Graphical Anomalies - possible GPU issues?

    Greetings,

Over the weekend I put a new PC together. Everything was fine until Wednesday afternoon, when I began seeing some video hardware issues.

An example of one is here:

    Source
    Windows

    Summary
    Video hardware error

    Date
    ‎12/‎5/‎2012 4:08 PM

    Status
    Not reported

    Description
A problem with your video hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly.

    Problem signature
    Problem Event Name: LiveKernelEvent
    OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
    Locale ID: 1033

Files that help describe the problem
    WD-20121205-1608.dmp
    sysdata.xml
    WERInternalMetadata.xml

    Extra information about the problem
    BCCode: 117
    BCP1: FFFFFA80071984E0
    BCP2: FFFFF8800424DDB8
    BCP3: 0000000000000000
    BCP4: 0000000000000000
    OS Version: 6_1_7601
    Service Pack: 1_0
    Product: 768_1
I had examined the video card and noticed that one of the two PCI-E power connectors was a little loose - I rectified that, and stopped receiving the error - I figured we were all good.

Well, later that night, I began to notice some graphical issues when playing WoW - some flashing vertical lines (almost like I could see the monitor refreshing), and also some rigid black lines would briefly flash on the screen - which leads me to think I may have damaged the video card while fixing the power connector, and if there was any way to be sure.

I'll drop a DXdiag in a pastebin in the (slim) hopes that this may not be hardware related, but I was wondering if there is anything else I can do before I replace it and wait 2-3 weeks.

Also, yes, I'm aware I'm running Catalyst 12.8 right now - I rolled back the drivers from 12.10 to 12.8 in a futile attempt to see if that would solve anything and just haven't went back yet.

    Thanks so much.

0x117 just means it just recovered the driver. It just means between the gpu & driver it became unresponsive so you basically have software issues. Did you ever have 0x116 bsod?

No, I haven't had any BSODs at all. When those errors happened, it simply locked up for 10 seconds and came back.

Do this. Delete your drivers complety. Reboot.

    Run driverfusion -> http://www.google.be/url?sa=t&rct=j&...nU7hRBn5ShImQg

    Clean amd drivers with that.

    Reinstall.

Just standard procedure. You're having software crashes, not hardware.

I haven't had any crashes in 3 days though - just the black flickering and flashing only when gaming. I'll give it a shot tomorrow though.

So, after wiping the drivers with Driver Fusion & reinstalling the 12.10 drivers, I had my first bluescreen within 30 seconds. I don't remember what it was exactly, but I recall Driver IRQL not less or equal.

Not sure what to do at this point.

You sure you didn't pick AMD chipset instead of display?

    Blah.

After about 3 weeks of no problems, things are starting to happen again.

I got a bluescreen last night:

And then more video hardware issues:

No idea what to do. I wiped drivers, re-seated the video card, checked everything else.
