    Blacksmithing useless for Holy Paladin?

Seeing that my new Pally uses mail/plate/swords/shields/maces I decided that it would be a good idea to go with Blacksmithing so that I can make some useful items to help me level up.

For some reason none of them are offering me intellect. Why is this? Why would they not put some items in the game that would be useful to Holy Paladins in their armor class from that profession since it's the only one that make them? Should I get Leatherworking until I get my Plate specialization then switch? That doesn't make much sense, why should I have to level 2 professions twice?

To be honest leveling a character is so fast these days that leveling a profession at the same rate is really hard.

That doesn't matter, I'm level 18 and want to start healing dungeons, but have no intellect except for a jc ring that I made with an alt.

And it doesn't answer the question, why would Blizzard create a class that uses mail/plate intellect gear, create a profession where you craft mail/plate gear, and not include any intellect on the mail/plate gear in that profession. What gives?

vanilla wow (lvl 1-60) was known for containing very few mail/plate int/spirit gear. ones you get too the higher levels they show up more often (especially in redone zones/quests/dungeons). but they wont be a very common find till you hit outland (58-70).

Edit: i would suggest using cloth/leather int gear till you finally find better mail/plate stuff.

get cloth stuff, it honestly doesn't matter until higher levels what armor you're wearing.

Also, it's very hard to start a brand new paladin, unless you have boa's, and start healing with it. Just take cloth rewards for healing, it don't matter =)

I enjoy being a blacksmith for my holy paladin. But it is lately easier to level profession with you are at higher level because, we level too fast through content. You find so much cloth/leather/mail all the way till lvl 40, then you have plate to fill in. Remember, at lvl 18, you basicly are allowed to need on what ever you want to increase your healing.

Your professions should be like BS/JC/Ench - Think those are the best for it, no? (Don't bind me on it though).

Don't worry about professions till 85 *nods* Be ready with mining for MoP and such. Equipment for levels below as paladin as relatively easy. MoP brings higher prices, but alot of pieces since the NPC. When you feel comfortable with time and materials for levelling blacksmithing, do so.

You will be able to craft intellect gear eventually, but it's pointless anyway. There's nothing you can craft with BS at max level that you can't just buy off the AH. When choosing a profession go for either what makes you the most money, or what gives you the best bonus at max level.

When you are leveling it really doesn't matter if you use cloth/leather/mail/plate even after you get the "armor prof bonus". And when you get to level 80+ there will be craftable gear for your holy paladin.

Despite paladins being forced into healing during classic wow, there is no craftable healing armor (really) until you reach outland (300). Even then, it's a bit scarce until you get to northrend crafting (350). It's the same, really, with leatherworking. Most of the craftable armor is agility, with int armor being rare world drop recipes.

I find it rather dumb, but that's just me. Like the others said, grab some cloth/leather int gear (as there are some int leather), and just keep that until you reach outland.

Ok I just didn't want to get into a group and get kicked and/or yelled at for "Pally in cloth lol fail noob!" or something, but I'd get it anyway if I were in Strength/Agi mail. Lose-lose.

Yeah just use cloth stuff. For what it's worth, once you get past 70 onto max BS is the best possible profession for you.

You get the ability to wear plate at level 40 and then 'Plate Specialization' at 50. Specialization means that you get a straight 5% intellect bonus for wearing all plate. At that time, post 50, it is a HPS decrease to not wear all plate. They start to show up more and more after 50 anyway, and by the time you hit outlands you should be in full plate.

Pre-50, you can mix and match between armor types. It doesn't make too much of a difference.

    Plate Specialization Passive
    Requires Paladin (Holy)
    Requires level 50
    Requires Plate Armor
Increases your Intellect by 5% while wearing only Plate armor.

It's a much bigger hps loss to be wearing much lower ilvl gear because you can't find upgrades or have empty slots. Go with whatever has int on it.

I'm currently wearing some leather, cloth, and even a mail chest with int I got from a quest reward and an int shield I got from another quest. I've decided just to skip dungeons and level by questing until I can get appropriate gear, which is fine because I'm a lore freak and still have stuff I haven't done yet in a few zones.

As has been pointed out, it was actually expected back in the day (and honestly, even today) to pick up caster pieces that are leather, cloth, and mail, in addition to the rare plate piece. This was mostly how dungeons were healed back in vanilla (hell, often by a mostly ret specced pally with only a few points in holy, wearing int / sp gear).

This is why to this day, the "plate specialization" doesn't happen until I think level 50- that's the bonus all high level characters have for wearing appropriate gear.

^ all of the above, and it's actually one of the best professions for endgame healers due to being able to socket two +320 spirit gems.

Until level 50 or something you don't get armor specialisation (5% more int), so it doesn't matter whether you wear cloth, leather, mail, or plate.

Two gem slots are good for any class!

On the bright side, BS is the #1 PvP profession because it's the only one that gives you PvP Power/Resil (which are nearly double the value of int gems).

Both of these, and don't worry about sub-90 gear. Literally, I just tossed on some heirlooms (mail/cloth/w.e., you don't get to even wear plate until 40 anyway, and plate spec only at 50), and then just equipped what I got from questing/dungeons.

By the time you get to the point where the 5% plate spec. even matters whatsoever (level 80+) you should easily get the plate pieces from questing away.
