think think makes you feel the most accomplished and powerful. Working in groups though (especially if you can't PvP well) seems to increase survivability and winning % though.

I wonder how many people go into a random bg and are anticipating and/or hoping for some nice 1v1 or 1v2 fights with a lot of killing blows vs. people going in looking for a tactical game with a plan and teamwork...
